Development of Reference Epoch Adjustment Model for Correction of GPS Precise Point Positioning Results (GPS 정밀단독측위 성과의 보정을 위한 기준시점 조정모델 개발)

  • In this study, the epoch adjustment model was developed to correct GPS precise point positioning result to be suitable for the current geodetic datum of Korea which is tied at past epoch statically. The model is based on the formula describing crustal movements, and the formula is composed of several parameters. To determine the parameters, the data gathered at 14 permanent GPS stations for 10 years, from 2000 to 2011, were processed using GIPSY-OASIS II. It was possible to determine the position of permanent GPS stations with an error range of 16mm and the position of check points with an error range of 12mm by appling the model to GPS precise point positioning result. It is considered that more precise model could be calculated by using GPS data of more permanent GPS stations.

  • A digital tracking controller is proposed for a precise positioning control under a large repetitive and/or non repetitive disturbances. The proposed control system. Numerical Examples are illustrated for a precise head positioning of optical disk drives regardless of a torque disturbance and/or output disturbance.

Fault Detection in Automatic Identification System Data for Vessel Location Tracking

  • This paper presents a method for detecting faults in data obtained from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) of surface vessels. The data include latitude, longitude, Speed Over Ground (SOG), and Course Over Ground (COG). We derive two methods that utilize two models: a constant state model and a derivative augmented model. The constant state model incorporates noise variables to account for state changes, while the derivative augmented model employs explicit variables such as first or second derivatives, to model dynamic changes in state. Generally, the derivative augmented model detects faults more promptly than the constant state model, although it is vulnerable to potentially overlooking faults. The effectiveness of this method is validated using AIS data collected at a harbor. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach can automatically detect faults in AIS data, thus offering partial assistance for enhancing navigation safety.

Simulating the Availability of Integrated GNSS Positioning in Dense Urban Areas (통합 GNSS 환경에서 도시공간 위성측위의 가용성 평가 시뮬레이션)

  • This paper describes the availability of the forthcoming integrated GNSS(Global Navigation Positioning System) positioning that includes GPS(Global Positioning System), Galileo, and QZSS(Quasi-Zenith Satellites System). We built a signal propagation model that identifies direct, multipath, and diffraction signals, using the principles of specular reflection and ray tracing technique. The signal propagation model was combined with 3D GIS(three-dimensional geographic information system) in order to measure the satellite visibility and positioning error factors, such as the number of visible satellites, average elevation of visible satellites, optimized DOP(dilution of position) values, and the portion of multipath-producing satellites. Since Galileo and QZSS will not be fully operational until 2010, we used a simulation in comparing GPS and GNSS positioning for a $1km{\times}1km$ developed area in Shinjuku, Tokyo. To account for local terrain variation. we divided the target area into 40,000 $5m{\times}5m$ grid cells. The number of visible satellites and that of multipath-free satellites will be greatly increased in the integrated GNSS environment while the average elevation of visible satellites will be higher in the GPS positioning. Much decreased PDOP(position dilution of precision) values indicate the appropriate satellite/user geometry of the integrated GNSS; however, in dense urban areas, multipath mitigation will be more important than the satellite/user geometry. Thus, the efforts for applying current technologies of multipath mitigation to the future GNSS environment will be necessary.

  • Rapid developments in wireless sensor networks have extended many applications, hence, many studies have developed wireless sensor network positioning systems for indoor environments. Among those systems, the Global Position System (GPS) is unsuitable for indoor environments due to Line-Of-Sight (LOS) limitations, while the wireless sensor network is more suitable, given its advantages of low cost, easy installation, and low energy consumption. Due to the complex settings of indoor environments and the high demands for precision, the implementation of an indoor positioning system is difficult to construct. This study adopts a low-cost positioning method that does not require additional hardware, and uses the received signal strength (RSS) values from the receiver node to estimate the distance between the test objects. Since many objects in indoor environments would attenuate the radio signals and cause errors in estimation distances, knowing the path loss exponent (PLE) in an environment is crucial. However, most studies preset a fixed PLE, and then substitute it into a radio propagation loss model to estimate the distance between the test points; such method would lead to serious errors. To address this problem, this study proposes a Path Loss Exponent Estimation Algorithm, which uses only four beacon nodes to construct a radio propagation loss model for an indoor environment, and is able to provide enhanced positioning precision, accurate positioning services, low cost, and high efficiency.

Dynamic Positioning Control of Floating Platform using $H_{\infty}$ Control Method ($H_{\infty}$ 제어법을 이용한 부유식 플랫폼의 동위치 제어)

  • This paper presents a design method of dynamic positioning control system for floating platform with rotatable and retractable thruster using $H_{\infty}$ control technique. The norm band of uncertainty is captured by multiplicative perturbation between nominal model and reduced order model. A controller robust to the uncertainty is designed applying $H_{\infty}$ synthesis. The control law satisfying robust stabillity and nominal performance condition is determined through the mixed sensitivity approach. The evaluation for the resultant controller obtained by $H_{\infty}$ synthesis is done through simulations of the closed loop system. The results of $H_{\infty}$ synthesis are compared to those of the traditional LQ synthesis method.

Development of an IGVM Integrated Navigation System for Vehicular Lane-Level Guidance Services

  • This paper presents an integrated navigation system for accurate navigation solution-based safety and convenience services in the vehicular augmented reality (AR)-head up display (HUD) system. For lane-level guidance service, especially, an accurate navigation system is essential. To achieve this, an inertial navigation system (INS)/global positioning system (GPS)/vision/digital map (IGVM) integrated navigation system has been developing. In this paper, the concept of the integrated navigation system is introduced and is implemented based on a multi-model switching filter and vehicle status decided by using the GPS data and inertial measurement unit (IMU) measurements. The performance of the implemented navigation system is verified experimentally.

  • A 6-DOF precision stage was developed based on parallel kinematics structure with flexure hinges to eliminate backlash, stick-slip and friction and to minimize parasitic motion coupled with motions in the other-axis directions. For the stage, lever linkage mechanism was devised to reduce the height of system for the enhancement of horizontal stiffness. Frequency response comparison between experimental results and mathematical model extracted from dynamics of the stage was performed to identify the system parameters such as spring constants and damping coefficients of actuation modules, which cannot be calculated accurately by analytic methods owing to their complicated structures. This newly developed precision stage and its identified model will be very useful for precision positioning and control because of its high accuracy and non-coupled movement.
