Quality Changes in Winter Chinese Cabbage with Various Storage Methods (저장 조건에 따른 월동배추의 품질 변화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality changes of Chinese cabbage with various storage methods. The V/H ratio, as reference of withering, of Chinese cabbage in PE film was high. Ethanol contents of Chinese cabbage packed with 0.06mm and 0.1mm PE film pouch were greater than that with 0.03mm PE film pouch. Organic acid and sugar contents in the Chinese cabbage were gradually decreased during storage. Chinese cabbage packed with 0.03mm PE film pouch was more adaptable than 0.06mm PE film pouch in winter Chinese cabbage during storage. The CO$_2$ contents in PE film pouch was increased hums 15days of storage, and then not changed during storage. The change of O$_2$ contents in PE film Pouch was opposed to tendency of CO$_2$ change. The 0.06mm and 0.1mm PE film Pouch high CO$_2$ contents and low O$_2$ contents during the storage, were less adaptable than 0.03mm PE film pouch in the winter Chinese cabbage storage.

  • Herein, a novel operating life (OL) test method was evaluated with 200 mAh pouch-type lithium-ion batteries. By combining the calendar life (CL) test with intermediate pulse power cycling, more realistic life prediction was possible, which encompassed real operation of batteries accompanying with thermal acceleration. Larger capacity decrease and resistance increase of pouch cell were observed in the OL test, which was well explained using the SEI film growth model. After dissemble of pouch cell, capacity loss and resistance increase mostly occurred within anode, reflecting that SEI film growth on anode surface was highly attributable to cell degradation.

  • Pouch film is manufactured by laminating aluminum foil, polyamide film and polypropylene film with an adhesive or extrusion resin. However, a surface treatment is required for the aluminum because bonding does not occur easily between the aluminum foil and the polymer film. Thus, for this study, surface treatment experiments were performed in order to confirm the effect on adhesion strength. First, a variety of surface treatment solutions were coated on aluminum foil, and contact angle and surface morphology analysis was carried out for the surface-treated aluminum. For lamination of the surface-treated aluminum foil with polyamide film, a polyurethane base adhesive was prepared for the adhesive strength test specimens. The adhesive strength between the aluminum foil and the polyamide film of the resulting specimens was measured (UTM). With such an experiment, it was possible to evaluate the effect on adhesive strength of the various surface treatments.

Studies on the Adaptability of Home Made Retort Pouch for Food Packaging (국산(國産) Retort Pouch의 식품포장적성(食品包裝適性)에 관한 조사 연구)

  • In order to ascertain the practical possibility of home made retort pouches for production of retort pouch foods in factory, two kinds of retortable pouches, i. e. 3 ply film (polyester film/Al. foil/casting polypropylene) and 4 ply film(polyester film/Al. foil/nylon/casting poll·propylene) were developed in Korea, and then, their physical properties, such as physical strength, heat resistance during thermal processing and preservability of foods and sanitary safety, were tested and compared with the foreign made pouches. The results obtained were summarized as follows. a. The physical strength of home made retort pouches in processing model foods(soybean oil 5 %, acetic acid 2%, starch 5 % and water to 100 %) was equal to that of foreign made pouches at accelerated examination condition($38^{\circ}C$, 98 % RH). But the lamination strength of home made products was a little bit superior to that of foreign made products. b. Home made retort pouches(SAMA-4 ply and SAMA-3 ply pouch) packed with rice or curry was possible to bear the thermal processing at $135^{\circ}C$ and shelf-life was one year or more at ambient temperature($20^{\circ}C$). c. Sanitary safety test showed that these home made retort pouches were acceptable comparing to the regulation recommended by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.

  • Our patient was a 2.3 kg, male of 33 weeks gestation and spontaneous vaginal delivery. Copious salivary secretion, mild aspiration pneumonia episode due to tracheoesophageal fistula and intermittent cyanotic appearance due to hypoxia were noted shortly after birth. Head up position, frequent upper pouch suction, and adequate fluid and antibiotic therapy were done in incubator. Combined Chest and abdominal film was revealed gas in the stomach and an haziness in right chest with mediastinal shift to the right side. Esophagogram revealed markedly dilated proximal esophagus as blind pouch, and Two dimensional echocardiography showed the Ventricular Septal Defect. The conclusion was congenital esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula, Vogt-Gross type C, Waterston Risk Category B. Surgical correction with Beardmore anastomosis was performed extrapleurally through 3rd rib bed after the cannulation of umbilical vein and preliminary gastrostomy. The fistula was closed by triple ligation and the upper pouch was then brought down to the presenting surface of the lower esophageal segment that incised, and end to side anastomosis was underwent using interrupt suture placed through the full thickness of both upper pouch and lower esophageal segment. The postoperative patient was well tolerated and recovered uneventfully, permitted feeding on 7th postoperative day after esophagogram.

