PURPOSES : The aim of this article is to compare and identify eco-friendly competitiveness between (regional) motorway and high-speed rail(HSR) from the perspective of $CO_2$ emission in the Republic of Korea. METHODS : In order for an analysis of low-carbon competitiveness between the two modes, $CO_2e$ emission, $CO_2eppk$ (equivalent $CO_2$ gram per passenger kilometer), is employed as a comparison index. As for HSR, the index is calculated based on the passenger transport data and the gross of $CO_2e$ produced by Kyungbu high-speed line in 2013. Additionally, the gross of $CO_2e$ is computed by the greenhouse gas emission factors of domestic electricity generation mix. Regarding the index of motorway, it is directly calculated using both the official $CO_2e$ emission factor and the passenger-car occupancy of motorway. RESULTS : The results revealed, in the case of inter-regional transport, that the $CO_2e$ emission of displacement-based cars is 54.9% less than that of HSR, as the domestic electric power systems heavily relies on the thermal power plants over 66%. Note that internal combustion engines commonly used for vehicles are more energy-efficient than steam-driven turbines usually utilized for thermal power generation. CONCLUSIONS : It can be seen, at the very least in our study, that HSR has no superiority over motorway in the case of $CO_2e$ emission under the situations of domestic electricity generation mix. In addition, advanced eco-friendly vehicles have strong advantages over HSR. Therefore, all-out efforts should be made to develop and harvest renewable energy sources in order to achieve low-carbon HSR, sparing fossil fuels.
In this paper, we analyze the components and trends of carbon emissions using the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition method in Korean electricity industry during the period 1991~2007. In the demand side, carbon emissions are affected by electricity intensity and structural shift and especially electricity intensity is identified as the major factor which has lead carbon emissions decreasing. In the supply side, the result in variations of carbon emission for electric power generation depends on the influences of fossil fuel mix, fuel intensity, generation mix and so on. As a result fuel intensity is the most negative effect on both carbon emission intensity and the amount of carbon emission while the change of generation mix has a positive effect on increasing carbon emissions. And to conclude it needs to make the strategic policies to improve electricity intensity in the demand and to rise emission efficiency as well as to substitute thermal power generation in supply side.
The purpose of this paper is to derive fuel mix of electricity generating system with the lowest cost considering energy security and climate change mitigations as the target of energy policy. Energy Security Price Index(ESPI), based on the measure of market concentration in fossil fuel market and political risk of exporting countries, is chosen to assess the level of energy security. The methodology of Energy Conservation Supply Curve(CSC) is applied to fuel mix to meet the carbon emission mitigation through increasing the alternatives participation and introduction of new technologies. These also represent an improvement on the level of energy security, having the complementarity between two objectives. The alternative measure for improving energy security is exploration and production(E&P) of fossil fuel for energy sufficiency. Fuel mix of electricity generating system to achieve certain objectives in 2020 can be derived with the lowest cost considering energy security and carbon emission mitigations.
Various pros and cons are raised as to the nuclear and renewable power portions. In order to generate scientific, objective, and comparative data, this study reviewed energy policies of some countries and derived 34 possible energy mix scenarios depending on the nuclear portion, the renewable portion and the make-up power sources. For each scenario, the unit electricity cost was calculated using the BLMP (Base Load Marginal Price) and SMP (System Marginal Price) methodology, which is currently adopted in Korean electricity market. The unit electricity cost for the current energy mix was 22.18 Won/kWh and those fir other scenarios spreaded from 19.74 to 164.07 Won/kWh excluding the transmission costs and profits of the electric utility companies. Generally, the increased nuclear power portion leads reduction in the unit electricity cost while the trend is reversed in the renewable power portion. Notable observation is that when the renewable power portion exceeds 20%, as the scenario cannot enjoy the benefit of cheap base load, the unit electricity cost at low demand time zone is increased.
Recently, heating using oil and gas has been continuously replaced by that using midnight power in home, due to increase of oil price. Therefore, midnight power apparatus has been more and more spreading. However, cost of midnight power services is increasing because high fuel cost of generation facilities by existing power generation mix are charge of midnight power services. This paper analyzes trends about rapidly increasing midnight power in winter, and evaluate load pattern and supply cost of midnight power. Also, this study proposes rate direction of midnight power according to introduction of competitiveness system with B/C evaluation of midnight power cost.
Cameroon is a lower middle-income country with a population of 25.87 million inhabitants distributed over a surface area of 475,442 ㎢. Cameroon has very rich potentials in renewable energy resources such as solar energy, wind energy, small hydropower, geothermal energy and biomass. However, renewable energy constitutes less than 0.1% of energy mix of the country. The energy generation mix of Cameroon is dominated by large hydropower and thermal power. Cameroon ratified the Paris Agreement in July 2016 with an ambitious 20% greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction. This study attempts to investigate some renewable energy deployment policy-instruments that could enable the country enhance renewable energy deployment, gain energy independence, fulfill Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and achieve Sustainable Development Goals. It begins with an analysis of the status of energy sector in Cameroon. It further highlights the importance of renewable energy in mitigating climate change by decarbonizing the energy mix of the country to fulfill NDC and SDGs. Moreover, this study proposes some renewable energy deployment policy-solutions to the government. Solar energy is the most feasible renewable energy source in Cameroon. Feed-in Tariffs (FiT), is the best renewable energy support policy for Cameroon. Finally, this study concludes with some recommendations such as the necessity of building an Energy Storage System as well a renewable energy information and statistics infrastructure.
Due the globalization trends of industry environment, not only fashion companies of the developed countries but also those of NICs and the developing countries are pursuing to globalize their businesses. This study was conducted (i) to identify the characteristics of international marketing mix of Korean fashion companies operating in oversea fashion markets and (ii) to analyze the performance of Korean fashion companies related to international marketing mix. The data were collected from inter-Korean fashion enterprises. A questionnaire was distributed to a person in charge of international division/international trade division who doing business in domestic market and a person in charge of a local subsidiary in oversea market. The methods of analysis used in this study were factor analysis, cluster analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows: First, according to factor analysis and cluser analysis, Korean fashion companies were classified in four (4) clusters. The fashion companies in Cluster I put their priority on price. The companies in Cluster II are traditional fashion companies which have relatively low power of product and price. The companies in Cluster III put their priority on product, and the companies in Cluster IV put their priority on local market. Second, according to ANOVA, a growth rate of sales make significant difference among 4 clusters and Clusters II and III were comparatively high in performance.

Every effort is now being exerted in industrialized and developing countries to reduce emission of greenhouse gases from electric power sector. In this paper, we provide supply-side resource mix strategies in the long-term generation expansion planning under the expected greenhouse gas regulations. Under the environmental regulations, we explore the least-cost generation expansion plan of Korea and determine the composition of future resource mixes. Our analysis is performed on the basis of the revised WASP package which can evaluate emission of carbon dioxide from each power plant. The evaluation process of carbon dioxide emissions, which can consider the efficiency and operating conditions of each generator simultaneously, has been incorporated into the probabilistic production cost simulation module of WASP.
