  • The purpose of this research is to identify stereotypes toward the mother-in-law held by female students. Stereotypes toward the mother-in-law were examined at two levels: to assess female students' beliefs about the traits of mother-in-law and to categorize the traits into stereotypes. The main results of this study were as follows: 1) Students reported 91 traits associated with the mother-in-law. 2) Hierarchical cluster analysis of the trait groupings revealed two high-level clusters: a cluster of 42 positive traits and a cluster of 49 negative traits. Within the positive and negative clusters, 14 middle-level categories, 6 positive categories(tough, leisurely, traditional image of prudent elders, image of the eldest in the family, intimate, tolerant), and 8 negative categories(dominant, self-assertive, cold, discriminating, fearful, mean, sadistic, authoritative, nervous) were identified. This results suggested that female students believed negative stereotypes are more typical than positive ones.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify stereotypes toward the single women(30-49 age) held by university students. Stereotypes toward the single women were examined at two levels: to assess students' beliefs about the traits of single women and to categorize the traits into stereotypes. The main results of this study were as follows: 1) Students reported 99 traits associated with the single women. 2) Hierarchical cluster analysis of the trait groupings revealed two high-level clusters: a cluster of 45 positive traits and a cluster of 54 negative traits. Within the positive and negative clusters, 10 middle-level categories, 4 positive categories(enjoy living affluently, independence-oriented, progressive, openhearted), and 6 negative categories(lack of vitality, pitiful, self-centered, picky, childish, self-defensive) were identified. This results suggested that young adults believed negative stereotypes are more typical than positive ones.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the gender differences in the level of work/family spillover and factors explaining the spillover. Data are gathered from 1,236 Korean men and women aged between 30 to 59, using the structured questionnaire. The main results of this study are as follows. First, both men and women perceive moderate levels of negative and positive spillover from work to family. Second, the levels of negative family to work spillover are higher than then of positive family to work spillover. Third, men report higher levels of positive family to work spillover, but lower levels of negative family to work spillover than women. Sander differences in the levels of negative and positive spillover from work to family are not found. Fourth, only job characteristic factors are associated with four types of spillover of women, while the level of household labor sharing and spousal support are associated with work family spillover of men. Band on these findings, theoretical implications in terms of work-family research and gender norms are discussed.

  • The study assessed the relationship between brand evidence (e.g., brand name, price/value for money, servicescape, core service, employee service and self-image congruence) and positive/negative emotion and brand satisfaction, and between positive/negative emotion and brand satisfaction in the family restaurant setting. Also, the relationship of positive/negative emotion and brand satisfaction with customer loyalty were assessed. Customers who used five brands of family restaurant in Daegu and Pusan during October of 2008 were surveyed by questionnaires. Brand evidence was positively related to positive emotion and brand satisfaction, and was negatively related to negative emotion. Positive emotion was positively related to brand satisfaction and negative emotion was negatively related to brand satisfaction. Brand satisfaction was positively relatively to customer loyalty. The results indicate that management of family restaurants should focus on brand evidence as a means of increasing profits and sales volume.

  • I studied on the dual principle the negative-positive toward 'the motion of Taijiquan'. The results are as follows. The grade of comprehension on the dual principle for the negative-positive for human-body is equal to the comprehension on Taijiquan. YeoBiSae is judged abstractly for the image of MuGeug and GiSae for the image of TaeGeug on the motion of Taijiquan progressing program. The motion of Taijiquan is divided up the extension and contraction. In the motion of Taijiquan, the extension exercises make use of positive energy and DogMaeg(독맥), the contraction exercises make use of negative energy and ImMaeg(임맥).

Stereotypes toward the poor drinker were examined at two levels: to assess students' beliefs about the traits of the poor drinker and to categorize the traits into stereotypes. The main results of this study were as follows: 1) Students reported 97 traits associated with the poor drinker. 2) Hierarchical cluster analysis of the trait groupings revealed two high-level clusters: a cluster of 35 positive traits and a cluster of 62 negative traits. Within the positive and negative clusters, 15 middle-level categories, 5 positive categories(a kind patriarch, pure, thrifty and diligent, self-controlled, prudent), and 10 negative categories(isolated, dull, passive, not confidant, unsociable, repressed, unstable, egocentric, naive, childish) were identified. This results suggested that students believed negative stereotypes are more typical than positive ones.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between temperament, social support and positive, as well as negative emotions of institutionalized children. The participants were 198 children aged from 10 to 13 years old. They were recruited from 20 childcare facilities in Seoul. Data were analyzed using Cronbach alphas, factor analyses, frequencies, percentiles, t-tests and hierarchical regression analyses. The major findings were as follows: 1) on average, girls showed higher emotionality in temperament compared to boys. Girls reported greater support of school teacher than boys. Boys experienced significantly higher positive emotions than girls, while girls reported significantly higher negative emotions than boys. 2) Positive emotions were influenced by the support of the institutionalized family as well as school teachers. Negative emotions were influenced by the support of the institutionalized family.

  • This study investigated the influences of ego-resilience, positive affects, and negative affects on stress levels in children. The subjects were 245 5th-graders. The results indicated that : (1) Ego-resiliency and positive affects were significantly positively related to each other, and these variables were significantly negatively related to negative affects and stress. (2) Ego-resiliency had a direct effect on children's stress. Additionally, positive affects and negative affects mediated between ego-resiliency and stress; this means children who had high ego-resiliency experienced more positive affects, which led to lesser negative affects and reduced levels of stress.

  • This study examines the structural relationships between functional-congruity, self-congruity and their consequences, under coffee shop consumption setting. More specifically, it investigates how functional-congruity and self-congruity influence emotional responses (comprising positive and negative emotions) and store attitude formation. The authors propose a structural equation model comprising five constructs. Data were collected from 280 college students in Seoul and analyzed by LISREL 8.30. The findings can be summarized as follows: First, functional congruence of coffee shop customers appeared to have a positive effect on positive emotions and a negative effect on negative emotions. Second, self-congruity has a positive effect on coffee shop customers' positive emotions. Third, the effect of coffee shop customers' positive emotions on store attitude formation was positive and statistically significant while the effect of negative emotions on store attitude formation was negative. These results suggested that the effect of functional-congruity and self-congruity on store attitude formation was mediated by positive emotions and negative emotions.

  • A new reset waveform with negative ramp pulse was proposed. Comparative experiments between the negative and positive waveforms were performed. During reset period, IR distributions and luminance of black and white conditions were measured with the 42-inch XGA PDP module. The negative waveform improved contrast ratio about 15.4 ~ 22.5 % than the positive waveform by lowing the black luminance in reset period. Z bias (= Vbb) of the positive waveform was 27 V higher than the negative waveform.