  • The changes in hydration of brown rice, Chu-chung byeo(Japonica type) were determined during storage at different storage temperatures($4^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$, 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 4$0^{\circ}C$) in a 4-layered laminated film pouch(PET 12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/AI-foil 7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/o-Nylon 15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/L-Mix100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). At the beginning of storage, the hydration rate of brown rice increased with higher soaking temperature, and the activation energy of hydration was 10.3kcal/mole. Water diffusion coefficient of brown rice due to storage temperature during storage at 3$0^{\circ}C$ of soaking temperature was decreased by the elapse of storage periods and increment of storage temperature(below 3$0^{\circ}C$). ).

  • Model predicting the respiration rate of pear under modified LDPE film pouch has been developed. The assumptions of the model have three bases; 1) respiration rate is depending on $CO_2$ and $O_2$ concentration in the package, 2) the oxidation of glucose in pear generates carbon dioxides, and 3) gases permeation through the package film bases on the Langmuir adsorption theory and Fick's law. The simulated results agreed fairly well with the experimental data so as this model to be useful in designing the modified atmospheric packaging system.

  • Al-laminated packaging film incorporating ascorbic acid or tocopherol at inner food contact layer was tested in the potential to improve antioxidative preservation of powdered infant formula under CO2-enriched atmosphere. Product of 200 g was packaged with the packaging film containing 0.3% antioxidant in sealant layer of low density polyethylene and stored at 30℃ for 286 days with periodic measurement of package atmosphere and product's quality attributes. The CO2-flushed package resulted in shrinkage of tight contact between the product and the film not allowing gas sampling of package atmosphere after 140 days. Package of tocopherol-incorporated film allowed some ingress of oxygen after 112 days presumably due to its weakening of heat-seal area. The increased oxygen concentration in the tocopherol-added film package led to the concomitant increase of peroxide value, an index of lipid oxidation. On the other hand, packaging of ascorbic acid-added film pouch could suppress lipid oxidation marginally in consistent manner compared to control package without any antioxidant.

Storage Trial of Preliminary Processed Peach (복숭아 일차가공품(一次加工品)의 저장성(貯藏性)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • To enable off-season peach canning, peaches were halved and processed into solid packs. Following variables were compared in relation to storage stability of solid packs. First as pretreatment-dipping in citric and ascorbic solution after lye peeling; second as pasturization in pouch and hot fill process; third as packaging method-2 ply(PET/PE) and 3 ply(PET/Al/PE) plastic film pouch and metal container; fourth as storage condition $-20^{\circ}C\;and\;-5^{\circ}C$. After 25 weeks storage test, all peaches in different packs were processed into canned peaches just like commercial products, and then quality was organoleptically evaluated from the viewpoint of processing and storage variable of solid packs. The results are follows; 1. Ascorbic acid dipping in 3 ply pouch and citric acid dipping in 2 ply pouch had better quality retention effect than any other pretreatments in respective packing. 2. Pasteurization method gave great effect on the color and texture of the solid pack during storage, but not on the quality of the final canned peach. 3. Can and 3 ply packing were better than 2 ply pouch in storage of solid pack and quality of final canned peach. 4. The $5^{\circ}C$ storage gave better quality than $20^{\circ}C$.

Duplication of the Esophagus -Report of A Case- (식도중복증의 1례)

  • Duplication of the alimentary tract, especially of the esophagus, have been regarded as rare cong- enital anomalies. However, they are being reported with increasing frequency in the literature. In the . ,- past they have been described by a variety of names, such as "enteric cysts", "intestinal cysts", "giant diverticula", "`mediastinal cysts of foregut origin" "enterogenous cysts" and other descriptive terms. . Most authorities now agree that these anomalies are best described by the term "duplications of the alimentary tract. The duplications [of the alimentary tract] are spherical or tubular structures which poses a well developed smooth muscle layer and are lined with a mucous membrane from any part of the alimentary tract. They may occur at any place in the digestive tube from the tongue to the rectum and usually are intimately attached to some portion of the alimentary tube. We have experienced a duplication of the esophagus in 14 years old middle schoolboy. He complained dysphagia, eructation and substernal pain associated with intermittent high fever and chilliness, increasing in severity for recent three weeks. Routine chest X-ray film revealed nore markable abnormal finding but esophagogram. revealed marked narrowing of the esophagus throughout with a large blind pouch in lower half with fistulous communication at mid portion of the esophagus. On thoracotomy, a large infected blind pouch communicating with the lumen of normal esophagus proximally, Was extended from the level of 5th to 10th thoracic spine. The duplicated segment of the esophagus has a common muscular .wall and proximal communication with the adjacent esophagus. The infected, duplicated esophagus was segmentally resected, and esophagogastrostomy with pyloroplasty was done by displacing the stomach into the right thoracic cavity through midline laparotomy. His Postoperative course was uneventful and discharged without complication.
