Recently, interest in the DC transmission is rapidly increasing worldwide. In many countries and leading companies are prior to the aggressive development of HVDC technology and application. Especially, VSC-HVDC system has been widely applied to transfer power at long distance between power plant and power consumption area. Therefore in this paper, we analyzed the benefit-cost of VSC-HVDC system which has more advantages than existing transmission system. The proposed system is MMC(Modular Multilevel Converter) VSC-HVDC system that have stability of Power Grid, interconnect Large-scale New Power Generation Plants by prevents Blackout. And MMC VSC-HVDC system Reduced the loss importing foreign systems. And the benefits were calculated in four stages, and the costs were applied to the actual project. By evaluating the various avoidance costs compared to the benefit-cost, it was confirmed that MMC VSC-HVDC system was advantageous in system stability and economic and social benefits.
Major anthropogenic emissions of elemental mercury (Hg0) occur from coal-fired power plants, and the emissions can be controlled successfully using NH3-SCR (selective catalytic reduction) systems with catalysts. Although the catalysts can easily convert the gaseous mercury into Hg2+ species, the reactions are greatly dependent on the flue gas constituents and SCR conditions. Numerous deNOxing catalysts have been proposed for considerable reduction in power plant mercury emissions; however, there are few studies to date of elemental mercury oxidation using SCR processes with MW- and full-scale coal-fired boilers. In these flue gas streams, the chemistry of the mercury oxidation is very complicated. Coal types, deNOxing catalytic systems, and operating conditions are critical in determining the extent of the oxidation. Of these parameters, halogen element levels in coals may become a key vehicle for obtaining better Hg0 oxidation efficiency. Such halogens are Cl, Br, and F and the former one is predominant in coals. The chlorine exists in the form of salts and is transformed to gaseous HCl with a trace amount of Cl2 during the course of coal combustion. The HCl acts as a very powerful promoter for high catalytic Hg0 oxidation; however, this can be strongly dependent on the type of coal because of a wide variation in the chlorine contents of coal.

Recently, the importance of eco-friendly power generation facility using renewable energy has newly appeared. Hydropower plant is a very important source of electricity generation and supply which is very important to secure safety because it is commonly connected with multi facility and operated on a large scale. In this study, a scenario-based analysis method was suggested to assess vulnerability of a penstock system caused by water hammer commonly occurred in the operation of hydropower plants. A hypothetical hydropower plant was used to demonstrate the applicability of a transient analysis model. In order to verify reliability of the model, the prediction of pressure behaviors were compared with the results of commercial model (SIMSEN) and measured data, then a real hydroelectric power plant was applied to develop all potential water hammer scenarios during the actual operation. The scenario-based simulation and vulnerability assessment for water hammer in the penstock system were performed with internal and external load conditions. The simulation results indicated that the vulnerability of a penstock system was varied with the operating conditions of hydropower facilities and significantly affected by load combination consisting of different load scenarios. The proposed numerical method could be an useful tool for the vulnerabilityty assessment of the hydropower plants due to water hammer.

This study reviewed the type of the project and developmental plan related to ocean energy development in the coastal land boundaries and the ocean, and suggested the efficient scoping method through the diagnosis of the key items of environmental impact assessment (EIA) in the coastal area. The major projects are the construction of tidal power plant, tidal current power plant, and offshore wind power plant in the public water, and also those are the construction of solar power plants in the coastal land boundaries. While the project plans on a large scale such as the construction of tidal power plant, it is important to consider both property of usefulness of the designated areas and harmony analysis with marine space availability based on the adequacy of the site selection and relevance of plan with the master plan for reclamation and strategic environmental assessment (SEA). And also it needs to be considered the careful checkup on the EIA checklist referring to the type of project, effective post-monitoring, and suggestion of mitigating methods to minimize the environmental impacts during the stage of actual environmental impact assessment. Introduction of a system of integrated marine environmental impact assessment should be considered for reasonable and effective manage to developmental projects on the marine spatial area.

