Objectives The purpose of this study was to reveal that Sasang constitution(SC) was associated with hypertension and pre-hypertension and could be a risk factor. Methods We introduced this study to educational personnel in D university in Daejeon, and 275 subjects joined this study. The SC classification was conducted with KS 15 questionnaire. The subjected measured the blood pressure with Jawon medical device automatically after 10 minute rest. The hypertension and pre-hypertension was classified by the guide of the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure. The frequency analysis and T-test was used in general characteristics, and chi-square test was also used between SC and pre-hypertension and hypertension. Logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for pre-hypertension and hypertension. Results The number of Taeeumin(TE), Soeumin(SE), and Soyangin(SY) was 142, 71, and 61 respectively. There was significantly different in systolic and diastolic blood pressure among SC types(p<.001). The distribution of the normal group, pre-hypertension and hypertension group by SC types was significantly different (p<.001). The ORs of TE was significantly increased (ORs 4.039, 95% CI=2.019-8.082 in pre-hypertension and ORs 4.235, 95% CI=1.581-11.348 in hypertension) compared with SE(p<.001), and after adjusting gender and smoking habit, it was still significantly different(p<.001). Conclusions It is possible that SC, especially TE could be a risk factor both pre-hypertension and hypertension.
We analyzed the concentration of serum total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), triglyceride (TG) and the serum lipoprotein electrophoresis fractions in hypertensive patients (hypertension group, n=182). The average concentration of lipids and lipoprotein fractions in the hypertension group was compared to that of the normal group. The average concentrations of serum TC, LDLC and TG in the hypertension group were significantly higher than those of the normal group (3.3%, 11% and 70%, respectively) (P<0.05). But HDLC was nonsignificantly lower (2%) (P<0.05). In the hypertension group, the percentages of patients who had an abnormally high level of total cholesterol, HDLC, LDLC and TG were 12.1%, 8.2%, 24.2% and 44.5%, respectively. The average of ${\beta}$-lipoprotein (27.5%) and pre ${\beta}$-lipoprotein (12.6%) were significantly higher, whereas ${\alpha}$-lipoprotein (15.2%) was significantly lower in the hypertension group than in the normal group (P<0.05). The percentages of patients who had an abnormally high level of very low density lipoprotein (pre ${\beta}$-LP), LDLC (${\beta}$-LP) and chylomicron were 31.3%, 17.0% and 12.6%, respectively. This study suggests that an increasing of total cholesterol, LDLC and TG, pre ${\beta}$-LP, ${\beta}$-LP and chylomicron are associated with a risk factor for hypertension.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Self-foot Reflex Massage (SRM) programme on the physical condition and anxiety level of hypertension workers. The research was designed in the pre and post-test. Sample test was done in five workers with essential hypertension. They were divided in two groups:- Group A and Group B. The Self-foot Reflex Massage (SRM) was applied three times a week for Group A and five times a week for Group B. The SRM was given in 40 minutes each time for 4 weeks from the 1st of January to the 30th of April in 2001. In order to evaluate the effect on SRM. blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were measured as physical parameters and state trait anxiety inventory was used twice each time between before and after the exercise. The collected data was analysed by Mann-Whitney test with SPSS program. The results were as follows: 1. Average age for the subjects were 39.8 (ranged from thirty-two to fifty-three) and average period of hypertension history was 42 months (ranged from twenty to eighty-four). 2. There was no significant difference between two examined groups in blood pressure. But, there was a significant difference in SRM of pre and post-test for two groups. 3. There was no significant difference in blood cholesterol between two groups and between pre and post-test. 4. State trait anxiety showed significant difference between pre and post-test except the results between two groups. This result suggests that SRM is effective on the decrease of systolic and diastolic pressure and the relief of state trait anxiety except for the blood cholesterol. Therefore, blood cholesterol is needed further evaluation in large subjects and longer period. Further research is regarded as necessary to evaluate and to compare the precise effects of SRM on the foot reflex massage (FRM) in anxiety.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of hypertension-related nursing intervention programs and their effects on systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Methods: Fifteen studies were selected from four databases (Korean studies, Riss4U, RICHIS, and JKAN) published as of 2009. They were analyzed by meta-analysis method. The selected studies contained a control group with pre-test and post-test design, measured blood pressure as a dependent variable, and used a reported statistical value for blood pressure to measure the size of effects. Results: The hypertension-related nursing intervention programs were relatively effective in lowering both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, although they were more efficient to decrease diastolic pressure. Among the hypertension-related intervention programs, complementary and alternative therapies were more effective in lowering blood pressure compared to lifestyle change intervention. Conclusions: To acquire substantial data of intervention effects, and complementary and alternative therapy, subjects in pre-hypertensive stage, and elderly people, better industrial and scholastic research methods need to be developed for future research. Further studies are needed to establish complementary and alternative therapies. Studies with different group of participants and studies using effective research design are in need as well.

