  • The first Korean infrared space telescope MIRIS (Milti-purpose InfraRed Imaging System) was successfully launched in November 2013, as the main payload of Korean STSAT-3 (Science and Technology Satellite-3). After initial on-orbit operation for verification, the observations have been made with MIRIS for the fluctuation of Cosmic Infrared Background and the Galactic Plane survey. For the study of near-infrared background, MIRIS completed the survey of large areas (> $10^{\circ}{\times}10^{\circ}$ around the pole regions: the north ecliptic pole (NEP), the north and south Galactic poles (NGP, SGP). We are also continuously and frequently monitoring the NEP region for the instrumental calibration and the zodiacal light study. One the other hand, the Paschen-${\alpha}$ Galactic plane survey has been carried out using two narrow-band filters (at $1.88{\mu}m$ and $1.84+1.92{\mu}m$) of MIRIS. This survey is planning to cover the whole Galactic plane with the latitude of ${\pm}3^{\circ}$, and the longitude regions of $+280^{\circ}<l<360^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}<l<+210^{\circ}$ have been completed (~ 80%) by February 2015. The data are still under the stage of reduction and analysis, and we present some preliminary results.

  • A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), which can be used in studies investigating relationship between diet and chronic diseases in a rural area of Korea, was developed and validated. Food items were selected from two sources ; (1) preliminary survey in a rural area by 24-hour recalls and (2) National Nutritional Survey of 1991. Sixty-five food items were finally selected based on the frequency of consumption and contributions to major nutrient intakes. Portion size of each food item was determined considering the mean and median values of the amounts consumed by subjects in the preliminary survey. Frequency of consumption was asked in nine categories ranging from 'more than three times a day' to 'almost never'. The newly developed FFQ was administered in 24-hour recalls conducted in different seasons in the same area after the administration of FFQ. Sixty-one subjects completed both FFQ and all three repeated 24-hour recalls. The results of the two different survey methods showed that mean daily intake levels of energy, carbohydrate, vitamin A and vitamin C were significantly higher in FFQ compared to 24-hour recalls(p<0.05). Intake levels of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate and iron were significantly correlated by Pearson's correlation coefficients(p0.05). Ranking on nutrient intake of the subjects by two method were significantly correlated(Spearman's correlation coefficients) in all above nutrients plus Ca and vitamin A. Percentage of subjects in the lowest or in the highest quintile by 24-hour recalls who belong to the nearest two categories by FFQ ranged from 46% to 83%, while the percentage falling into the opposite category were below 10% in most of the nutrients. The proportion of subjects classfied into the same quintiles by the two methods were between 23% and 33%, with an average of 28%. From the results, FFQ developed in this study seems to be useful in evaluating nutrient intake pattern of 1 year in adults living in rural area of Kyonggi province.

  • The aim of this study is to understand the wedding planners' general perceptions on Hanbok as a ceremonial dress in wedding ceremonies. Moreover, the study explores the aesthetic understanding of wedding planners on Hanbok which both influences their choice of recommendation and purchasing decisions. In the process of organizing the structure of weddings for clients, planners have naturally acquired the position of being able to influence the sales of the Hanbok industry. Moreover, brides-to-be are heavily dependant on wedding planners in sketching the outlines of their whole wedding. Therefore, in order to analyze the opinions of both subjects, a research survey was launched which involved three hundred participants from two groups: first, wedding planners who were free lancers working in the Chungdam District, and second, wedding planners who were working for wedding consulting firms. The survey method was based on one precedent study, in which a preliminary survey was conducted by interviewing companies in the Hanbok industry and wedding consulting firms, and an additional survey in the form of questionnaires. The STATA 11.0 program was used for analyzing the recruited data for frequency analysis and cross-tabulations analysis on career. The conclusion of this research may be used as substantial preliminary data in prospering the Hanbok industry, enhance and newly shape its marketing strategies and the conclusion is as follows. 1. Wedding planners have a more profound understanding on Hanbok and prioritize the significance of formative constituents in the order of color, material, style, size, and decoration. 2. The prospects of promoting the image of Hanbok through wedding planners is promising. According to surveys, this goes to show that the persuasion of wedding planners have brought a positive effect on choice of Hanbok and as wedding planners become more specialized, their involvement in preparing Hanbok with brides is increasing. 3. Wedding planners believed that the main reasons why future brides do not select Hanbok as a ceremony dress are that the cost is too high relative to practicality and that there are not enough opportunities to wear them.

  • This study intend to induce citizen's voluntary preliminary disaster prevention activity to reduce damage of typhoon that occurs every year. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to develop Typhoon information contents. The number of samples used in the survey was set to 500 people, and citizens living in Jeju, Busan, and Jeonlanam-do were surveyed for areas with high typhoon disasters in order to develop practical and efficient information. The survey consisted of perception about natural disaster, how to get and use weather information, satisfaction with typhoon information and requirements. The general public perceived the typhoon as the first natural disaster. As a result of responding to the method of obtaining and utilizing weather information, the frequency of collecting weather information at the time of issuance of typhoon special report is higher than usual. The purpose of using weather information is clear and the response rate is high for the purpose of disaster prevention. The medium mainly collecting weather information is Internet portal site and mobile phone besides television. The current satisfaction with typhoon weather information is 34.8%, in addition to the accuracy of prediction, it is necessary to improve the information (that is content) provided. Specific responses to the content were investigated not only for single meteorological factors, but also for possible damage and potential countermeasures in the event of a disaster such as a typhoon. As can be seen from the above results, people are requested to provide information that can be used to detect and cope with disasters. The development of new content using easy accessible media will contribute to the reduction of damages caused by the typhoon that will occur in the future, and also to the disaster prevention activity.

  • We present the preliminary results of the pilot observations for the fringe survey at 43 GHz with the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry (VERA). The main goals of the fringe survey are to establish a full list of phase calibrators for the VERA dual-beam astrometric observations, and for the KVN multi-frequency phase referencing observations. We performed two 24 hours experiments as a pilot observation to test the feasibility of the fringe survey. Each source from a list of 220 sources has been observed in one scan for 2 minutes. 67 sources were detected with the SNR threshold of 3.5. The correlated flux densities of the detected sources are presented in four ranges of projected baseline lengths.

  • This paper reports the Survey results from a field monitoring study of office occupancy densities. The field measurement of a office in Yongin was carried out from 19 September to 30 September 2011. The survey has an aim to reveal the building energy consumption relationship between occupancy densities of a realistic office and the previous studies. The results showed that hourly occupied density of the previous studies is more higher than a field survey. we investigated the effects of difference occupancy densities on annual heating and cooling energy consumption using EnergyPlus. Heating and cooling consumption was raised because of the increased occupancy density. therefore, accurately measure the occupnacy schedule is important in order to reduce excessive building energy consumption, and is an significant element to be considered in the energy simulation.

  • In this paper we survey on the geometric development in the history of Joseon mathematics. We have relatively many research papers on the history of equations in Joseon but the history of geometry is limited to that of trigonometry (gugosul). We survey on the results on the whole geometry including the introduction of western geometry in Joseon. Joseon mathematics developed differently during several different periods. We investigate how geometric theories developed during those periods and the meaning behind them. We do not claim that our survey is anywhere close to a complete one. This is rather a preliminary attempt to collect research results to plan our research following those of our predecessors.
