Based on the inherent relationship between dc-bus voltage and grid feeding active power, two dc-bus voltage regulators with different references are adopted for a grid-connected PV inverter operating in both normal grid voltage mode and low grid voltage mode. In the proposed scheme, an additional dc-bus voltage regulator paralleled with maximum power point tracking controller is used to guarantee the reliability of the low voltage ride-through (LVRT) of the inverter. Unlike conventional LVRT strategies, the proposed strategy does not require detecting grid voltage sag fault in terms of realizing LVRT. Moreover, the developed method does not have switching operations. The proposed technique can also enhance the stability of a power system in case of varying environmental conditions during a low grid voltage period. The operation principle of the presented LVRT control strategy is presented in detail, together with the design guidelines for the key parameters. Finally, a 3 kW prototype is built to validate the feasibility of the proposed LVRT strategy.

This paper presents a sliding mode controller (SMC) to directly control the active and reactive powers of a doubly ffd induction generator (DFIG) for wind turbines. Sliding-mode control (SMC) and space-vector modulation (SVM) are combined to ensure high-performance operation. SMC scheme is designed to provide robust and fast power controls without frame transformation and current controller used in the conventional FOC drive. Simulation results and experimental results demonstrate that proposed methods preserve the effectiveness and robustness during variations of active and reactive power.

The conventional burst-mode APC(Automatic Power Control) circuit had an effective structure that was suitable for a low power consumption and a monolithic chip. However, as data rate was increased, it caused errors due to the effect of the zero density. In this paper, we invented a new structured peak-comparator which could compensate the unbalance of the injected currents using double gated MOS and MOS diode. And we proposed a new burst-mode APC adopting it. The new peak-comparator in the proposed APC was very robust to zero density variations maintaining the correct decision point of the current comparison at high data rate. It was also suitable for a low power consumption and a monolithic chip due to lack of large capacitors.

The home gateway, an equipment which works as an gateway for ubiquitous home network, relays all functions of a home network. The home gateway must always be connected in order to provide seamless services. However it gives unfavorable power consumption. Therefore the needs for working in maximum power saving mode while there is no data traffic and for invoking to the normal function when it is necessary. In this paper we survey the technical papers and the standards documents and provide an overview of power saving mode in the home gateway.

HMT is a type of continuously variable transmission which has split power flow path characteristics with gear train and hydro static unit. The benefit of improved fuel economy and high power capacity enables it to be a promising application fur large vehicles. This paper presents the analysis results including velocity, static torque, transmission efficiency and dynamic model of the HMT that is developed for city buses. The speeds or gear shafts, the static clutch torque and split power ratio for each mode are detailed here. From the analysis of HMT transmission efficiency considering the power loss in meshed gear and hydraulic unit, we can conclude that minimization of hydraulic power is necessary for improved fuel economy design. Also, the dynamic simulation result for mode shift characteristics shows that little shift shock is observed because of the synchronized rotation speed in clutch.

In this paper, we report on the high power amplification of a narrow-linewidth Yb-doped polarization-maintained (PM) fiber laser in a 3-stage, all-fiber master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system. The linearly polarized single-mode output power was 400 W with an 85% slope efficiency, with a linewidth of 2.5 GHz (full width at half maximum). Furthermore, mitigation of mode instability (MI) has been demonstrated by tightly coiling the gain fiber to a diameter of 11 cm. In addition, methods for higher power scaling are discussed.

Structural intensity of plates experiencing bending vibration is analytically evaluated using the modal analysis based on assumed mode method. To evaluate the convergence of structural intensity according to the number of superposition modes, the power obtained by structural intensity integration over the closed curve containing the excitation source is compared with the power injected into plates. The erect of power reduction due to the material internal loss is evaluated using the intensity around a localized damping point, In addition, the dominant component among internal forces in the power transfer by the bending vibration of plates and the change of power flow due to stiffener are also investigated.
In this paper, the fault line selection and location problems of single line-to-ground (SLG) fault in distribution network are addressed. Firstly, the adaptive filtering property for empirical mode decomposition is formulated. Then in view of the different characteristics showed by the intrinsic mode functions(IMF) under different fault inception angles obtained by empirical mode decomposition, the sign of peak value about the low-frequency IMF and the capacitance transient energy is chosen as the fault line selection criteria according to the different proportion occupied by the low-frequency components. Finally, the fault location is determined based upon the comparison result with adjacent fault passage indicators' (FPI) waveform on the strength of the interaction between the distribution terminal unit(DTU) and the FPI. Moreover, the logic nodes regarding to fault line selection and location are newly expanded according to IEC61850, which also provides reference to acquaint the DTU or FPI's function and monitoring. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed fault line selection and location methods.

This paper presents a novel single-stage high-power-factor electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps operating in critical conduction mode. The proposed topology is based on integration of boost converter as power factor corrector(PFC) and a half-bridge high frequency parallel resonant inverter into a single stage. The input stage of the boost converter is operating in critical conduction mode for positive and negative half cycle voltage respectively at line frequency(60Hz). So that a boost converter makes the line current follow naturally the sinusoidal line voltage waveform. The simulated and experimental results for 100W fluorescent lamps operating at 42kHz switching frequency and 220V line voltage have been obtained. This proposed inverter will be able to be practically used as a power supply in various fields as induction heating applications, fluorescent lamp and DC-DC converter etc.
In this paper, a unified control strategy using the current space vector modulation (CSVM) technique is proposed and applied to a bidirectional three-phase DC/AC converter. The operation of the converter changes with the direction of the power flow. In the charging mode, it works as a buck type rectifier; and during the discharging mode, it operates as a boost type inverter, which makes it suitable as an interface between high voltage AC grids and low voltage energy storage devices. This topology has the following advantages: high conversion efficiency, high power factor at the grid side, tight control of the charging current and fast transition between the charging and discharging modes. The operating principle of the mode analysis, the gate signal generation, the general control strategy and the transition from a constant current (CC) to a constant voltage (CV) in the charging mode are discussed. The proposed control strategy has been validated by simulations and experimental results obtained with a 1kW laboratory prototype using supercapacitors as an energy storage device.
