  • In this paper, we propose a slot scheduling algorithm for balancing power consumption in tree-based sensor networks. In this type of networks, nodes with lower depths tend to consume more energy than those with higher depths, thereby reducing the life time of the network. The proposed algorithm allocates a series of receiving slots first and then a series of sending slots. This way of slot allocation eases packet aggregation and filtering, and thus reduces traffic load on nodes near a sink. We compare the proposed algorithm and the frame-slot allocation algorithm employed in the TreeMAC by resorting to simulation. The simulation results showed that the proposed approach well achieves the balancing of power consumption.

  • In this paper, we present a reducing power consumption of a scheduling for reuse module selection under the time constraint. Traditional high-level synthesis do not allow reuse of complex, realistic datapath component during the task of scheduling. On the other hand, the proposed scheduling of reducing power consumption is able to approach a productivity of the design the low power to reuse which given a library of user-defined datapath component and to share of resource sharing on the switching activity in a shared resource. Also, we are obtainable the optimal the scheduling result in experimental results of our approach various HLS benchmark environment using chaining and multi-cycling in the scheduling techniques.

  • This paper proposes a MAC protocol for sensor networks such as disaster detection system which generate the non-periodic packet. B-MAC has been used to solve delay problem for sensor networks, however, the power loss occurs due to excessive preamble and over-hearing. In contrast, S-MAC has a number of drawbacks in power consumption due to synchronization. In this paper, we propose H-MAC and analyze its performance which has improved power consumption compared to S-MAC and overhead and over-hearing compared to B-MAC.

  • Environmental monitoring systems using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) face the challenge of high power consumption, due to the high levels of multi-hop data communication involved. In order to overcome the issue of fast energy depletion, a proof-of-concept implementation proves that adopting a clustering algorithm in environmental monitoring applications will significantly reduce the total power consumption for environment sensor nodes. In this paper, an energy-efficient WSN-based environmental monitoring system is proposed and implemented, using eight sensor nodes deployed over an area of $1km^2$, which took place in the city of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. The effectiveness of the proposed environmental monitoring system has been demonstrated through adopting a number of real experimental studies.

  • It is practical nowadays to automate data recording in order to prevent loss and tampering of records. There are existing technologies that satisfy this needs and one of them is wireless sensor networks (WSN). Wireless body sensor networks (WBSN) are wireless networks and information-processing systems which are deployed to monitor medical condition of patients. In terms of performance, WBSNs are restricted by energy, and communication between nodes. In this paper, we focused in improving the performance of communication to achieve less energy consumption and to save power. The main idea of this paper is to prioritize nodes that exhibit a sudden change of vital signs that could put the patient at risk. Cluster head is the main focus of this study in order to be effective; its main role is to check the sent data of the patient that exceeds threshold then transfer to the sink node. The proposed scheme implemented added a time-based protocol to sleep/wakeup mechanism for the sensor nodes. We seek to achieve a low energy consumption and significant throughput in this study.

  • A novel linear switched termination active cross-coupled low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transceiver operating at 1.5 GHz clock frequency is presented. On the transmitter side, an active cross-coupled linear output driver and a switched termination scheme are applied to achieve high speed with low current. On the receiver side, a shared pre-amplifier scheme is employed to reduce power consumption. The proposed LVDS transceiver implemented in an 80 nm CMOS process is successfully demonstrated to provide a data rate of 6 Gbps/pin, an output data window of 147 ps peak-to-peak, and a data swing of 196 mV. The power consumption is measured to be 4.2 mW/pin at 1.2 V.

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a platform-based SoC of a 32-bit smart card. The smart card uses a 32-bit microprocessor for high performance and two cryptographic processors for high security. It supports both contact and contactless interfaces, which comply with ISO/IEC 7816 and 14496 Type B. It has a Java Card OS to support multiple applications. We modeled smart card readers with a foreign language interface for efficient verification of the smart card SoC. The SoC was implemented using 0.25 ${\mu}m$ technology. To reduce the power consumption of the smart card SoC, we applied power optimization techniques, including clock gating. Experimental results show that the power consumption of the RSA and ECC cryptographic processors can be reduced by 32% and 62%, respectively, without increasing the area.

  • Recently, the electric power consumption concentrated in specific seasons and time causes the unstable power supply. To resolve this problem, smart grid has emerged as an alternative to consume the power, efficiently. Smart grid that combines ICT with the existing electrical grid includes demand response as a core technology. Demand response enable the power consumption effectively by offering a variety of informations, such as power consumption, charges expected, etc., for consumers who voluntarily participate in the electricity markets. In this paper, we design the automatic demand response systems based on SEP 2.0 for the efficient power control of home appliances in the smart grid environments.

  • In this paper, the energy saving on mobile communication repeater is studied. DB(Dual Band) small repeater, which is currently used in the field for indoor coverage, is adopted as a test unit. For reducing the power consumption, PFC (Power Factor Correction) is included on SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supply) of the DB small repeater. The test results show that approximately 38.9% of the power consumption is reduced comparing with the repeater without PFC. It means that approximately 230.43kWh per unit can be saved annually.

  • With the massive demand and growth of cloud computing, virtualization plays an important role in providing services to end-users efficiently. However, with the increase in services over Cloud Computing, it is becoming more challenging to manage and run multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) in Cloud Computing because of excessive power consumption. It is thus important to overcome these challenges by adopting an efficient technique to manage and monitor the status of VMs in a cloud environment. Reduction of power/energy consumption can be done by managing VMs more effectively in the datacenters of the cloud environment by switching between the active and inactive states of a VM. As a result, energy consumption reduces carbon emissions, leading to green cloud computing. The proposed Efficient Dynamic VM Scheduling approach minimizes Service Level Agreement (SLA) violations and manages VM migration by lowering the energy consumption effectively along with the balanced load. In the proposed work, VM Scheduling for Efficient Dynamically Migrated VM (VMS-EDMVM) approach first detects the over-utilized host using the Modified Weighted Linear Regression (MWLR) algorithm and along with the dynamic utilization model for an underutilized host. Maximum Power Reduction and Reduced Time (MPRRT) approach has been developed for the VM selection followed by a two-phase Best-Fit CPU, BW (BFCB) VM Scheduling mechanism which is simulated in CloudSim based on the adaptive utilization threshold base. The proposed work achieved a Power consumption of 108.45 kWh, and the total SLA violation was 0.1%. The VM migration count was reduced to 2,202 times, revealing better performance as compared to other methods mentioned in this paper.
