This is a presentation of the paper published as Kimm et al. 2016, ApJ, 823, 52. We investigate the formation of metal-poor globular clusters (GCs) at the center of two dark matter halos with $Mhalo{\sim}4{\times}107Msun$ at z>10 using cosmological radiation-hydrodynamics simulations. We find that very compact (${\leq}1$ pc) and massive (${\sim}6{\times}105Msun$) clusters form rapidly when pristine gas collapses isothermally with the aid of efficient $Ly{\alpha}$ emission during the transition from molecular-cooling halos to atomic-cooling halos. Because the local free-fall time of dense star-forming gas is very short (${\ll}1Myr$), a large fraction of the collapsed gas is turned into stars before stellar feedback processes blow out the gas and shut down star formation. Although the early stage of star formation is limited to a small region of the central star-forming disk, we find that the disk quickly fragments due to metal enrichment from supernovae. Sub-clusters formed in the fragmented clouds eventually merge with the main cluster at the center. The simulated clusters closely resemble the local GCs in mass and size but show a metallicity spread that is much wider than found in the local GCs. We discuss a role of pre-enrichment by Pop III and II stars as a potential solution to the latter issue. Although not without shortcomings, it is encouraging that a naive blind (not tuned) cosmological simulation presents a possible channel for the formation of at least some massive GCs.
A sorption cooler, which utilizes helium-4 as a working fluid, was previously developed and tested in KAIST. The cooler consists of a sorption pump and a thermosyphon. The developed sorption cooler aims to pre-cool a certain amount of the magnetic refrigerant of an adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator (ADR) from 4.5 K to 2.5 K. To simulate the high heat capacitance of the magnetic refrigerant, liquid helium was utilized not only as a refrigerant for the sorption cooling but also as a thermal capacitor. The previous experiment, however, showed that the lowest temperature of 2.7 K which was slightly higher than the target temperature (2.5 K) was achieved due to the radiation heat leak. This excessive heat leak would not occur when the sorption cooler is completely integrated with the ADR. Thus, based on the experimentally obtained pumping speed, the prediction model for the sorption cooler is developed in this study. The presented model in this paper assumes the sorption cooler is integrated with the ADR and the heat leak is negligible. The model predicts the amount of the liquid helium and the required time for the sorption cooling process. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the performance of the sorption cooler is enhanced by reducing the volume of the thermosiphon. The detailed results and discussions are summarized.
The larger, loftier and more highly strengthened the recent structures become, the greater attention is paid to the problem of thermal crack occurrence associate with hydration heat. As one of methods to solve the problem, a care has been taken to the improvement of construction such as the application of pre-cooling or pipe-cooling, adjustment of concrete block size, concrete placement timing, joint arrangement and so on. But it is expected that a proper selection of cement shall additionally contribute to the control of thermal cracks. In this study, thus, we selected 4 types of cements such as Type V for anti-sulphate, blast furnace cements (slag content of 45% and 65% respectively)and ternary blended low heat cement, and carried out mock-up tests. In every assigned time, temperatures and thermal stresses were measured and calculated from raw data. As a result of measurement, it was found that the magnitude of hydration heat is in order of blast furnace slag cement. Type V and ternary blended low heat cement. Results of thermal stresses were same as the order of temperature. In addition, thermal stresses calculated from the data of strain gauges showed almost similar to those measured from effective stress gauges only when strain values were adjusted properly in accordance with initial time of stress appearance. Theoretical results agreed well with the measured values comparatively, but showed slight differences. It is inferred that these differences shall be reduced if more tests capable of evaluating thermal characteristics of concrete are carried out.

This study focuses on model identification and a 2-DOF PID control algorithm for cooling processes; a pneumatic butterfly-type control valve is used for this purpose. The mathematical model is a transfer function composed of a time delay and a second-order delay system. The control valve is identified as a first-order delay system with a time delay and included in the controlled plant. From the experimental data sets for a demo plant, the model parameters are identified, and the 2-DOF PID control gains are analytically derived by Kitamori's method. We show via a computer simulation and an experimental test that the performance of the proposed 2-DOF PID control system is better than that of a conventional 1-DOF PID control system.

