Efficient Power-Saving 10-Gb/s ONU Using Uplink Usage-Dependent Sleep Mode Control Algorithm in WDM-PON

  • We propose and demonstrate an efficient power-saving optical network unit (ONU) based on upstream traffic monitoring for 10-Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM-PONs). The power-saving mode controller uses a ${\mu}$-processor and traffic monitoring modules followed by the proposed power-saving processes to operate the sleep mode ONU. The power consumption of the ONU is effectively reduced from 19.3 W to 6.4 W when no traffic from the users is detected. In addition, we design a power-saving mechanism based on a cyclic sleep mode operation to allow a connectivity check between the optical line terminal and ONU. Our calculation results show that the WDM-PON ONU reduces the power consumption by around 60% using the proposed mechanism.

공압 실린더 및 단순 링크기구를 이용한 충돌 보행자 보호 장치에 관한 연구 (Study on Pedestrian Protection device in collision using Pneumatic cylinder and simple link mechanism)

  • This study is on pedestrian protection device using pneumatic cylinder and simple link mechanism when vehicle collide with pedestrian. This study ensured the safety space between engine and hood after it applies to simple link mechanism and pneumatic cylinder. It can absorb the damage which measure the specific device if vehicle collide with pedestrian. Combination of simple link mechanism and pneumatic cylinder was more superior than the present pedestrian protection device. Simple link mechanism could confirm superior height and survival probability than when only cylinder operated. It also ensured enough space between engine and hood. And if a cylinder is not working because of old cylinder, poor repair or damage of accident vertical cylinder would be difficult to execute because there exists the irregular space between engine and hood. If simple link mechanism operates with only one cylinder it could ensure the regular space because simple link mechanism set up at the middle of hood. So this device could confirm high safety for pedestrian.

Mechanism Analysis and Stabilization of Three-Phase Grid-Inverter Systems Considering Frequency Coupling

  • Frequency coupling in the phase domain is a recently reported phenomenon for phase locked loop (PLL) based three-phase grid-inverter systems. This paper investigates the mechanism and stabilization method for the frequency coupling to the stability of grid-inverter systems. Self and accompanying admittance models are employed to represent the frequency coupling characteristics of the inverter, and a small signal equivalent circuit of a grid-inverter system is set up to reveal the mechanism of the frequency coupling to the system stability. The analysis reveals that the equivalent inverter admittance is changed due to the frequency coupling of the inverter, and the system stability is affected. In the end, retuning the bandwidth of the phase locked loop is presented to stabilize the three-phase grid-inverter system. Experimental results are given to verify the analysis and the stabilization scheme.

  • In this paper, an EMM(Equivalent Mechanical Model) is developed to explain the voltage collapse mechanism by reflecting the effects of reactive powers. The proposed EMM exactly represents the voltage instability mechanism described by the system equations. By the use of the EMM model the voltage collapse mechanism has been illustrated by showing the exactness of the results. It is also discussed a system transform in technique to eliminate the resistance component of the Thevenin equivalent impedance for practical applications.

  • Turbine power control devices at a nuclear / thermoelectric power plant lead to failure by creating mechanical shocks and strong vibrations that are due to the strong elasticity of a spring and the inertia of the valve face during its rapid movement to block steam. To ensure durability of the turbine power control device, which is the main component in the power plant, it is necessary to develop a device that can prevent such vibrations. In this study, a cushion mechanism is added to the head of the hydraulic servo actuator, which is a turbine power control device. Moreover, the cushion mechanism, which includes various modifies shapes and orifices is investigated dynamically through modeling and simulations.

  • This paper deals with the design of power topology for nuclear power plants. Although rod control system is still classified into non-safety class. much attention on its reliability issue has been given so far because of its importance for the stable operation of the reactor in the plant. In terms of technical aspects, proposed design is reviewed to satisfy system requirements. This paper deals with a design of power topology for driving Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) that is used to withdraw or insert control rods in nuclear reactor.

  • The improvement of load following operation of the thermal power plant is influenced to the electrical quality. Analysis of boiler, turbine, and governor system, and the study of control algorithm are preceded. The thermal power plant is operated by various control systems. In the case of faulty governor system, it takes long days to solve the problem and impossible to repair the mechanism without outage. A non-planned out-age is taken into consideration because of economical power production. In this paper, to clear the continuous swings of an old turbine governor system(YEOSU #1), the trend, the control logic, and the hydraulic mechanism are analyzed, and then the control circuit with ADAPT function and the 1st order lag circuit are inserted and modified. After that, the power plant comes to automatic governor control operation.

  • In this paper, we describe a Duplex Power Controller for Control Rod Control System(CRCS). A Duplex Power Controller has the various functions for the reliable operations of Control Rod Drive Mechanism(CRDM). Also we have implemented the diverse functions by utilizing the developed Duplex Power Controller. Due to the developed Duplex Power Controller, we are assured that the commercial operation by this system be made before long.

  • Mobile Ad hoc networking is an emerging technology and in these days many applications are being developed to run on these networks. In these networks lookup services are very important because all nodes do not have same resources in term of memory and computing power. Nodes need to use different services offered by different servers. Reliable and efficient scheme should be available for lookup services due to limited bandwidth and low computing power of devices in mobile ad hoc networks. Due to mobility and rapid change in network topology, lookup mechanism used in wired network is not appropriate. Service discovery mechanism can be divided into two main categories Centralized and Distributed. Centralized mechanism is not reliable as there is no central node in these networks. Secondly centralized mechanism leads toward single point failure. We can handle the service discovery mechanism by distributing server's information to each node. But this approach is also not appropriate due to limited bandwidth and rapid change in network. In this paper, we present reliable lookup service scheme which is based on distributed mechanism. We are not using replication approach as well due to low bandwidth of wireless networks. In this scheme service discovery mechanism will be handled through different lookup servers. Reliability is the key feature of our proposed scheme.
