Post-purchase Customer Choice Model for Subscription-based Information and Telecommunications Services (가입형 정보통신 서비스의 구매 후 고객선택모형)

  • With the advances in information technologies and the wide acceptance of IT outsourcing practices, subscription-based information & telecommunications services(ITS) become more available. Convergence and intensified industry competition have made it an imperative for the ITS providers to keep their current customers and acquire new customers at the same time. In this study, we developed a framework for effective customer management based on the factors influencing the post-purchase customer choice: stay with the present provider or switch to another one. Specifically, we classified the factors into four categories: Holding factors, Defect factors, Inducement factors, and Hurdle factors depending on the characteristics of the influence and direction of the influence. Based on the classification, we developed a post-purchase customer choice model for the subscription-based ITS providers. Then, we illustrated a possible application of the model in the context of the broadband Internet access service. The model could be used to increase the competitive advantage of service providers through the effective customer management in the subscription-based ITS market.

Speech Intelligibility of Alaryngeal Voices and Pre/Post Operative Evaluation of Voice Quality using the Speech Recognition Program(HUVOIS) (음성인식프로그램을 이용한 무후두 음성의 말 명료도와 병적 음성의 수술 전후 개선도 측정)

  • Background and Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine objectively pre and post operative voice quality evaluation and intelligibility of alaryngeal voice using speech recognition program, HUVOIS. Materials and Methods : 2 laryngologists and 1 speech pathologist were evaluated 'G', 'R', 'B' in the GRBAS sclae and speech intelligibility using NTID rating scale from standard paragraph. And also acoustic estimates such as jitter, shimmer, HNR were obtained from Lx Speech Studio. Results : Speech recognition rate was not significantly different between pre and post operation for pathological vocie samples though voice quality(G, B) and acoustic values(Jitter, HNR) were significantly improved after post operation. In Alaryngeal voices, reed type electrolarynx 'Moksori' was the highest both speech intelligibility and speech recognition rate, whereas esophageal speech was the lowest. Coefficient correlation of speech intelligibility and speech recognition rate was found in alaryngeal voices, but not in pathological voices. Conclusion : Current study was not proved speech recognition program, HUVOIS during telephone program was not objective and efficient method for assisting subjective GRBAS scale.

  • In controlling chronic intractable pains, the current therapeutic methods used are exercise, over the counter medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy, opioid medication, neural blockade, operation, etc., spinal cord stimulation being the last resort. Spinal cord stimulation was initiated when Shearly and others clinically tested the Gate control theory of Melzack and Wall. This had triggered the advancement of theoretic research on the mechanism and hardware necessary and has resulted in an accumulation of clinical experiences. This is known to be effective for treating sympathetic pain, arachnoiditis, failed back pain syndrome, radiculopathy, peripheral vascular disease, phantom limb syndrome, post-herpetic neuralgia, peripheral neuropathy, and angina pectoris. This report describes our experience in experimental spinal cord stimulation in patients with simultaneous post-herpetic neuralgia and herniated intervertebral disc. There wasn't any improvement in the post-herpetic neuralgia but the symptoms of a herniated intervertebral disc was much ameliorated. This was quite an unexpected result. The patient's back pain returned when the stimulation stopped.