Since the operation period of nuclear power plants has increased, the degradation of buried pipes gradually increases and recently it seems to be one of the emerging issues. Maintenance on buried pipes needs high quality of management system because outer surface of buried pipe contacts the various soils but inner surface reacts with various electrolytes of fluid. In the USA, USNRC and EPRI have tried to manage the degradation of buried pipes. However, there is little knowledge about the inspection procedure, test and manage program in the domestic nuclear power plants. This paper focuses on the development and build-up of real-time monitoring and control system of buried pipes. Pipes to be tested are tape-coated carbon steel pipe for primary component cooling water system, asphalt-coated cast iron pipe for fire protection system, and pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe for sea water cooling system. A control system for cathodic protection was installed on each test pipe which has been monitored and controlled. For the calculation of protection range and optimization, computer simulation was performed using COMSOL Multiphysics (Altsoft co.).
1. Diluted chicken semen can be preserved at 2 to 5$^{\circ}C$ for 24 to 48 hr with resultant fertility of greater than 90% of that of fresh semen. Turkey semen can be preserved at 10 to 15$^{\circ}C$ for 6 to 24 hr and provide economical fertility. 2. Frozen chicken semen has given variable results; a 21 to 93% fertility ranges as compared to 92 to 94% expected with fresh semen. Highest fertility levels obtained with frozen turkey semen intravaginally inseminated have been 61 and 63% using DMSO and glycerol, respectively, as cryoprotectants. 3. The use of glycerol as a cryoprotectant reauires that its concentration in semen be reduced to less than 2% either by dialysis or centrifugation after thawing and before intravaginal insemination if optimal fertility is to be obtained. 4. The temperature at which cryoprotectants are added to semen and the time allowed for equilibration are important for subsequent fertility pre- and post-freezing. 5. The type of container used for packaging the semen, freeze or cooling rates, thaw rates and level of cryoprotectant all interact in affecting cell survival. 6. Plastic freeze straws as a packaging device for semen offers the following advantages: easy to handle, require minimal storage space, offer a wide range of freeze and thaw rates, and insemination can be made directly from them upon thawing. 7. Controlled slow cooling rates of 1 to 8$^{\circ}C$/min have thus far provided the best results for cooling chicken semen throught the transition phase change (liquid to solid) or critical temperature range of +5 to -20 or -35$^{\circ}C$. 8. Highest fertilities have been achieved with frozen chicken semen where a slow thaw rate (2。 to 5$^{\circ}C$) has been used regardless of the freeze rate. 9. To maintain a constant high level of fertility throughout a breeding season with frozen semen, a higher absolute number of spermatozoa must be inseminated (2 to 3 times as many) as compared to fresh semen since a, pp.oximately 50% are destroyed during processing and freezing. 10. The quality of semen may vary with season and age of the male. Such changes in sperm quality could be accentuated by storage effects. Thus, the correct number of spermatozoa may very well vary during the course of a breeding period. 11. As to time of insemination, it is best to avoid inseminating chicken hens within 1-2 hr after or 3-5 hr before oviposition; and turkey hens during or 7-10 hr before oviposition. 12. The physiological receptiveness of the oviduct at the time of insemination is a very important biological factor influencing fertility levels throughout the breeding season.
Serpentinite of the Yesan-Gongju-Cheongyang area has been formed by serpentinization of ultramafic rocks. The ultramafic rock might be composed mainly of oilvine with minor pyroxene and amphibole. Olivine has a considerably restricted chemical compositional ranging from Fo90 to Fo93. Fresh serpentinite containing large amount of oilvine is usually massive in occurrence and dark green to black in color. Serpentine minerals occur not only as major mineral of serpentinite, but also as remnants in the talc ore which was formed from serpentinite. XRD study indicates that antigorie is the most abundant serpentine mineral of the serpentinite. Serpentinite consisting of antigorite usually shows non-pseudomorphic texture, whereas that consisting of lizardite shows pseudomorphic texture. Antigorite is found along the margins or fractures of olivine grains resulting in the formation of network of magnetite which was formed at the time of serpentinization. Lizardite, subordinate constituent mineral of serpentinite, frequently shows pseudomorphic mesh-texture after olivine. The chemical differences between antigorite and lizardite/chrysotile are small, so both minerals are not easily discernible with the electron microprobe. Antigorite occuers as elongate blades, flakes, or plates forming interpenetrating texture to obliterate previous textures. SEM study also shows that most serpentine minerals occur in platy or tabular form rather than in asbestiform. Fractures formed after main serpentinization are observed within the pseudomorphic central olivine grain. Careful observation of the serpentine pseudomorphs gives a great deal of data on the pre-serpentinization nature of the serpentine pseudomorphs gives a great deal of data on the pre-serpentinization nature of the ultramafic rocks. It is inferred that the serpentinization took place after the emplacement of ultramafic body into the relatively wet environment ceased and the cooling intrusive body crossed into the stability field of serpentine. It is inferred that the final pervasive serpentinization took place over a long time, by hydrothermal water supplied through the fracture system produced during emplacement of ultramafic rock.

