  • In this study, we selected and trained 9 people in the diaphragm training group and 9 people in the power-breath training group among elderly people aged 65 or older living in the community, and investigated the effect of combined training using respiratory equipment on lung function, balance, and life satisfaction. We conducted the elderly to do combined exercises, twice a week for a total of 6 weeks, that include the breathing training by diaphragm, the breathing training using Power-breath equipment, and the training using a theraband. We evaluated the changes in the lung function, the balance, and the life satisfaction before and after the intervention for our study subjects. As a result of our measurement, lung function, balance, and life satisfaction showed significant changes in the experimental group that performed the combined training using Power-breath equipment. As a result of the study, we confirmed that the elderly in the community had a positive effect on the life satisfaction by improving lung function and balance ability after conducting a combined training using respiratory equipment.

  • We consider discrimination curve and minimum dwell time for Poisson distribution and Poisson-power function distribution. Let the random variable X has Poisson distribution with mean .lambda.. For the hypothesis testing H$\_$0/:.lambda. = t vs. H$\_$1/:.lambda. = d (d$\_$0/ if X.leq.c. Since a critical value c can not be determined to satisfy both types of errors .alpha. and .beta., we considered discrimination curve that gives the maximum d such that it can be discriminated from t for a given .alpha. and .beta.. We also considered an algorithm to compute the minimum dwell time which is needed to discriminate at the given .alpha. and .beta. for the Poisson counts and proved its convergence property. For the Poisson-power function distribution, we reject H$\_$0/ if X.leq..'{c}.. Since a critical value .'{c}. can not be determined to satisfy both .alpha. and .beta., similar to the Poisson case we considered discrimination curve and computation algorithm to find the minimum dwell time for the Poisson-power function distribution. We prosent this algorithm and an example of computation. It is found that the minimum dwell time algorithm fails for the Poisson-power function distribution if the aiming error variance .sigma.$\^$2/$\_$2/ is too large relative to the variance .sigma.$\^$2/$\_$1/ of the Gaussian distribution of intensity. In other words, if .ell. is too small, we can not find the minimum dwell time for a given .alpha. and .beta..

  • In this paper, the effects of filter parameters on a supercontinuum-based all-optical thresholder are experimentally investigated. By tuning the filter parameters, the power transfer function and power transmission function are tailored. The experimental results show that a thresholder with short center wavelength has a better power function, and the slope in the middle level of the thresholder increases with increasing bandwidth. Through tuning the filter parameters, the thresholder can achieve a steplike power transfer function for optical thresholding, and a steplike power transmission function for optical self-switching. This makes the supercontinuum-based thresholder more flexible, and allows customization of performance to meet different demands in various applications.

  • The conventional sliding mode control (CSMC) has a number of problems. It may cause dc output voltage ripple and it cannot guarantee the robustness of the whole system for a matrix rectifier (MR). Furthermore, the existence of a filter can decrease the input power factor (IPF). Therefore, a novel global sliding mode control (GSMC) based on a hyperbolic tangent function with IPF compensation for MRs is proposed in this paper. Firstly, due to the reachability and existence of the sliding mode, the condition of the matrix rectifier's robustness and chattering elimination is derived. Secondly, a global switching function is designed and the determination of the transient operation status is given. Then a SMC compensation strategy based on a DQ transformation model is applied to compensate the decreasing IPF. Finally, simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the control algorithm. The obtained results show that compared with CSMC, applying the proposed GSMC based on a hyperbolic tangent function for matrix rectifiers can achieve a ripple-free output voltage with a unity IPF. In addition, the rectifier has an excellent robust performance at all times.

  • We introduction some properties for fuzzy power function of performance of a test. First we define fuzzy type I error and type II error for the probability of the two types of error. And we show that an fuzzy error probability of one kind can only be reduced at cost of increasing the other fuzzy error probability.

  • We prove a characterization of the power function distribution by lower record values. We prove that $F(x)=(\frac{x}{a})^{\alpha}$ for all $x$, 0 < $x$ < $a$, ${\alpha}$ > 0 and $a$ > 0 if and only if $\frac{X_{L(n)}}{X_{L(m)}}$ and $X_{L(m)}$ are independent for $1{\leq}m$ < $n$.

  • The maximum likelihood method does not admit explicit solutions when the sample is multiply censored and progressive censored. So we shall propose some approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of the scale parameter for the power function distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples and progressive Type-II censored samples when shape parameter is known. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error (MSE) through Monte Carlo simulation for various censoring schemes.

  • This paper proposes a stochastic modeling of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) distribution in power systems, and analyzes the corresponding clustering characteristic. It is essential for power utilities to estimate the PEV charging demand as the penetration level of PEV is expected to increase rapidly in the near future. Although the distribution of PEVs in power systems is the primary factor for estimating the PEV charging demand, the data currently available are statistics related to fuel-driven vehicles and to existing electric demands in power systems. In this paper, we calculate the number of households using electricity at individual ending buses of a power system based on the electric demands. Then, we estimate the number of PEVs per household using the probability density function of PEVs derived from the given statistics about fuel-driven vehicles. Finally, we present the clustering characteristic of the PEV distribution via case studies employing the test systems.

  • In this paper, cooling system of power transformers is proposed for temperature optimized control. We predict the peak temperature of power transformer coils using load factors and construct a cooling system using weighting function. For the optimized temperature control for power transformer, a correlation function based on the load factor of a load current and the each temperatures for winding coils, for air and for oil is presented to predict the winding-coil peak temperature. Also, the results controlled by applying the power transformer is presented.