Seismic response analysis of steel frames with post-Northridge connection

  • The seismic behavior of two steel moment-resisting frames, which satisfy all the current seismic design requirements, are evaluated and compared in the presence of pre-Northridge connections denoted as BWWF and an improved post-Northridge connections denoted as BWWF-AD. Pre-Northridge connections are modeled first as fully restrained (FR) type. Then they are considered to be partially restrained (PR) to model their behavior more realistically. The improved post-Northridge connections are modeled as PR type, as proposed by the authors. A sophisticated nonlinear time-domain finite element program developed by the authors is used for the response evaluation of the frames in terms of the overall rotation of the connections and the maximum drift. The frames are excited by ten recorded earthquake time histories. These time histories are then scaled up to produce some relevant response characteristics. The behaviors of the frames are studied comprehensively with the help of 120 analyses. Following important observations are made. The frames produced essentially similar rotation and drift for the connections modeled as FR type and PR type represented by BWWF-AD indicating that the presence of slots in the web of beams in BWWF-AD is not detrimental to the overall response behavior. When the lateral displacements of the frames are significantly large, the responses are improved if BWWF-AD type connections are used in the frames. This study analytically confirms many desirable features of BWWF-AD connections. PR frames have longer periods of vibration in comparison to FR frames and may attract lower inertia forces. However, calculated periods of the frames of this study using FEMA 350 empirical equation is longer than those calculated using dynamic characteristics of the frames. This may result in even lower design forces and may adversely influence the design.

Effects of Sexual Rehabilitation Using the PLISSIT Model on Quality of Sexual Life and Sexual Functioning in Post-Mastectomy Breast Cancer Survivors

  • Background and Objectives: As one of the most common treatments for breast cancer, mastectomy has adverse effects on the quality of sexual life and sexual functioning in the impacted women. Various strategies have therefore been proposed to resolve their sexual problems. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of sexual rehabilitation using the PLISSIT model in post-mastectomy breast cancer survivors. Materials and Methods: The present quasi-experimental study was conducted on a population of post-mastectomy breast cancer survivors and their husbands. Sample size was calculated as 50 each for intervention and non-intervention groups. The former received sexual counseling based on the PLISSIT model consisting of four levels of intervention: permission, limited information, specific suggestion and intensive therapy, presented in four 90-minute sessions. Data were collected using the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQOL-F) questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Results: No significant differences were observed in the mean quality of sexual life scores between the intervention and control groups (P>0.05) before the intervention; however, a significant difference emerged between the groups after the intervention (P<0.01). Thus the mean score for sexual functioning in the intervention group was $26.3{\pm}3.76$ before and $30.0{\pm}4.38$ after the intervention (P<0.0001). In the control group, however, the difference between the pre- and post-intervention mean scores was not statistically significant (P=0.713). Conclusion: The present study showed that nurses can use the PLISSIT model in conjunction with chemotherapy and radiotherapy to teach coping and problem-solving skills to women with breast cancer and their husbands and to encourage their participation in group programs for expressing their feelings and attitudes about their current sex life and thus help enhance quality of sexual life and sexual functioning in this group.

Fabrication and Post-Annealing Effects of Ferroelectric $Sr_xBi_yTa_2O_{9+\alpha}$(SBT) Thin Films by MOD Process (MOD법에 의한 강유전성 $Sr_xBi_yTa_2O_{9+\alpha}$(SBT) 박막의 제조 및 후열처리 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Ferroelectric $Sr_xBi_yTa_2O_{9+\alpha}$/(0.7$\leqSr\leq1.0,\; 2.0\leqBi\leq2.6)$ solutions were prepared by MOD (Metalorganic Deposition) process. These solutions were made into thin films with thickness ranging from 1500~2000${\AA}$ by spin coating. The phase transformation of the SBT thin films by variation of annealing temperature and annealing time were observed using high temperature XRD and SEM. The crystallization and grain growth of SBT thin film were accomplished at $800^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes after deposition of Pt top electrode by sputtering to prevent electrical breakdown. Ferroelectric properties of the SBT thin films were measured in the range of $\pm$3V\; and\; \pm5V$. The specimen with composition ratio of Sr/Bi/Ta (0.8/2.4/2.0) has the excellent ferroelectric properties ; $2P_r = 10.5,\; 13.2\muC/cm^2 \;at\; \pm3V\; and\; \pm5V$ respectively. Observing the post annealed Pt/SBT/Pt interface by SEM, it was found that Pt electrode sputtered on to the SBT thin film penetrated into the hollow on the SBT thin film, thus decreasing the effective insulation thickness. The effective insulation thickness recovered by post annealing, and this was confirmed by leakage current density measurement.

