This paper presents analysis results for the effect of power control strategies on the part load performance of gas turbine based power generation systems utilizing exhaust heat of the gas turbine such as combined cycle power plants and regenerative gas turbines. For the combined cycle, part load efficiency variations were compared among different single shaft gas turbines representing various technology levels. Power control strategies considered were fuel only control and IGV control. It has been observed that gas turbines with higher design performances exhibit superior part load performances. Improvement of part load efficiency of the combined cycle by adopting air flow modulation was analyzed and it was concluded that since the average combined cycle performance is affected by the range of IGV control as well as its temperature control principle, a control strategy appropriate for the load characteristics of the individual plant should be adopted. For the regenerative gas turbine, it is likewise concluded that maintaining exhaust temperature as high as possible by air flow rate modulation is required to increase part load efficiency.
This paper describes the economic evaluation of battery energy storage system(BESS) for the domestic application. Application target is decided on conventional combined cycle of domestic and we analyzed economics that compared conventional combined cycle with power generation cost in development and the commercialized in case that establish it on utility and customer, urban and rural. The result shows that about the same conventional combined cycle of Anyang, Bundang and Pyungtak but more economical than seoincheon conventional combined cycle. And, in case of capacity enlargment and using the maintenance free battery more economical than conventional system.
In this study, HFC ORCs (Organic Rankine Cycles) are investigated for a low-temperature geothermal power generation by a simulation method. A steady-state simulation model is developed to analyze and optimize cycle's performance. The model contains a turbine, a pump, an expansion valve and heat exchangers. The turbine and pump are modelled by an isentropic efficiency. Simulations were carried out for the given heat source and sink inlet temperatures, and given flow rate that is based on the typical power plant thermal-capacitance-rate ratio. 3 HFC fluids are considered as a candidate for a working fluid of low-temperature ORCs. In this study, all optimized HFC ORCs are shown to yield almost the same performance in terms of power for a low-temperature heat source of about $100^{\circ}C$.
There has been a growing interest in the recent time for the development of solar power tower plants, which are mainly used for utility scale power generation. Combined heat and power (CHP) is an efficient and clean approach to generate electric power and useful thermal energy from a single heat source. The waste heat from the topping Brayton cycle is utilized in the bottoming HRSG cycle for driving steam turbine and also to produce process steam so that efficiency of the cycle is increased. A thermal storage system is likely to add greater reliability to such plants, providing power even during non-peak sunshine hours. This paper presents a conceptual configuration of a solar power tower combined heat and power plant with a topping air Brayton cycle. A simple downstream Rankine cycle with a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and a process heater have been considered for integration with the solar Brayton cycle. The conventional GT combustion chamber is replaced with a solar receiver. The combined cycle has been analyzed using energy as well as exergy methods for a range of pressure ratio across the GT block. From the thermodynamic analysis, it is found that such an integrated system would give a maximum total power (2.37 MW) at a much lower pressure ratio (5) with an overall efficiency exceeding 27%. The solar receiver and heliostats are the main components responsible for exergy destruction. However, exergetic performance of the components is found to improve at higher pressure ratio of the GT block.
This study aimed to analyze organic Rankine cycle(ORC) which recovers discarded heat from a gas turbine based combined cycle cogeneration(CC-cogen) plant in terms of both performance and economics. The nominal electric power of the CC-cogen plant is around $120MW_e$, and heat for district heating is $153MW_{th}$. The major purpose of this study is to compare various options in selecting heat source of the ORC. Three heat sources were compared. Case 1 uses the exhaust gas from the HRSG, which is purely wasted to environment in normal plant operation without ORC. Case 2 also uses the exhaust gas from the HRSG. On the other hand, in this case, the DH economizer, which is located at the end of the HRSG, does not operate. Case 3 generates power using some of the district heating water which is supplied to consumers. The estimated ORC power generation ranges between 0.3 to 2.3% of the power generation capacity of the CC-cogen plant. Overall, Case 3 is evaluated to be better than other two options in terms of system design flexibility and power generation capacity.
Power generation cycle using ammonia-water mixture as working fluid has attracted much attention because of its ability to efficiently convert low-temperature heat source into useful work. If an ammonia-water power cycle is combined with a power cycle using liquefied natural gas (LNG), the conversion efficiency could be further improved owing to the cold energy of LNG at $-162^{\circ}C$. In this work parametric study is carried out on the thermodynamic performance of a power cycle consisted of an ammonia-water Rankine cycle as an upper cycle and a LNG cycle as a bottom cycle. As a driving energy the combined cycle utilizes a low-temperature heat source in the form of sensible heat. The effects on the system performance of the system parameters such as ammonia concentration ($x_b$), turbine 1 inlet pressure ($P_{H_1}$) and temperature ($T_{H_1}$), and condenser outlet temperature ($T_{L_1}$) are extensively investigated. Calculation results show that thermal efficiency increases with the increase of $P_{H_1}$, $T_{H_1}$ and the decrease of $T_{L_1}$, while its dependence on $x_b$ has a downward convex shape. The changes of net work generation with respect to $P_{H_1}$, $T_{H_1}$, $T_{L_1}$, and $x_b$ are roughly linear.
As the environmental regulations is more strengthened, the study of the renewable energy system and waste heat for electricity production is being accelerated. In this study, the performance and power generation rate of solar power generation by using R134a Rankine cycle was analyzed with solar radiation and mass flow rate of R134a. As a result, the maximum and minimum collected heat of solar collector was 20.4 kW and 13.6 kW at October and December, respectively. Besides, the highest generator power was generated at October and it was 0.91 kW/day, while the lowest generator power is occurred at December and it was about 0.85 kW/day.

Combined cycle plants which feature distinct advantages for power generation such as fast response, high efficiency, environmental friendliness, fuel flexiblity represent the majority of new generating plant installations across the globe. Combined cycle plants have different operating modes where the operating parameters can differ greatly depending which mode is operating at the time. This paper addresses the bidding strategy model of combined cycle plants in a competitive electricity market by using a characteristic of multiple operating modes of combined cycle plants. Simulation results of case studies show that an operating mode among multiple ones is selected strategically in generation bidding for more profit of generation company.
