  • The bandgap characteristics of semiconductor materials are an important factor when utilizing semiconductor materials for various applications. In this study, based on data provided by AFLOW (Automatic-FLOW for Materials Discovery), the bandgap of a semiconductor material was predicted using only the material's compositional features. The compositional features were generated using the python module of 'Pymatgen' and 'Matminer'. Pearson's correlation coefficients (PCC) between the compositional features were calculated and those with a correlation coefficient value larger than 0.95 were removed in order to avoid overfitting. The bandgap prediction performance was compared using the metrics of R2 score and root-mean-squared error. By predicting the bandgap with randomforest and xgboost as representatives of the ensemble algorithm, it was found that xgboost gave better results after cross-validation and hyper-parameter tuning. To investigate the effect of compositional feature selection on the bandgap prediction of the machine learning model, the prediction performance was studied according to the number of features based on feature importance methods. It was found that there were no significant changes in prediction performance beyond the appropriate feature. Furthermore, artificial neural networks were employed to compare the prediction performance by adjusting the number of features guided by the PCC values, resulting in the best R2 score of 0.811. By comparing and analyzing the bandgap distribution and prediction performance according to the material group containing specific elements (F, N, Yb, Eu, Zn, B, Si, Ge, Fe Al), various information for material design was obtained.

  • This paper describes a novel Context-awareness Markov Chain Prediction (CMCP) algorithm based on movement prediction using Markov chain in Delay Tolerant Network (DTN). The existing prediction models require additional information such as a node's schedule and delivery predictability. However, network reliability is lowered when additional information is unknown. To solve this problem, we propose a CMCP model based on node behaviour movement that can predict the mobility without requiring additional information such as a node's schedule or connectivity between nodes in periodic interval node behavior. The main contribution of this paper is the definition of approximate speed and direction for prediction scheme. The prediction of node movement forwarding path is made by manipulating the transition probability matrix based on Markov chain models including buffer availability and given interval time. We present simulation results indicating that such a scheme can be beneficial effects that increased the delivery ratio and decreased the transmission delay time of predicting movement path of the node in DTN.

  • Recently an intelligent system is developed for the service what users want not a passive system which just answered user's request. This intelligent system is used for personalized recommendation system and representative techniques are content-based and collaborative filtering. In this study, we propose a prediction system which is based on the techniques of recommendation system using a collaborative filtering and a fuzzy system to solve the collaborative filtering problems. In order to verify the prediction system, we used the data that is user's rating about movies. We predicted the user's rating using this data. The accuracy of this prediction system is determined by computing the RMSE(root mean square error) of the system's prediction against the actual rating about the each movie and is compared with the existing system. Thus, this prediction system can be applied to base technology of recommendation system and also recommendation of multimedia such as music and books.

  • Travel time prediction is an indispensable to many advanced traveler information systems(ATIS) and intelligent transportation systems(ITS). In this paper we propose a method to predict travel time using $Na{\ddot{i}}ve$ Bayesian classification method which has exhibited high accuracy and processing speed when applied to classily large amounts of data. Our proposed prediction algorithm is also scalable to road networks with arbitrary travel routes. For a given route, we consider time-varying average segment velocity to perform more accuracy of travel time prediction. We compare the proposed method with the existing prediction algorithms like link-based prediction algorithm [1] and Micro T* algorithm [2]. It is shown from the performance comparison that the proposed predictor can reduce MARE (mean absolute relative error) significantly, compared with the existing predictors.

  • Flood damage can cause floods or tsunamis, which can result in enormous loss of life and property. In this regard, damage can be reduced by making a quick evacuation decision through flood prediction, and many studies are underway in this field to predict floods using time series data. In this paper, we propose a CNN-based time series prediction model. A CNN-based water level prediction model was implemented using the river level and precipitation, and the performance was confirmed by comparing it with the LSTM and GRU models, which are often used for time series prediction. In addition, by checking the performance difference according to the size of the input data, it was possible to find the points to be supplemented, and it was confirmed that better performance than LSTM and GRU could be obtained. Through this, it is thought that it can be utilized as an initial study for flood prediction.

  • Cloud removal is often required to construct time-series sets of optical images for environmental monitoring. In regression-based cloud removal, the selection of an appropriate regression model and the impact analysis of the input images significantly affect the prediction performance. This study evaluates the potential of Gaussian process (GP) regression for cloud removal and also analyzes the effects of cloud-free optical images and spectral bands on prediction performance. Unlike other machine learning-based regression models, GP regression provides uncertainty information and automatically optimizes hyperparameters. An experiment using Sentinel-2 multi-spectral images was conducted for cloud removal in the two agricultural regions. The prediction performance of GP regression was compared with that of random forest (RF) regression. Various combinations of input images and multi-spectral bands were considered for quantitative evaluations. The experimental results showed that using multi-temporal images with multi-spectral bands as inputs achieved the best prediction accuracy. Highly correlated adjacent multi-spectral bands and temporally correlated multi-temporal images resulted in an improved prediction accuracy. The prediction performance of GP regression was significantly improved in predicting the near-infrared band compared to that of RF regression. Estimating the distribution function of input data in GP regression could reflect the variations in the considered spectral band with a broader range. In particular, GP regression was superior to RF regression for reproducing structural patterns at both sites in terms of structural similarity. In addition, uncertainty information provided by GP regression showed a reasonable similarity to prediction errors for some sub-areas, indicating that uncertainty estimates may be used to measure the prediction result quality. These findings suggest that GP regression could be beneficial for cloud removal and optical image reconstruction. In addition, the impact analysis results of the input images provide guidelines for selecting optimal images for regression-based cloud removal.

  • In this paper, a novel method for the classification of term and preterm birth is proposed based on time-frequency analysis of electrohysterogram (EHG) using multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD). EHG is a promising study for preterm birth prediction, because it is low-cost and accurate compared to other preterm birth prediction methods, such as tocodynamometry (TOCO). Previous studies on preterm birth prediction applied prefilterings based on Fourier analysis of an EHG, followed by feature extraction and classification, even though Fourier analysis is suboptimal to biomedical signals, such as EHG, because of its nonlinearity and nonstationarity. Therefore, the proposed method applies prefiltering based on MEMD instead of Fourier-based prefilters before extracting the sample entropy feature and classifying the term and preterm birth groups. For the evaluation, the Physionet term-preterm EHG database was used where the proposed method and Fourier prefiltering-based method were adopted for comparative study. The result showed that the area under curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was increased by 0.0351 when MEMD was used instead of the Fourier-based prefilter.

  • Based on progressive Type II censored sampling which is an important method to obtain failure data in a lifetime study, we suggest a very general form of Bayesian prediction bounds from two parameters exponentiated Weibull distribution using the proper general prior density. For this, Markov chain Monte Carlo approach is considered and we also provide a simulation study.

  • In this study, the settlement prediction method based on field monitoring data under preloading improvement with ramp loading is developed. Settlement behavior can be predicted with field monitored settlement throughout the entire preloading process including ramp loading followed by constant loading. The developed method is verified by comparing its predicted results with results from physical model tests and field monitoring data.
