  • This paper has been presented the transport characteristics of FinFET using the analytical potential model based on the Poisson's equation in subthreshold and threshold region. The threshold voltage is the most important factor of device design since threshold voltage decides ON/OFF of transistor. We have investigated the variations of threshold voltage and drain induced barrier lowing according to the variation of geometry such as the length, width and thickness of channel. The analytical potential model derived from the three dimensional Poisson's equation has been used since the channel electrostatics under threshold and subthreshold region is governed by the Poisson's equation. The appropriate boundary conditions for source/drain and gates has been also used to solve analytically the three dimensional Poisson's equation. Since the model is validated by comparing with the three dimensional numerical simulation, the subthreshold current is derived from this potential model. The threshold voltage is obtained from calculating the front gate bias when the drain current is $10^{-6}A$.

  • We have observed the short-channel effect, narrow-channel effect and small-geometry effect in terms of a variation of the threshold voltage. For a short-channel effect the threshold voltage was largely determined by the DIBL effect which stimulates more carrier injection in the channel by reducing the potential barrier between the source and channel. The effect becomes more significant for a shorter-channel device. However, the potential, field and current density distributions in the channel along the transverse direction showed a better uniformity for shorter-channel devices under the same voltage conditions. The uniformity of the current density distribution near the drain on the potential minimum point becomes worse with increasing the drain voltage due to the enhanced DIBL effect. This means that considerations for channel-width effect should be given due to the variation of the channel distributions for short-channel devices. For CCDs which are always operated at a pinch-off state the channel uniformity thus becomes significant since they often use a device structure with a channel length of > 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a very high drain (or diffusion) voltage. • In this paper, we propose a simple and relative electrode contact monitoring method. By exploiting the power line interference, which is regarded as one of the worst noise sources for bio-potential measurement, the relative difference in electrode impedance can be measured without a current or voltage source. Substantial benefits, including no extra circuit components, no degradation of the body potential driving circuit, and no electrical safety problem, can be achieved using this method. Furthermore, this method can be applied to multi-channel isolated bio-potential measurement systems and home health care devices under a steady measuring environment.

  • A simplified and effective space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) algorithm with two and three levels for three-phase voltage-source converters is proposed in this study. The proposed SVPWM algorithm only uses several linear calculations on three-phase modulated voltages without any complicated trigonometric calculations adopted by conventional SVPWM. This simplified SVPWM also avoids choosing the vector sector required by conventional SVPWM. A two-level overmodulation scheme is integrated into the proposed two-level SVPMW to generate the output voltage that increases from a linear region to a six-step state with a smoothly linear transition characteristic and a simple overmodulation process without a lookup table and complicated nonlinear functions. The three-level SVPWM with a proportional-integral controller effectively balances the neutral point potential of the neutral point clamped converter. Results from the simulation in MATLAB/Simulink and the experiment based on a digital signal processor are provided to clearly demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed strategies.

  • This paper proposes a novel direct power control (DPC) strategy for neutral-point-clamped (NPC) three-level rectifiers, to directly control the active power, the reactive power and the neutral point potential of the rectifiers by referring to three pre-calculated vector influence tables and minimizing an objective function. In the three vector influence tables, the influences of different voltage vectors on the active power, the reactive power and the neutral-point potential are shown explicitly. A conceptual description and control algorithm of the proposed controller are presented in this paper. Then, numerical simulations and experiments are carried out to validate the proposed method. Both the simulation and experimental results show that good performances during both the steady-state and transient operating conditions are achieved. As a result, the proposed strategy has been proven to be effective for NPC three-level rectifiers.

  • In general, forecast tsunami heights announced for tsunami warning are computed by using a linear tsunami model with coarse grids which leads the underestimation of inundation area. Thus, an accurate tsunami inundation map corresponding to the forecast tsunami height is indispensible for an emergency evacuation plan. A practical way to construct a relatively accurate tsunami inundation map was proposed in this study for the quantitative forecast of inundation area. This procedure can be introduced as in the followings: The fault dislocations of potential tsunami sources generating a specific tsunami height near an interested area are found by using a linear tsunami model. Based on these fault dislocations, maximum inundation envelops of the interested area are computed and illustrated by using nonlinear inundation numerical model. In this study, the tsunami inundation map for Imwon area was constructed according to 11 potential tsunami sources, and the validity of this process was examined.

  • Android application is vulnerable to reverse engineering attack. And by this, it is easy to extract significant module from source code and repackage it. To prevent this problem, dynamic class loading technique, which is able to exclude running code from distributed source code and is able to load running code dynamically during runtime can be used. Recently, this technique was adapted on variety of fields and applications like updating pre-loaded android application, preventing from repacking malicious application, etc. Despite the fact that this technique is used on variety of fields and applications, there is fundamental lack on the study of potential weakness or related secure coding. This paper would deal with potential weaknesses during the implementation of dynamic class loading technique with analysing related international/domestic standard of weaknesses and suggest a secure way for the implementation of dynamic class loading technique. Finally, we believe that this technique described here could increase the level of trust by decreasing the weakness related to dynamic class loading technique.

  • The nematicidal, antifungal and antioxidant activities of methanol extracts from six Vietnamese native medicinal plants were evaluated by various assays in vitro. Of the plant extracts tested, Terminalia nigrovenulosa was found to possess the highest activity when compared to the others. The leaves and bark of T. nigrovenulosa showed strong inhibitory activity against Meloidogyne incognita and Fusarium solani. The DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging, reducing power and total antioxidant activities of T. nigrovenulosa bark were higher than that of the remainder plant extracts. Chitinase activity of these plants was also investigated using SDS-PAGE. The results obtained in the present study indicate that T. nigrovenulosa leaf extracts are the greatest potential source as nematicides and fungicides for the control of M. incognita and F. solani. In particularly, T. nigrovenulosa bark extracts could be used as a potential source of commercially viable levels of natural antioxidant.

  • Light emitting diodes (LEDs) which can produce uniform luminescence need a very difficult and complex procedure because LEDs have strong and straight optical property. One of the major parameters for LED production is the determination of the viewing angle. However, in the present, there is still no available production technology to measure LED viewing angle and optical property. In this study, we developed a five-side LED viewing angle and optical property measurement system, having a source meter that uses a high speed switching photo relay instead of a mercury relay. This new measurement system can measure the viewing angle at a very high accuracy of ${\pm}0.66^{\circ}$. This new technology presents a great potential for fast and reliable LED mass production, which can significantly cut down the cost from savings in production time.