The superheater and reheater tubes of a heavy-load fossil power plant boiler can be damaged by overheating, and therefore, the degree of overheating is assessed by measuring the oxide scale thickness inside the tube during outages. The tube temperature prediction from the oxide scale thickness measurement is necessarily accompanied by destructive tube sampling, and the result of tube temperature prediction cannot be expected to be accurate unless the selection of the overheated point is precise and the initial-operation tube temperature has been obtained. In contrast, if the tube temperature is to be predicted analytically, considerable effort (to carry out the analysis of combustion, radiation, convection heat transfer, and turbulence fluid dynamics of the gas outside the tube) is required. In addition, in the case of analytical tube temperature prediction, load changes, variations in the fuel composition, and operation mode changes are hardly considered, thus impeding the continuous monitoring of the tube temperature. This paper proposes a method for the short-term prediction of tube temperature; the method involves the use of boiler operation information and flow-network-analysis-based tube heat flux. This method can help in high-temperaturedamage monitoring when it is integrated with a practical tube-damage-assessment method such as the Larson-Miller Parameter.

340 MWe circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler in Yeosu power station is under construction. The circulating fluidized bed boiler in the Yeosu power plant has a number of differences from other domestic boilers in terms of scale and design. Evaluation of design parameters of the Yeosu CFB boiler should be required because the direct application of existing technology is limited. In this study, design characteristics of the Yeosu CFB boiler was summarized. And thermogravimetric analysis was conducted with comparing other rank coals. Watersteam side heat absorption, flue gas temperature and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by heat and mass balance. Design parameters for the Yeosu CFB boiler were discussed along with typical value in the CFB design range.
The paper presents functional modelling and its application for diagnosis in nuclear power plants. Functional modelling is defined and its relevance for coping with the complexity of diagnosis in large scale systems like nuclear plants is explained. The diagnosis task is analyzed and it is demonstrated that the levels of abstraction in models for diagnosis must reflect plant knowledge about goals and functions which is represented in functional modelling. Multilevel flow modelling (MFM), which is a method for functional modelling, is introduced briefly and illustrated with a cooling system example. The use of MFM for reasoning about causes and consequences is explained in detail and demonstrated using the reasoning tool, the MFMSuite. MFM applications in nuclear power systems are described by two examples: a PWR; and an FBR reactor. The PWR example show how MFM can be used to model and reason about operating modes. The FBR example illustrates how the modelling development effort can be managed by proper strategies including decomposition and reuse.

Induction generator is easy to durability and maintenance than the synchronous generator. So, recently Induction generator has been widely applied to small-scale hydroelectric power plant. When the rotor is operating faster than synchronous speed, induction machine can generate electric power. Induction generator has a large inrush currents, such as the starting current of the induction motor. Induction motor has been designed a variety of rotor shape in order to reduce starting current. Since the occurrence of high inrush current cause a voltage drop to the system, it will need to reduce possible. Because the starting current of the squirrel-cage induction motor varies in accordance with the rotor shape, it is necessary to analyze the magnitude of inrush current in order to apply to the generator. In this study, we analyzed the inrush current and the voltage drop caused in accordance with the rotor shape of 1500kw induction generator.
Nuclear-related facilities can be detrimentally affected by ground vibrations due to the collapse of adjacent cooling towers in nuclear power plants. To reduce this hazard risk, a design-oriented acceleration response spectrum (ARS) was proposed to predict the dynamic responses of nuclear-related facilities subjected to ground vibrations. For this purpose, 20 computational cases were performed based on cooling tower-soil numerical models developed in previous studies. This resulted in about 2664 ground vibration records to build a basic database and five complementary databases with consideration of primary factors that influence ground vibrations. Afterwards, these databases were applied to generate the design-oriented ARS using a response spectrum analysis approach. The proposed design-oriented ARS covers a wide range of natural periods up to 6 s and consists of an ascending portion, a plateau, and two connected descending portions. Spectral parameters were formulated based on statistical analysis. The spectrum was verified by comparing the representative acceleration magnitudes obtained from the design-oriented ARS with those from computational cases using cooling tower-soil numerical models with reasonable consistency.

This paper deals with the seismic qualification of the reflective metal insulation for thermal shielding that is installed on the outer surfaces of the main equipment of the primary coolant system of a nuclear power plant. A small-scale model of the reactor pressure vessel, which has equivalent dynamic characteristics, was designed to be tested in domestic seismic testing facilities in the future. In this study, seismic analysis of the small-scale model installed with metal insulation was performed using equivalent static analysis and response spectrum analysis. The required Response Spectrum for main equipment of the primary coolant system of APR-1400 plant were considered to establish the enveloping response spectrum, which was applied to the seismic analysis model. The results from two seismic analysis methods were compared to show the structural adequacy of the metal insulator design against a safe shutdown earthquake. This study will form the basis for the seismic testing to support the seismic qualification of the reflective metal insulator.
