  • This article presents the design, control, and implementation of a small quad-rotor system under the practical limitation of being cost effective for private use, such as in the cases of control education or hobbies involving radio-controlled systems. Several practical problems associated with implementing a small quad-rotor system had to be taken into account to satisfy this cost constraint. First, the size was reduced to attain better maneuverability. Second, the main control hardware was limited to an 8-bit processor such as an AVR to reduce cost. Third, the algorithms related to the control and sensing tasks were optimized to be within the computational capabilities of the available processor within one sampling time. A small quad-rotor system was ultimately implemented after satisfying all of the above practical limitations. Experimental studies were conducted to confirm the control performance and the operational abilities of the system.

  • In programming classes, there is always a need to efficiently manage programming assignments. This is especially important as class sizes and assignment complexity grows. GitHub and GitHub Classroom makes the management of student assignments much simpler than uploading files and folders to a LMS or shared online drive. Additionally, git and GitHub are industry standard tools, so introducing students these tools in class provides them a good opportunity to start learning about how software is developed in the real-world. This study describes a workflow that uses both GitHub Pages and GitHub Classroom for more efficient classroom and assignment management. The workflow outlined in this study was used in two practical web programming classes in Spring 2023 with 46 third and fourth-year university students. GitHub Pages was used as a classroom website to distribute class announcements, assignments, lecture slides, study guides, and exams. GitHub Classroom was used as a class roster and assignment management platform. The workflow presented in this study is expected to assist other lecturers with the formidable tasks of distributing, collecting, grading, and leaving feedback on multiple students' multi-file programming assignments in practical programming classes.

  • This paper is a study on the practical Systems Engineering Management Plan(SEMP) for the LRT Project. A SEMP shall be developed and applied to define and manage the systems engineering activities during the beginning of LRT Project. This paper is addressed contents and description of the practical systems engineering management plan based on the existing practices about system engineering management plan in LRT Project domain as well as the systems engineering standard as MI-STD 499A, IEEE 1220 etc. In the early stage of a LRT Project, An acquirer should provide a Systems Engineering Plan(SEP), and a contractor should summit a Systems Engineering Management Plan as the SEP in proposal. This addressed the SEMP as an aspect of the system and sub-systems supplier to systematically and effectively accomplish the systems engineering activities in LRT Project generally.

  • Practical Mathematics is one of the career elective subjects in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum for high school. This study examined how well the practical mathematics textbooks reflect the recommendations and visions suggested by related professions and organizations with respect to career preparation, especially for students enrolling in engineering industry-focused specialized high schools. Also, this study looked more closely into the contents of practical mathematics in terms of the consistency among different textbooks and the advancement from middle school contents in similar domains.

  • Positioning system is widely used for many practical applications. This system requires a good controller to achieve high accuracy and fast response with simple and self-adjustable design. In order to satisfy the above requirements, a new practical controller for positioning systems, namely nominal characteristic trajectory following (NCTF) controller with PI compensator, has been proposed. However, the effect of actuator saturation can not be completely compensated for integrator windup when the object parameters vary. This paper presents a method to improve the NCTF controller by overcoming the problem of integrator windup by adopting a fuzzy system. The improvement of the NCTF controller is evaluated through simulation using a rotary positioning system. The simulation result has demonstrated the effectiveness of the compensated NCTF in overcoming the problem of integrator windup.

  • The purposes of this paper are the review and derivation of design characteristics for the new construction of the practical flexible manufacturing system. The basic ideas to analyze the manufacturing system which is the automatically operated are dependant on the various manufacturing procedures in factory. The practical flexible manufacturing systems have various mechanical subsystems appropriated fur the final manufacturing products. Therefore the systems have the various kinds of hardwares as well as softwares. We study the software for the practical flexible manufacturing system designed and developed in the Halla University with the related company. Specially the design concepts and using specifications of all subsystems which are composed of mechanical and electronic movements of the product are analyzed and introduced in this dissertation.

  • In the study, for the practical approaches of job shop scheduling, we propose the new dispatching rules of job shop scheduling in order to complement the practical applications in the existing researches. The assumed situation for the practical approaches considers the following; relaxation of assumption for capacity constraint by machine flexibility, the addition of the common use of jig and fixture, unbalanced machine workloads and duedate tightness, and produces fast rescheduling that reflects unexpected situations. The performance of the new dispatching rules is compared and analyzed with the existing methods through the computer experiments in the assumed conditions. The results can be useful to improving a field application of the job shop scheduling.

  • Lately, a guideline for seismic design of electric substation facilities has been newly prepared and issued. The guideline adopts a new simplified dynamic analysis technique called "pseudo-resonance method" from the design code of Japan. The method can effectively consider resonance effect of structural system during earthquake motion. However, reliability and practical applicability of the method have not been fully guaranteed under the different seismic and engineering situations in Korea. This paper presents a validation study of the pseudo-resonance method for practical seismic analysis. For this purpose, various parametric studies have been performed using recorded earthquake motions and idealized substation equipment models. The results showed that the pseudo-resonance method can be effectively used for the practical seismic design of substation facilities in Korea.

  • Design factors such as design objects establishment, analysis, synthesis, production, test and evaluation should be educated in a systematic way. Also design ability to reflect practical restrictive conditions such as industrial standards, economic feasibility, environmental impact, aesthetics, safety and reliability, ethical impacts and social impacts should be cultivated. In this paper, we explain the meaning of these terms and propose a systematic engineering design education framework satisfying Korean engineering education accreditation criteria. We also present a simple implementation in information network engineering.