PURPOSE. Temperature increase of $5.5^{\circ}C$ can cause damage or necrosis of the pulp. Increasing temperature can be caused not only by mechanical factors, e.g. grinding, but also by exothermic polymerization reactions of resin materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate influences of the form material on the intrapulpal temperature during the polymerization of different self-curing resin materials for temporary restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 30 provisonal bridges were made of 5 resin materials: Prevision Temp (Pre), Protemp 4 (Pro), Luxatemp Star (Lux), Structure 3 (Str) and an experimental material (Exp). Moulds made of alginate (A) and of silicone (S) and vacuum formed moulds (V) were used to build 10 bridges each on a special experimental setup. The intrapulpal temperatures of three abutment teeth (a canine, a premolar, and a molar,) were measured during the polymerization every second under isothermal conditions. Comparisons of the maximum temperature ($T_{Max}$) and the time until the maximum temperature ($t_{TMax}$) were performed using ANOVA and Tukey Test. RESULTS. Using alginate as the mould material resulted in a cooling effect for every resin material. Using the vacuum formed mould, $T_{Max}$ increased significantly compared to alginate (P<.001) and silicone (P<.001). In groups Lux, Pro, and Pre, $t_{TMax}$ increased when the vacuum formed moulds were used. In groups Exp and Str, there was no influence of the mould material on $t_{TMax}$. CONCLUSION. All of the mould materials are suitable for clinical use if the intraoral application time does not exceed the manufacturer's instructions for the resin materials.
This study examines multiple quality optimization of the injection molding for Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK). It also looks into the dimensional deviation and strength of screws that are reduced and improved for the molding quality, respectively. This study applies the Taguchi method to cut down on the number of experiments and combines grey relational analysis to determine the optimal processing parameters for multiple quality characteristics. The quality characteristics of this experiment are the screws' outer diameter, tensile strength and twisting strength. First, one should determine the processing parameters that may affect the injection molding with the $L_{18}(2^1{\times}3^7)$ orthogonal, including mold temperature, pre-plasticity amount, injection pressure, injection speed, screw speed, packing pressure, packing time and cooling time. Then, the grey relational analysis, whose response table and response graph indicate the optimum processing parameters for multiple quality characteristics, is applied to resolve this drawback. The Taguchi method only takes a single quality characteristic into consideration. Finally, a processing parameter prediction system is established by using the back-propagation neural network. The percentage errors all fall within 2%, between the predicted values and the target values. This reveals that the prediction system established in this study produces excellent results.

In SMA(shape memory alloy), the degradation by fatigue is one of the most important problems to be overcome, when SMA is used for robot-actuator material. The actuator is operated repeatitively for long time and its repeating operation develops the fatigue degradation of SMA. The fatigue degradation changes the transformation temperature and deformation behavior and results in inaccurate operation control of robot. Accordingly, the changing behavior of transformation temperature and deformation which results from repeating operation is to be investigated in advance and the scheme to resolve those problems have to be made for the design of actuator. In this study, the fatigue tests were carried out on SMA specimens prepared to have different condition of aging time and pre-strain with the direct-current heating-cooling method, which was a general method of operation in robot actuators. The behavior of transformation temperature and deformation were examined and analyzed in each specimen and the study was performed to establish the optimistic manufacturing condition of SMA against the fatigue degradation.
