In order to prevent the belt from being damaged by metal pieces, we developed multicoil-type metal detection system. This detects the presence of belt clips and position of metal pieces in ores being transported on conveyor belt. In this research, our coil sensor of multicoil-type metal detection system is divided into two parts, exciting part (transmitter coil) and sensing part composed of two receiver coils. Each receiver coil has several coils in the direction of belt width. Multicoil-type metal detection system is operated by supplying a transmitter coil with electric power resources to generate magnetic field, and then the change of magnetic flux resulted from a metal piece on the conveyor be a is induced into sensing coils. We can prevent detector from failing to catch metal pieces due to high threshold level produced by steel belt clips and male the sensitivity of belt-width direction uniform by using multicoil-type metal detection system. Besides, this developed system can recognize precise position and size of metal piece. The experiments shows that our multicoil-type metal detection system has better performances than the conventional metal piece detector.

The new islanding detection method using wavelet energy is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the autocorrelation of the wavelet energies, which is obtained from the high-frequency components of the grid voltage. It has the enhanced detection capabilities in the UV/OV/UF/OF region, which the conventional passive methods cannot obtain. The mathematical theories on the wavelet are presented, and the performance effectiveness is proved by the experimental results.

Power quality has become concern both utilities and their customers with wide spread use of electronic and power electronic equipment. The poor quality of electric power causes malfunctions, instabilities and shorter lifetime of the load. In power system operation, power system disturbances such as faults, overvoltage, capacitor switching transients, harmonic distortion and impulses affects power quality. For diagnosing power quality problem, the causes of the disturbances should be understood before appropriate actions can be taken. In this paper we present a new approach to detect, localize, and investigate the feasibility of classifying various types of power quality disturbances. This paper deals with the use of a multi-resolution analysis by a discrete wavelet transform to detect power system disturbances such as interruption, sag, swell, transients, etc. We also proposed do-noising and threshold technique to detect power system disturbances in a noisy environment. To find the better mother wavelet for detecting disturbances, we compared the performance of the disturbance detection with the several mother wavelets such as Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets and Biorthogonals wavelets. In our analysis, we adopt db4 wavelet as mother wavelet because it shows better results for detecting several disturbances than other mother wavelets. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, a various case studies are simulated for the example system which is constructed by using PSCAD/EMTDC. From the simulation results. proposed method detects time Points of the start and end time of the disturbances.
In order to detect the current flowing through concealed conductor, this paper proposes a new method based on derivative method. Firstly, this paper analyzes the main peak characteristic of the derivative function of magnetic field generated by a current-carrying conductor, and a relationship between the current flowing through the conductor and the main peak of the derivative function is obtained and applied to calculate the current. Then, the method is applied to detect the conductor current flowing through grounding grids of substations. Finally, the numerical experimental and field experiment verified the feasibility and accuracy of the method, and the computing results show that the method can effectively measure the conductor current of grounding grids with low error, and the error is within 5 %.

There is a little research on DC arc detection when compared to a large number of literature and patents on AC arc detection. However, as DC energy sources such as photovoltaic power generation facilities and fuel cells are introduced, research on DC arc has become as important as AC arc detection in terms of circuit protection and system reliability enhancement. In this paper, we have developed an arc detection method for photovoltaic system using frequency analysis. Through various experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method effectively detects the arc.

According to information theory, non-orthogonal transmission can achieve the multiple-user channel capacity with an onion-peeling like successive interference cancellation (SIC) based detection followed by a capacity approaching channel code. However, in multiple antenna system, due to the unideal characteristic of the SIC detector, the residual interference propagated to the next detection stage will significantly degrade the detection performance of spatial data layers. To overcome this problem, we proposed a modified power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (P-NOMA) scheme joint designed with space-time coding for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) NOMA system. First, with proper power allocation for each user, inter-user signals can be separated from each other for NOMA detection. Second, a well-designed quasi-orthogonal space-time block code (QO-STBC) was employed to facilitate the SIC-based MIMO detection of spatial data layers within each user. Last, we proposed an optimization algorithm to assign channel coding rates to balance the bit error rate (BER) performance of those spatial data layers for each user. Link-level performance simulation results demonstrate that the proposed time-space-power domain joint transmission scheme performs better than the traditional P-NOMA scheme. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is of low complexity and easy to implement.

Nowadays, the utilization of renewable energy sources like wind energy is considered one of the most effective means of generating massive amounts of electricity. This is evident in the rapid increase of wind farms all over the world which comprise a huge number of wind turbines. However, the drawback of utilizing wind turbines is that it requires maintenance, which could be a costly operation. To keep the wind turbines in pristine condition so as to reduce downtime, the implementation of CMS (Condition Monitoring System) and FDS (Fault Detection System) is mandatory. The efficiency and accuracy of these systems are crucial in deciding when to carry out a maintenance process. In this paper, a fault detection system based on intelligent clustering method is proposed. Using SCADA data, the clustering model was trained and evaluated for its accuracy through rigorous simulations. Results show that the proposed approach is able to accurately detect the deteriorating condition of a wind turbine as it nears a downtime period.

This paper proposes a new islanding detection method for a grid-connected photovoltaic system. It is based on the fact that the equivalent harmonic components vary according to the grid connection status. The advantage of the proposed method is the reduced Non-Detection Zone and fast detection time. Also it can have the robust detection capability against grid disturbances. The theoretic analysis using grid-harmonic modeling is performed and verified by test result using 32-bit high performance DSP processor.

A light-emitting diode (LED) has been increasingly applied to various industrial fields and general lightings because of its high efficiency, low power consumption, environment-friendly characteristic and long lifetime. To drive this LED lighting, various types of power converters have been applied. Also, power factor correction (PFC) techniques play an important role in the power supply technology. In this paper, design and control of a DCM interleaved boost PFC converter is discussed. The proposed converter can reduce current ripples at input and output side by cancelling an each phase of inductor currents. Since the IC does not require the auxiliary winding of inductor for current detection, simple PFC circuit is achieved. Therefore, it contributes to increase efficiency and downsize the whole system volume, cost. Also, the performance of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments.
The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of this device during clinically important episodes of extravasation. The extravasation detection accessory (EDA) system was based of infrared ray with detection sensor, an amplifier, alarm device, receiver, cable and a computer based system. This study was a prospective, observational study in which the EDA system was used to monitor the automated mechanical injection of contrast media. Three hundred patients referred for contrast media enhanced body computed tomography studied in a prospective, observation study in which the EDA system was used to identify and interrupt any injection associated with clinically important extravasation. There were 8 true-positive cases, 276 true-negative cases, 15 false-positive cases and 1 false-negative cases. The EDA system had a sensitivity of 88.8% and a specificity of 94.8% for the detection of clinically important extravasation. The EDA system had good sensitivity for the detection of clinically important extravasation and the EDA system has the clinical potential for the early detection of extravasation of the contrast medium that is administered with power injectors.
