  • To Prevent the damage of power system facilities by snow accretion on transmission lines, a prototype expert system has been developed. The system has the basic functions of forecasting snow accretion on transmission lines and making a list of all feasible and effective deicing countermeasures to assist power system operators. As estimating of snow accretion on power lines and making countermeasure plans are very difficult to solve analytically, knowledge engineering can be an effective method for this problem. The heuristics about the effect of weather conditions on the snow accretion process on power lines and power system operation for the deicing constitutes main nile base. Simulation results based on past snow accretion accident data show that the proposed system is very premising.

  • China in the sixteenth century was exposed to various problems, and the surrounding nations were growing as potential threats by building up their powers and forming an unstable political state by losing control of civilization in politics, economy, knowledge, ideas and ideas. Especially, Mateo Ricci's knowledge and ideas were enough to attract the Chinese knowledge society. However, the influx of Western astronomy and world maps was not only a substitute for the notion of heaven and earth of Chinese tradition, but it destroyed all the knowledge and ideology of China, the foundation of political power and knowledge power. It transformed China in the center of the world into China in some parts of the world. It also brought about a great change in the civilization map of culture and savagery. As a result, the relationship between 'center and periphery', 'civilization and barbarians' could not be established, and the title of Chinese as a unique and exclusive civilization could no longer be maintained.

  • The purpose of this study is to reinterpretate the history of nursing and health care from the view-point of post-structuralism. It has been emphasized that the development of modern health care has been due to the progressive efforts of medicine and to medical discoveries. Medicine has dominated the history of health care rather than nursing or other health professions. The present study adopts the post-structural method by Foucault, which tries to unite language and knowledge. Foucault examines "the institutionalization of knowledge and the power exerted thereby, with special reference to the devices of social regulation and their function over the madness, the disease, the crime, and the sexuality. " The concept of power in Foucault's writing is that it is exerted spontaneously in verbal behaviors of individuals through knowledge of everyday life such as definition of body or mind, sexuality and relationship of family. Therefore as to the problem of power, this study tries to understand the meaning of the health care history through an analysis of the formation of medical discourse. In order to have authority in a power relation, the medical professional asserts that medical discourse is the most scientific knowledge. The authority of medical professionals can be reinforced by the fact that male medical professionals outnumber female. Devaluation of nursing care is reinforced by the medicine which has the legitimate authority through use of the political skills.

  • Purpose: The aim of the study is to determine factors influencing quality of caregiving by caregivers for the elderly with dementia. Methods: Data were collected from 87 caregivers for elders with dementia who had visited in Busan Metropolitan Center for Dementia and D-University hospital outpatient center from July 10 to September 30, 2015. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the severity of the elders' dementia and knowledge of dementia, burdens and quality of caregiving by the caregivers. The SPSS 21.0 version program was used for data analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression. Results: Significant predictors of quality of caregiving by caregivers included caregivers' burdens (explanation power 25%), knowledge of dementia (explanation power 4%) and levels of education (explanation power 3%). These factors explained 32.3% of the variances in quality of caregiving. Conclusion: Burdens on caregivers were a major factor that decreased quality of caregiving, and knowledge of dementia was a factor that increased it. These findings show that educational programs and intervention for reducing burdens and improving knowledge of dementia are necessary to improve quality of caregiving by caregivers.

  • A phenomena identification and ranking table(PIRT) was developed for a main steam line break (MSLB) event for the Advanced Power Reactor-1400 (APR-1400). The selectee event was a double-ended steam line break at full power, with the reactor coolant pump running. The developmental panel selected the fuel performance as the primary safety criterion during the ranking process. The plant design data, the results of the APR-1400 safety analysis, and the results of an additional best-estimate analysis by the MARS computer code were used in the development of the PIRT. The period of the transient was composed of three phases: pre-trip, rapid cool-down, and safety injection. Based on the relative importance to the primary evaluation criterion, the ranking of each system, component, and phenomenon/process was performed for each time phase. Finally, the knowledge-level for each important process for certain components was ranked in terms of existing knowledge. The PIRT can be used as a guide for planning cost-effective experimental programs and for code development efforts, especially for the quantification of those processes and/or phenomena that are highly important, but not well understood.

  • This paper presents an information collection and a novel inference technique for evaluation of power system operation state. In most developing countries, power demands are steadily increasing and consequently power systems are becoming larger and more complicated. In addition, power system deregulations further complicate the power system operational tasks, which are resulted in prevailing wide area blackouts worldwide. In this paper, we proposed an effective information collection and operating state evaluation methods using a knowledge-based system. The RTS-79 24 bus system is used as a test system. The power system model is composed with JESS templates and included in the knowledge-base as a part of fixed facts. Dynamic informations are collected from various analysis results and actual operational data. Inferences are performed with rules expressed with terms in different abstraction levels. Future research will be concentrated on intelligent contingency selections for preventing wide area blackouts.

  • Managing knowledge effectively is a critical factor for the competitive power of a company. There are efforts to use knowledge as an important resource in many industrial areas and likewise the interest in knowledge management is growing in the construction industry. Nevertheless, there are limitations in the current capture and reuse of knowledge in the construction industry owing to the unique characteristics of the knowledge created during the processes of projects. The knowledge produced during the processes of construction projects is project-oriented, experiential and context specific and due to these characteristics the reuse of knowledge is difficult. In this research, we focus on capturing and identifying the characteristics of construction knowledge and propose a method to apply these characteristics in developing an ontology based construction knowledge retrieval system to improve construction knowledge retrieval and enhance knowledge reuse.

  • Knowledge is important to both individuals and organizations. Individuals can have the opportunity to have bargaining power within their organisations by having knowledge of know-how and ideas. Having ample knowledge of the organization can bring about advantages in securing competitive advantage. Organization wants to encourage employees to share knowledge. Despite the efforts to enhance knowledge sharing, often the effort failed. Employees are unwilling to share their knowledge or hide their knowledge. The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between knowledge hiding and knowledge sharing based on exploring the influence factors of knowledge hiding and knowledge sharing. As a result, the influence factors of knowledge hiding and knowledge sharing were different. The influences of knowledge hiding influenced knowledge hiding only and did not affect knowledge sharing. This implies that knowledge hiding and knowledge sharing do not exist on a single line but exist independently of each other, such as 'Herzberg's two-factor theory'. This study suggests that knowledge hiding is a field of interest as well as knowledge sharing. In practice, it is suggested that the concept of promoting knowledge sharing is not a way to reduce knowledge hiding, so the two concepts should be managed separately.