Methods : We have administered Antaeeum and applied Saahm Spleen-tonifying acupuncture for 8 weeks and the patient stopped taking steroids she had taken before. Furthermore, we observed edema, fatigue, albuminuria and hypertension. Results : In consequence of administering Antaeeum and applying Saahm Spleen-tonifying acupuncture for 8 weeks, edema and fatigue were improved and albuminuria and hypertension were not changed significantly. However pregnancy was prolonged from 28 weeks to 36 weeks and the patient could give birth successfully. Conclusions : In conclusion, Antaeeum and Saahm Spleen-tonifying acupuncture have effects of prolonging pregnancy in patients with pre-eclampsia.
Objectives : This experiments were performed to determine the effect of OYakSoonGi-San extract on hypertension in spontaneous hypertensive rat and norepinephrine-induced arterial contraction in rabbit. Methods : In order to define the effect of OYakSoonGi-San extract on contracted rabbit carotid arterial strips, transverse strips with intact or damaged endothelium were used for the experiment using organ bath. To analyze the mechanism of OYakSoonGi-San extract-induced relaxation, OYakSoonGi-San extract infused into contracted arterial strips induced by norepinephrine after treatment of indomethacin, $N{\omega}-nitro-L-arginine$, methylene blue or tetraethylammonium chloride. Results : Blood pressure was significantly decreased five days after administration of OYakSoonGi-San extract. The relaxation effect of OYakSoonGi-San extract was dependent on the presence of endothelium, showing that OYakSoonGi-San extract-induced relaxation was not observed in the strips without endothelium. Also OYakSoonGi-San extract-induced relaxation was significantly inhibited in arterial strips which were contracted by high $K^+$. OYakSoonGi-San extract-indeced relaxation was significantly inhibited by the pre-treatment of $N{\omega}-nitro-L-arginine$ or methylene blue, but it was not observed in the strips pre-treated with indomethacin or tetraethylammonium chloride. When additive application of $Ca^{2+}$ in arterial strips which were pre-contracted by norepinephrine in a $Ca^{2+}$-free solution, arterial contraction was increased. But contractile response to $Ca^{2+}$ was attenuated by pre-treatment of OYakSoonGi-San extract. Conclusions : These results demonstrated that OYakSoonGi-San could be applied effectively to hypertension and may inhibit agonist-induced contraction through an decrease influx of extra-cellular $Ca^{2+}$ by the formation of nitric oxide in the vascular endothelial cells.
Background : Little work has been carried out regarding quality assessment research in a primary care setting, comparing with that of hospitals. This study aims to evaluate the process of diagnosis and management of hypertension by public health doctors on the basis of pre-established clinical guideline, and to identify several modifying factors associated with them. Methods : Hypertension was selected as the target disease, because it is a chronic disease which is of great public health importance. Self-administered questionnaires were mailed to public health doctors practicing at health centers and health subcenters across the nation. The response rate was 20.9%. The questionnaire included the diagnosis and management process such as measuring blood pressure, history taking, physical examinations, and treatment approches and potentially modifying factors such as level of training, duration of practice as a public health doctor, and education on management of hypertension. Results : Public health doctors pay little attention in measuring BP, hypertension related history taking, performing physical examination and laboratory examination. But they devoted much effort in diagnosing hypertension exactly and giving nonpharmacological treatment. Among various antihypertensive drugs, calcium-channel blockers were the most preferred agent(50.9%). Level of training, duration of practice ad a public health doctor, and education on management of hypertension made no difference on quality of care(p>0.05). Conclusion : These public health doctors showed poor compliance with the pre-established clinical guidelines, which leaves much to be desired in diagnosing and managing hypertensive patients by public health doctors. This study might be able to contribute to develop some strategies, such as educational programs, which would be able to improve the process of care in hypertensives.
In this article, we have improved the prediction of hypertension detection using the feature selection method for the Korean national health data named by the KNHANES database. The study identified a variety of risk factors associated with chronic hypertension. The paper is divided into two modules. The first of these is a data pre-processing step that uses a factor analysis (FA) based feature selection method from the dataset. The next module applies a predictive analysis step to detect and predict hypertension risk prediction. In this study, we compare the mean standard error (MSE), F1-score, and area under the ROC curve (AUC) for each classification model. The test results show that the proposed FIFA-OE-NB algorithm has an MSE, F1-score, and AUC outcomes 0.259, 0.460, and 64.70%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the proposed FIFA-OE method outperforms other models for hypertension risk predictions.

The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of hypertension in Haiti and to describe regional characteristics, and thus to speculate Haitian specific regional risk factors. This is a descriptive and comparative study. Subjects were 145 male/female Haitians, who aged between 30 and 59 and have lived in rural areas, had their hypertension indicators being screened. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. More than four fifth of the subjects (82.8%) showed pre-hypertensive or moderate to severe hypertensive condition. 65.5% of the total had abnormal pulse pressure ($PP{\geq}50$) and 13.8% of the sample showed tachycardia (Heart $Rate{\geq}100$). Female Haitian tended to have higher diastolic blood pressure and faster heart rate than male Haitian. The residents who lived in Part 5-1 area with less accessibility to drinking water tended to have higher systolic and diastolic pressure. Hydration status of Haitians was highly considered as an affecting factor on the distribution of hypertension as evidenced by different level of accessibility to drinking water.
