  • A dynamic economic dispatch and control method is proposed to minimize the overall generating cost for a stand-alone microgrid in DongAo Island, which is integrated with wind turbine generator, solar PV, diesel generator, battery storage, the seawater desalination system and the conventional loads. A new dispatching strategy is presented based on the ranking of component generation costs and two different control modes, in which diesel generator and battery storage alternate to act as the master power source to follow system power fluctuation. The optimal models and GA-based optimization process are given to minimize the overall system generating cost subject to the corresponding constraints and the proposed dispatch strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in the stand-alone microgrid in DongAo Island, and the results provide a feasible theoretical and technical basis for optimal energy management and operation control of stand-alone microgrid.

  • Pubilc utility industries including the electric utility industry are facing a new stream of privatization com-petition with the private sector and deregulation. The necewssity to solve now and in the future power supply and demand problems has been increasing through the sophisticated generation expansion plan(GEP) approach con-sidering not only KEPCo's supply-side resources but also outside resources such as non-utility generation(NUG) demand-side management (DSM). Under the environmental situation in the current electric utility industry a new approach is needed to acquire multiple resources competitively. This study presents the development of a modified electric generation expansion analysis system(EGEAS) model with avoided cost based on the existing EGEAS model which is a dynamic program to develope an optimal generation expansion plan for the electric utility. We are trying to find optimal GEP in Korea's case using our modified model and observe the difference for the level of reliabilities such as the reserve margin(RM) loss of load probability(LOLP) and expected unserved energy percent(EUEP) between the existing EGEAS model and our model. In addition we are trying to calculate avoided cost for NUG resources which is a criterion to evaluate herem and test possibility of connection calculation of avoided cost with GEP implementation using our modified model. The results of our case study are as follows. First we were able to find that the generation expansion plan and reliability measures were largely influenced by capacity size and loading status of NUG resources, Second we were able to find that avoided cost which are criteria to evaluate NUG resources could be calculated by using our modified EGEAS model with avoided cost. We also note that avoided costs were calculated by our model in connection with generation expansion plans.

  • The entry guidance design involves trajectory optimization and generation of a drag acceleration profile as the satisfaction of trajectory conditions during the entry flight. The reference trajectory is parameterized and optimized as piecewise linear functions of the velocity. A regularization technique is employed to achieve desired properties of the optimal drag profile. The regularized problem has smoothness properties and the minimization of performance index then prevents the drag acceleration from varying too fast, thus eliminating discontinuities. This paper shows the trajectory control using the simple control law as well as the information of reference drag acceleration.

  • The Optimal Power Flow(OPF) is the optimization model that has different constraints and the specified objective function, which is very useful tool for efficient system and market operation in the competitive electricity market. The existed OPF models focus on the minimization of generation fuel cost under informed demand values at each bus Recently, the studies of OPF model with demand function considering the response behavior of customers in the deregulated electricity market have been executed. This paper implements the OPF model using demand function with specified price elasticity, and provides the analysis of related results.

  • This paper presents an emergency control algorithms for viability crisis following abnormal condition as well as a sudden major supply outage and line outage. The algorithm considers the effect of voltage-reactive power control for determining the load shedding quantities and generation reallocation. The problem is decomposed into a P-problem and a Q-problem. The former minimizes system frequency deviation from nominal value and the latter minimizes voltages violation of load buses. The optimization problem is solved by a reduced gradient technique which can handle a great number of inequality constraints very efficiently. It has been found that the use of the proposed algorithm for 6-Bus system restore the abnormal system during the viability crisis to the normal state.

  • Recently, the development of mobile devices demands information storage systems to use micro drive devices and cheap media. These should have several characteristics, for example, the subminiature of size, the robustness of shock, the minimum of cost and power consumption, and the removability of multiple applications. A conventional optical disk drive is more suitable for these specifications than the others. The optical storage system of the new generation to use a blue laser and a high numerical aperture (NA) is the perfect candidate for micro optical disk drives. In this paper, the micro actuator that can be applied to a micro optical disk drive is designed by response surface methodology to use a structural analysis and an electro-magnetic analysis. Based on above results, the coarse actuator and fine actuator are designed and improved from the point of view of the size and the power. Consequently, the designs of a micro actuator are proposed through these courses.

  • This paper presents a distributed winding type axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) with reduced the total harmonic distortion (THD), suitable for wind turbine generation systems. Although the THD of the proposed distributed winding type is more reduced than the concentrated winding type, the unbalance of the phase back EMF occurs. To improve the unbalance of the phase back EMF and the output power of the distributed winding type AFPMSG, the Kriging based on the latin hypercube sampling (LHS) is utilized. Finally, these optimization results are confirmed by experimental results. As a result, the unbalance of the phase back EMF and the output power of the distributed winding type AFPMSG were improved while maintaining the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the average phase back EMF.

  • In this paper, we propose the generalized on-line economic dispatch algorithm including transmission loss. it was derived from the process developing matrix form of the classic ELD problem. it can rapidly calculate generation power using transmission loss and transmission loss sensitivity calculated from the result of power flow analysis. Transmission loss sensitivity ${\partial}P_{loss}/{\partial}P_G$ is derived using optimization technique.

  • The present work investigates the wave generation and propagation in a 2-D wave flume to assess the effect of wave reflection for varying beach slopes by using a numerical tool based on computational fluid dynamics. At first, a numerical wave flume (NWF) is created with different mesh sizes to select the optimum mesh size for time efficient simulation. In addition, different beach slope conditions are introduced such as 1:3, 1:5 and numerical beach at the far end of the NWF to optimize the wave reflection solutions. In addition, several parameters are analysed in order to optimize the solutions. The developed numerical model and its key findings are compared with analytical and experimental surface elevation results and it reveals a good correlation. Finally, the recommended numerical solutions are validated with the experimental findings.

  • The physical protection systems of Nuclear Power Plant are utilized to safeguard targets against intrude by attacker. As the methods employed by attackers to intrude Nuclear Power Plant become increasingly complex and diverse, there is an urgent need to identify optimal defense strategies to interrupt adversary intrusions. This paper focuses on studying the defense of security personnel against adversary intrusions and utilizes an evolutionary game approach to select the optimal defense decisions for physical protection systems. Under the assumption of bounded rationality for both the attacker and defender, the paper constructs replication dynamic equations for attack and defense strategies, investigating the process of strategy selection and the stability of evolution. Finally, a minimal model is proposed to validate the feasibility of utilizing the evolutionary game model for defense strategy selection.
