  • For measuring the thermal diffusivity by laser flash method, raw data have to be calibrated using temperature data. We have developed in-process calibration method and polynomial calibration in which thermal diffusivity can be calibrated during measuring, This method is different from existing temperature pre-process calibration method and exponential calibration having various source of error. Using this new calibration method, measurement accuracy was improved about 1∼2% compare to the value by the existing method. We also studied more accurate fitting curve as in Figure 4 was shown the result of measuring output characteristics of IR radiometer with temperature. As illustrated in data, in-process calibration method and polynomial calibration equation is proper than pre-process calibration method and exponential calibration.

  • Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS) is planned to be launched onto Geostationary Earth Orbit in 2008. The meteorological imager (MI) is one of COMS payloads and has 5 spectral channels to monitor meteorological phenomenon around the Korean peninsular intensively and of Asian-side full Earth disk periodically. The MI has on-board radiometric calibration capabilities called 'blackbody calibration' for infrared channels and 'space look' for infrared/visible channels, and radiometric response stability monitoring device called 'albedo monitor' for visible channel. Additionally the MI has on-board function called 'electrical calibration' for the check of imaging path electronics of both infrared and visible channels. The characterization of MI performance is performed to provide the pre-launch radiometric calibration data which will be used for in-orbit radiometric calibration with the on-board calibration outputs. The radiometric calibration of the COMS MI is introduced in the view point of instrument side in terms of in-orbit calibration devices and capabilities as well as the pre-launch calibration activities and expected outputs.

  • Drone mapping systems can be applied to many fields such as disaster damage investigation, environmental monitoring, and construction process monitoring. To integrate individual sensors attached to a drone, it was essential to undergo complicated procedures including time synchronization. Recently, a variety of composite sensors are released which consist of visual sensors and GPS/INS. Composite sensors integrate multi-sensory data internally, and they provide geotagged image files to users. Therefore, to use composite sensors in drone mapping systems, mapping accuracies from composite sensors should be examined. In this study, we analyzed the mapping accuracies of a composite sensor, focusing on the data acquisition area and pre-calibration effect. In the first experiment, we analyzed how mapping accuracy varies with the number of ground control points. When 2 GCPs were used for mapping, the total RMSE has been reduced by 40 cm from more than 1 m to about 60 cm. In the second experiment, we assessed mapping accuracies based on whether pre-calibration is conducted or not. Using a few ground control points showed the pre-calibration does not affect mapping accuracies. The formation of weak geometry of the image sequences has resulted that pre-calibration can be essential to decrease possible mapping errors. In the absence of ground control points, pre-calibration also can improve mapping errors. Based on this study, we expect future drone mapping systems using composite sensors will contribute to streamlining a survey and calibration process depending on the data acquisition circumstances.

  • A Pre-emphasis transmitter for DRAM bus system has achieved 3.2Gbps/pin operation at 1.8V supply voltage with 0.18um CMOS process. The transmitter has 800MHz PLL to generate 4 phase clocks. The 4 phase clocks are used for input clock of PRBS and multiplexing. One tap pre-emphasis is used to reduce inter symbol interference (ISI) caused by channel low pass effects. The analog calibration makes the optimized driver impedance independent with the PVT variation.

  • Wafer Pre-Alignment is to find the center and the orientation of a wafer and to move the wafer to the desired position and orientation. In this paper, an area camera based pre-aligning method is presented that captures 8 wafer images regularly during 360 degrees rotation. From the images, wafer edge positions are extracted and used to estimate the wafer's center and orientation using least squares circle fitting. These data are utilized for the proper alignment of the wafer. For accurate alignments, camera calibration methods using high order polynomials are used for converting pixel coordinates into real-world coordinates. A complete pre-alignment system was constructed using mechanical and optical components and tested. Experimental results show that alignment of wafer center and orientation can be done with the standard deviation of 0.002 mm and 0.028 degree, respectively.

  • In this paper, we presents a Multiple User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) test-bed system for Time Division Duplex (TDD) Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A). Using two parameters, the condition number of the channel matrix and the path gain, the MU-MIMO system could switch pre-coder to maintain target Bit Error Rate (BER) level. This paper also introduces a calibration procedure for compensating error of Radio Frequency (RF) paths of the antennas and RF transceivers. From experimental measurements, dynamic pre-coding scheme could maintain target BER, set to 10-3, with the pre-coder set configured with Zero Forcing (ZF), Tomlinson Harashima Pre-coding (THP), Lattice Reduction (LR). The simplest pre-coder ZF is adopted in stable channel, and when path gain become less than 0.25, LR is adopted. Lastly, when condition number of channel matrix become larger than 7, THP is adopted.

  • The effects of Reynolds number on the non-nulling calibration of a cone-type five-hole probe in low-speed flows have been investigated at the Reynolds numbers of $2.04{\times}10^3,\;4.09{\times}10^3$, and $6.13{\times}10^3$. The calibration is conducted at the pitch and yaw angles in ranges between -35 degrees and 35 degrees with an angle interval of 5 degrees. The result shows that each calibration coefficient, in general, is a function of the pitch and yaw angles, so that the pre-existing calibration data in a nulling mode are not enough in accounting for the full non-nulling calibration characteristics. Due to the interference of the probe stem, the calibration coefficients have more Reynolds number sensitivity at positive pitch angles than at negative ones.

  • The nominal radiometric calibration equation and additional five algorithms are applied in the infrared channel radiometric calibration for the COMS (Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite) MI (Meteorological Imager). The processing end time of the radiometric calibration is directly related with the start time of geometric calibration processing since the geometric calibration processing is followed by that of the radiometric calibration. This paper describes comparison and analysis results for geometric calibration processing using two types of the radiometric calibration results, outputs from only the nominal radiometric calibration equation and outputs from the complete one (the nominal radiometric calibration equation with additional five algorithms), to propose a method with the earlier start time of the geometric calibration processing. Experimental results show that both of radiometric calibration results, from the nominal radiometric calibration equation with a fast processing speed and from the complete one with accurate radiometric values, can be used in the geometric calibration as the appropriate inputs because those processing results satisfied the requirements of geometric calibration processing accuracy. Thus the radiometric calibration results from the nominal radiometric calibration equation can be used to improve geometric calibration processing time.

  • COMS In-Orbit Tests(IOT), performed from July, 2010 to Jan, 2011, were successfully completed and the scientific data from MI and GOCI has been distributed officially from April, 2011. This paper focuses on the geometric calibration system tests conducted during the IOT. The geometric calibration process, which is one of the primary objectives of the IOT is the final step of COMS data pre-processing. The basic principles of the geometric calibration (or image navigation and registration, INR) algorithm for COMS are described and the functional and performance tests of COMS INR system were summarized according to the COMS IOT phases. Final performance testes were carried out using data sets acquired from the real-time COMS data pre-processing system. Geometric calibration accuracy of the COMS data showed excellent quality and met requirement specifications.

  • An efficient calibration algorithm for mobile robot localization using infrared range finder is proposed. A calibration is important to guarantee the performance of other algorithms which use sensor data because it is pre-process. We experimentally found that the infrared range finder PBS-03JN has error characteristics depending on both distance and scan angle. After obtaining 2-D grid error characteristic data on distance and scan angle, we proposed a simple and efficient calibration algorithm with a 2-D piecewise linear function set. The performance of our proposed calibration algorithm is verified by experiments and simulation.
