  • The use of spreadsheet packages for solving noise control problems has been cited by several authors, eg Saha[1] and Thornton[2]. The effectiveness of using spreadsheet packages compared with the traditional computer programs written in high level languages was demonstrated when applied to relatively simple problems, such as the selection of hearing protectors or the prediction of noise equation which includes logarithmic additions at most represents the physics of the problem. The simplicity of the governing equation together with the requirement to handle a vast amount of data are considered to be the major reasons for noise control engineers to use spreadsheet packages. Although shipboard noise prediction seems to be very complicated, the calculation procedure itself is, in essence, identical especially true for prediction methods based on empirical formulae[3,4], ie the procedure that consists of the three basic elements, ie source, path and receiver. This paper discusses the application of spreadsheet package LOTUS 1-2-3 to shipboard noise prediction problems. A utility program of the package is written using macro functions and is shown to be especially useful for noise control engineers who are unfamiliar with spreadsheet packages. In addition, a new type of empirical formula, to estimate structureborne noise transmission loss, is proposed.

  • For the improvement of environmental comfort in the buildings with the blind control, the objective of this study is to prevent the direct glare caused by the daylight inlet. During the process of solar profile prediction, time are significant factors that may cause error and glare during the blind control. This research proposes and evaluates the correction and control method to minimize prediction error. For the local areas with different longitude and local standard meridian, error occurred in the process of the time conversion from local standard time to apparent solar time. In order to correct error in time conversion, apparent solar time should be recalculated after adjusting the day of year and the equation of time. To solve the problems by the potential time errors, control method is suggested to divide the control sections using the calibrated fitting-curve and this method is verified through simulations. The proposed correction and control method, which considered potential time errors by loop lop leap years, could solve the problems about direct glare caused by daylight inlet on the work-plane according to the prediction errors of solar profile. And also these methods could maximize daylight inlet and solar heat gain, because the blocked area on windows could be minimized.

  • In this paper, a fish-drying control method is proposed, which utilizes prediction of proper change in- weight of material fish based on skilled worker's performance. The function of the proposed system is largely broken down into two procedures: The procedure before drying and the one during drying. The procedure before drying is the determination of necessary drying conditions and the required drying time. Required drying time and proper changes in weight for a specific product are obtained by using fuzzy inference and regression models. The procedure during drying is the prediction of the state of material at the end of drying, or the state of product and regulation of drying conditions to attain the prescribed goal before drying. The prediction of product is obtained by using a set of linear-differential equations obtained by the authors' previous work. Drying conditions are regulated by using fuzzy inference. A good agreement between the results of simulation and experiments is obtained, which implies the usefulness of the present control method.

  • A prediction method of conditional event matching pre-diction (EMP) for a purpose of predicting nonlinear phenomena of insulator pollution was proposed in this paper. The EMP was used if the conditional probability for increase of insulator pollution exceeded a threshold value. A performance of the EMP was strongly related to selection of database of events and a closeness function. By use of the prediction of the insulator pollution based on the conditional EMP, reliable decision making for the washing timing of the polluted insulators was e-valuated based on actual data in Kasatsu substation, Japan.

  • In this paper we study on a method to predict and to demonstrate the reliability of the Korea high speed train control system in quantitative point of view. For the prediction of the reliability in train control system which is composed of electronic parts, Relax Software 7.7 automation tool is employed and MIL-HDBK-217 Handbook that is a standard for the prediction of the failure rate in electronic components is used. Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is predicted based on the failure rate of the subsystems, State Modeling and Markov Modeling method is used to express a reliability function of the train control system composed by hardware redundancy as a function of time. We propose a Reliability Test which is performed on the level of the subsystems and Failure Report, Analysing, Correction action system which use the test operation data to prove the predicted reliability.

  • In this paper, an efficient rate control algorithm based on rate prediction is proposed for maintaining a smooth buffer variation and a small buffer size. The proposed method adjusts the quantization scaling factor by using the predicted bit-rate to meet the target bit budget exactly. Experimental result show that the proposed prediction-based rate control scheme can regulate the bit-rate across scene changes more effectively and achieve better PSNR performance than existing rate control mechanisms such as the MPEG-2 Test Model 5 (TM5) and the Adaptive Scene Analysis (ASA).

  • This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. This servo system uses robust tracking control system based on both Coprime Factorization(CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking control system. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness and disturbance rejection ability The optical disk tracking servo system can detect only the tracking error. So the new and simple input prediction system proposed in this paper estimates the reference input signal from the tracking error. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.