  • The goal of current study is to make a standard pattern identification for post stroke depression using a delphi method. Finally, ten experts of oriental medicine, especially of stroke or depression, participated in Dephi examination. At the first meeting, experts conducted free discussion and determined to use the previous published questionnaires of Deficiency-Excess identification and Cold-Heat identification. From the second round, experts participated in evaluating and correcting the questionnaire by email. New seven questions were added to the questionnaire of Deficiency-Excess identification through the second round. Finally, the standard pattern identification of Cold-Heat or Deficiency-Excess is composed 20 questions and 11 questions, respectively. These pattern identifications for post stroke depression will contribute to research and treatment of oriental medicine.

  • The intensive habitats loss of natural organisms as a consequence of anthropogenic activities has lead to the use of alternative habitats for species conservation. We reviewed the current status of alternative habitats and suggest the improvement of alternative habitats. Most of alternative habitats regarded in this study are not following the pre-arranged consultation at environmental impact assessment. These alternative habitats are rendered useless due to the insufficient consideration of ecological characteristics of species and lack of detailed plans. A number of alternative habitats are influenced by disturbance such as environmental pollution and construction. Post-monitoring of alternative habitats are needed to estimate immigration rate of species. Post management is also needed to assess the status of population stability. Overall, low effectiveness of alternative habitats is presented in this study. According to the status survey, methods for improvement of alternative habitats are required such as detailed guidelines, establishment of post-monitoring system, improvement of habitat restoration techniques, and guidelines for management and operation of alternative habitats.

Role of Post Weld Treatment Methods in the Improvement of Fatigue Life for T-type Welded Structures Made by SM 50A Steel (SM 50A 강으로 제작된 T-형 용접형상의 용접후처리 방법이 피로수명 증가에 작용하는 역할)

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of the post weld treatments on the fatigue life of T-type welded structure made by a SM50A steel material, generally used for excavators, because changes in the geometry, material and surface properties of welded regions affect the fatigue life of welded structures. T-type test specimens were prepared by the CO2 welding of rolled steel plates (SM50A steel) with a thickness of 10 mm at a welding speed of 30 cm/min and these Ttype welded specimens were further treated by UIT (Ultrasonic Impact Treatment) and/or toegrinding post welding treatment methods. In order to investigate improvements on the fatigue life of the samples. 3-point bending fatigue tests were conducted with a stress ratio of R=0.1 under a cyclic loading environment at a frequency of 5 Hz, via a hydraulic fatigue testing machine (${\pm}100\;kN$, MTS 809). The tests were performed at room temperature. The fatigue life of UIT specimens was approximately 25 times longer than that of as-welded specimens at a stress amplitude of 281 MPa, while toe-grinding specimens exhibited 4.15 times longer fatigue life. The current results could provide important guidelines to determine the proper post weld treatment methodologies of T-type welded parts for excavators with a satisfactory fatigue life although under severe operating conditions.

The Theoretical Backgrounds and Their Implications for Science Education (과학교육의 이론적 배경과 그 시사점)

  • Widespread recognition of the various aspects of science education has been prompted by post-positivist philosophers' discussions of the nature of science and intense debates among constructivist psychologists about learning in science. Their discussions and debates, in turn, have raised the problems associated with teaching/learning of science in the schools. The purpose of this article, basically based on the reviews and analyses of the literature related to philosophy of science and psychology, was to describe the implications of post-positivism and constructivism for current science education in the schools. In this paper, the author defines science education as education of/about science, and education through/by science. He also stresses that scientific literacy and decision-making should be emphasized as the goals of science education, that the ethical dimensions of science and technology must be included in science curriculum, that group discussion and/or cooperative learning are effective teaching strategy for science as interpreted by post-positivists and constructivists, and that the assessment should be focused on the degree to which cognitive structure has been changed through instruction in the school classrooms.
