A study on the characteristics of electrochemical deburring in the governor shaft cross hole (거버너샤프트 교차구멍 내경의 전해디버링 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently burr technology is rising in the fields of the precision manufacturing and the high quality machining, deburring has treated as a difficult problem on going to the high efficiency, automation in the FMS. Removal of burr with various shapes, dimensions and properties couldn't be standardized and has depended on manual treatment. Especially, deburring for cross hole inside owing to passing through out perpendicular to a main hole is more difficult, the electrochemical method is proper as its solution at practical aspects. Burr elimination in the cross hole drilling of governor shaft used in the automobile engine so far has been worked by a manual post-processing by a skillful worker, which becomes a factor of productivity-down and cost-up so that improvement of machining process is needed. Therefore, for the high efficiency and automation of internal deburring in the cross hole, development of electrochemical deburring technology is needed. So, the new process in the burr treatment is supposed. In this study, characteristics of electrochemical deburring through experiments were identified and factors such as electrolytic gap and electorlytic fluid contributed to removal burr height were analyzed. Also, deburring efficiency and electrolytic performance for cross hole were examined according to electrolytic current and electrochemical deburring condition corresponding to acquired edge quality was found out.

  • Burrs, created when metals deform plastically, are by-products of most machining processes. The increasing requirements of precision and reliability in manufacturing processes have led to the development of systems for automated deburring. In this paper the motivations and requirements for automated robotic deburring are discussed. Also, the feasibility of automating the deburring process using fuzzy logic controller is investigated. In implementing the fuzzy logic controller, particular attention is paid to the acoustic emission sensing for the characterization and feedback control of the burr removal process. The results of the experiments reveal the rule based control scheme based on fuzzy logics can be a good alternative to traditional control schemes.

  • Burr is an undesirable projection as result of plastic deformation. Burr minimization and effective deburring process are required strongly to reduce the cost of the parts. In doing these efforts, the precise burr measurement must be provided for the efficient process. For this purpose the conoscopic holography sensors are selected before. However, it has been very difficult to measure micro burrs less than $10{\mu}m$ due to their tiny and sharp geometries as well as the effect of ambient vibration during scanning. A new micro burr measurement system using high precision. Conoprobe sensor and XY table can measure the micro burrs which is less than $10{\mu}m$. Experiments were carried out showing that micro burr around $10{\mu}m$ was successfully measured and analyzed.

  • Magnetic abrasive polishing is an advanced deburring process for nonmagnetic materials and micropattern products that have non-machinability characteristics. Despite these advantages, there are some problems with using MAP for deburring. MAP has introduced geometric errors into microgrooves because of an over-cutting force caused by uncontrolled magnetic abrasives in the MAP tool. Thus, in this study, to solve this problem, an EP (electrolyte polishing)-MAP hybrid polishing process was developed for deburring microgrooves in an STS316 material. In addition, an evaluation of EP-MAP for the deburring of microgrooves was carried out by profiling the burrs. The results of the experiment showed geometric errors after the deburring process using MAP. However, in the case of EP-MAP, no geometric error was observed after the process because of the lower material removal rate in EP-MAP.

BURR SIZE MEASUREMENT USING A CAPACITANCE SENSOR

  • This paper involves the "on-line" measurement of burrs using a capacitance sensor. A non-contact capacitance gauging sensor is attached to an ultra precision milling machine which was used as a positioning system The setup is used to measure burr profiles along machined workpiece edges. Experimental procedures and results as well as the basic theoretical principles of the capacitance sensor and specifications of related equipment are presented. The proposed scheme is shown to be accurate easy to setup and with minor modifications readily applicable to automatic deburring processes.processes.

  • In this study, combined micro press and surface finishing process are proposed to fabricate the micro nozzle array on a stainless steel sheet metal. In micro hole punching process the burr occurs inevitably, but the burr must be minimized in order to improve the quality and accuracy of the product. For this reason, subsequent magnetic field-assisted finishing technique is applied to remove the burr which exists around the nozzles for ink-jet printer head and proved to be a feasible for deburring by experiment. The deburring characteristics of sheet metals were investigated changing with polishing time and magnetic abrasive size. After the deburring, the burr size has remarkably reduced and roundness of the hole also has improved.

Precision measuring of burrs on sheet metal using the laser (레이저를 이용한 박판 버의 정밀측정)

  • The sheet metal shearing process is normally used in the precision elements such as semi-conductor components. In precision elements, burrs usually reduce the quality of machined parts and cause interference, jamming and misalignment during assembly procedures and because of their sharpness, they can be safety hazard to personnel. Furthermore, not only burrs are hard to predict and avoid, but also deburring, the process of removing burrs, is time-consuming and costly. In order to get the burr-free parts, therefore, we developed the precise burr measuring system using the laser. The laser burr measuring system consists of the laser probe, the photo detector, the achromatic doublet lens, and the rotary & the X-Y table. In previous reports, we used simple vertical measuring method. But, as we used relatively bigger laser spot diameter and had the limited reflection angle, it was difficult to obtain the precise measuring results. So called, the spot size effect makes the profile of burr measured distorted and the burr height measured smaller. By introducing the novel laser measuring method which employing the achromatic lens system and the tilting mechanism, we could make the spot size smaller and get the appropriate beam direction angle. Through the experiments, the accuracy of the developed system is proved. The burr height measured during the punching process can be used for automatic deburring and in-situ aligning.
