  • In this paper, we proposed a design of upper-limb rehabilitation device with power-assist function for stroke survivals. The designed upper-limb rehabilitation device has three degrees of freedom; it is possible to perform flexion and extension motions of wrist, index finger and the other fingers except the thumb independently. The power-assist for wrist motion is performed by a pneumatic double-acting cylinder, but the fingers are actuated by electrical linear actuators to assist motions. A prototype upper-limb rehabilitation device and its controller were implemented. The position controller showed 0.8 mm errors in the steady-state. Experimental results showed that the proposed upper-limb rehabilitation device with power-assist function is feasible.

  • This paper analyzes the optimal user density and power allocation for Device-to-Device (D2D) communication underlaying cellular networks on multiple bands with the target of maximizing the D2D transmission capacity. The entire network is modeled by Poisson point process (PPP) which based on stochastic geometry. Then in order to ensure the outage probabilities of both cellular and D2D communication, a sum capacity optimization problem for D2D system on multiple bands is proposed. Using convex optimization, the optimal D2D density is obtained in closed-form when the D2D transmission power is determined. Next the optimal D2D transmission power is obtained in closed-form when the D2D density is fixed. Based on the former two conclusions, an iterative algorithm for the optimal D2D density and power allocation on multiple bands is proposed. Finally, the simulation results not only demonstrate the D2D performance, density and power on each band are constrained by cellular communication as well as the interference of the entire system, but also verifies the superiority of the proposed algorithm over sorting-based and removal algorithms.

  • According to wireless network technology and mobile processors performance were improved, the small wireless mobile device such as smart phones has been widely utilized. The mobile devices can be used GPS information, thereby the services based on location information was increased. GPS was impossible to provide location information in indoor and signal shading environment, and the tracking systems based on short distance wireless communication are required infrastructure. The IEEE 802.11 based tracking system is possible estimation using APs, however the tracking device is exhausted battery power seriously. In this paper, we propose IEEE 802.11 based low-power tracking system. We reduced power consumption from channel scanning and network connection. For performance evaluation, we designed and implemented the tracking tag device, and measured power consumption of the device. As the simulation result, we confirmed that the power consumption was reduced 46% compare to the standard execution.

  • This paper studies flicker evaluation considering power quality disturbance. A flicker problem with light device irritates human's eyes. Also, the flicker problem has an influence on adverse effect such as rolling device and rotating device. However, a study of flicker evaluation is not complete. A flicker is measured and evaluated at monitoring point. But we consider power quality disturbances such as voltage sag and transient that cause fault and inverter/breaker switching. Power quality disturbances affects flicker evaluation. A flicker evaluation index increases. Therefore, we consider power quality disturbances. We detect voltage sag and transient using wavelet and evaluate flicker without flicker index including power quality disturbances.

  • The present article reports an analysis and investigation of a direct AC-AC quasi-resonant converter. A bidirectional power device, whose switching frequency is lower than the frequency of the current passing through the load, is used for its realization. The zero voltage switching mode is described when zero voltage on the power device is available by measuring it with the control system. The continuous current in the resonant inductance by switching the power device at zero voltage is considered, and it is characterized by two sub-modes. A mathematical analysis of the processes has been made and comparative results from the computer simulation and experimental study have been brought. The converter can be used in a wide areas of power electronics: induction heating, wireless power transfer, AC-DC converters, etc.

  • There are several electricity applied sterilizers such as sterilizer with high frequency, sterilizer with ozone, sterilizer with high voltage, and so on. Those sterilizers feature “because there is no chemical process, there is no secondly environmental pollution” At the power conversion part, AVS and ZCS methods have been used that it results in reduced switching loss, miniaturized size, and lightened weight. Besides, the current in the device is smaller than that of existing method. Thus, it is expected that the cost of sterilization process, when quality of the device is measured by power consumption, will be reduced.

  • In the case of a 900 MW combined cycle power plant, most of the load on the site is a rotating device and is operated at a low power factor, and the power factor decrease increases the reactive power, which causes the efficiency of the device to be consumed and unnecessary unnecessary power consumption. This study intends to present the results by installing and operating a reactive power compensation device that absorbs and removes reactive power, which is a solution to this problem, on a 6.9 kV on-board bus. As a result of application of this system, first, it was confirmed that the power factor of the rotating machine was improved to 0.22 and the load power in the house was reduced by 1.4%, and the thermal efficiency of the generator was increased by 0.1% and the power generation power by 810 kW. Next, it was confirmed that the cost of construction and operation can be reduced in the future due to economic feasibility, with a decrease of 200 million won/year in electricity loss compared to 1.5 billion won in investment, an increase of 1 billion won/year in sales, and a one-year capital recovery period.

  • In this paper, a vibration energy harvesting circuit using a piezoelectric device is designed. MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) control function is implemented using the electric power-voltage characteristic of a piezoelectric device to deliver the maximum power to load. The designed MPPT control circuit traces the maximum power point by periodically sampling the open circuit voltage of a full-wave rectifier circuit connected to the piezoelectric device output and delivers the maximum available power to load. The proposed vibration energy harvesting circuit is designed with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Simulation results show that the maximum power efficiency of the designed circuit is 91%, and the chip area except pads is $700{\mu}m{\times}730{\mu}m$.

  • In this paper, a full-duplex NOMA relaying based underlay device-to-device (D2D) communication scheme is proposed, in which D2D transmitter assists cellular downlink transmission as a full-duplex relay. Specifically, D2D transmitter receives signals from base station and transmits the superposition signals to D2D receiver and cellular user in NOMA scheme simultaneously. Furthermore, we investigate the power allocation under the proposed scheme, aiming to maximize D2D link's achievable transmit rate under cellular link's transmit rate constraint and total power constraint. To tackle the power allocation problem, we first propose a power allocation method based on linear fractional programming. In addition, we derive closed-form expressions of the optimal transmit power for base station and D2D transmitter. Simulation results show that the performance of two solutions matches well and the proposed full-duplex NOMA relaying based underlay D2D communication scheme outperforms existing full-duplex relaying based D2D communication scheme.
