  • Spin casting is one of useful methods to manufacture metal parts with low mold cost and short delivery time. But the silicon rubber based conventional method has several problems such as poor dimensional accuracy, limitation in casting materials and its dependency on speciality in meld making process. To solve those problems, this paper suggests a steel based mold making method using direct CNC machining and the experimental results shows that the parts from the developed method has better dimensional accuracy and surface roughness than those from the conventional method.

  • As the manufacturing processes of automotive engine piston, gravity die-casting, squeeze casting, hot forging and powder forging process are generally used for the various specifications. As the semi-solid forming(SSF) is compared with conventional casting such as gravity die-casting and squeeze casting for the characteristics of its process, the product without inner defects such as gas porosity and segregation can be obtained and its microstructure is globular grain. In SSF process, the materials are heated up to the temperature between the solvus and liquidus line at which the materials exists in the form of liquid-solid mixture. In this time, Discussion is given about reheating process of row material and results are presented regarding accurate temperature and process variables controlling for right solid fractions.

A study on the squeeze casting of Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg alloy for fuel system parts

  • Aluminum alloy casting is gaining increased acceptance in automotive and electronic industries and especially, squeeze casting is the most efficient method of mass manufacturing of such parts. In this study, the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg(AC4C) alloy fabricated by squeeze casting process for development of fuel system parts (fuel rail) are investigated. The microstructure of squeeze cast specimen was composed of eutectic structure aluminum solid solution and $Mg_2Si$ precipitates. The tensile strength of as-solid solution treatment Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg alloy was 298.5MPa. It was found that Al-7.0Si-0.4Mg alloy had good corrosion resistance in electrochemical polarization test.

  • Magnesium alloys casting are gaining increased acceptance in the automotive and electronic industeries and die casting is the most efficient method of manufacturing such mass produced parts. This study has been investigated the microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-9Al-lZn alloy fabricated by die casting process for development of air bag case. The microstructure of die casted specimen were composed of pro-eutectic magnesium solid solution and $\beta$(Mg17Al12) precipitates. The tensile strength of as-fabricated Mg-9Al-lZn alloy revealed 231.4MPa. It was found that Mg-9Al-lZn alloy have good corrosion resistance in electrochemical polarization test.
