컨테이너 터미널 경쟁력향상을 위한 항만마케팅 전략에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Port Marketing Strategy for Strengthening the Competitive Power of the Container Terminal)

  • The intensification of the competition among container terminals has led to important affect such as, decision making or aggressive intervention of customers for terminal operation. Therefore, in case of developed ports, the large transition of port operation is composed of the press of terminal customer than decision making of terminal manager. Overall port tariffs for using terminal is made out by the conference of terminal customers than the supreme headquarters of terminal operation, and the related investment of terminal has been made according to requisition or proposal of customers. Therefore, among decision making problems that shippers, shipping companies, and freight forwarder among decision making problems that shippers, shipping companies, and freight forwarder face, the choice of the container terminal is one of the most important problems. So, the decision making of the users seems to have a significant impact on the competitive power of container terminals. The main objective of this study is to design port marketing strategy for strengthening the competitive power of container terminals. The results of this study were found as follows: Firstly, port authority should establish user-oriented operation policy of terminal as the means of activating the opinion window, using terminal monitoring system(TMS). Secondly, terminal planning and development of government should be made to minimize the lead time, to induce the civil capital and to utilize the economies of scale. Thirdly, port authority needs to endeavor to analyze the information of competing foreign terminals as well to promote the concentrated marketing for the terminal on the users, to train the expert and to develop the new port charge system. Fourthly, to improve the competitive power of the container terminal, Port Authority should optimize the subsystems related to port marketing, far more these systems should be joined organically to work effectively. Finally, port authority system should be introduced, Namely, port should have the enterprise inclination as well s the public inclination.

부산항 관세자유지역의 경쟁력 평가 및 활성화 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study to activate and evaluate competitive advantage on Free Trade Zone of Busan Port)

  • 세계 경제의 글로벌화에 따른 국제물류의 환경변화로 세계 주요 항만은 각 권역에서의 물류거점 항만이 되기 위한 경쟁이 치열하게 전개되고 있다. 우리나라(한국)에서도 동북아지역에서의 지리적인 이점을 활용하여 새정부의 출범과 함께 국가차원에서 한반도를 동북아 물류 중심기지로 육성하기 위한 전략을 적극적으로 추진 중에 있다. 그 중 한가지 전략이 관세자유지역 지정을 통한 다국적 물류기업의 유치로 물류산업의 활성화 및 동북아의 국제물류기지로 육성할 계획이다. 그러나 세계 각국에 비해 후발주자인 부산항 관세자유지역에 세계적인 다국적 기업의 유치를 위해서는 중앙정부 및 지방정부의 많은 투자가 필요한 것이 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 중국 및 일본에 있는 업체의 설문 조사를 토대로 부산항 관세자유지역의 경쟁력을 분석하고 활성화 방안을 제시하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 컨조인트 분석을 통한 응답 업체의 선호도 조사결과 투자절차 및 제한이 36.2%로 가장 높은 선호도를 나타내고 있기 때문에, 관세자유지역에 기업을 유치하기 위해서 가장 중요시해야 할 전략은 투자절차 및 제한에 대한 문제점을 해결해야 한다. 시장점유율 시뮬레이션 분석을 통하여 경쟁력을 평가한 결과, 5개 국가중 UAE의 경쟁력이 가장 높고 한국은 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 투자절차 및 제한과 생산요소 비용의 현재 수준을 개선시켰을 경우에는 5개 국가중 UAE 다음으로 경쟁력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 부산항 관세자유지역이 경쟁력을 가지기 위해서는 투자절차 및 제한에 대한 개선뿐만 아니라 생산요소 비용에서도 기업들이 만족하는 수준으로 절감되어야 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

환동해권 항만물류산업 활성화방안 - 강원도를 중심으로 - (Around East Sea Region Port Logistics Industry Activation Scheme with Gangwon Province)

  • 본 논문는 환동해권에서 입지적 우위를 갖는 강원도의 항만물류산업 활성화 방안을 모색함으로써 지역경제발전에 기여하고자 하였다. 본 논문은 강원도 항만물류산업의 활성화방안을 강원도와 정부 측면으로 구분하여 제시하였다. 강원도 차원에서는 국제물류 환경변화에 따른 거점 항만의 지정 및 개발, 환동해권 주요 항만간 네트워크 및 전자항만 시스템의 구축, 그리고 항만배후지 지원을 위한 자유무역지대나 경제자유지역 같은 경제특구의 조성 및 확대 방안을 제시하였다. 또한 배후단지에는 환동해권의 자원과 관련된 산업을 유치 및 육성하는 것이 효과적이라는 것과 적극적인 항만물류마케팅 활동의 추진을 주문하였다. 정부 차원에서는 강원도 항만에 대한 직접적인 접근성 및 연계성 확대를 위한 SOC 투자 확대 방안과 정부의 서남해안 위주 항만개발정책의 전환을 통한 강원도 항만에 대한 적극적이고 효율적인 지원을 요구하였다. 끝으로 항만물류 분야의 첨단화와 글로벌화가 급속히 확대되는 상황에서 종합적인 전문물류인력양성 기관의 설치 및 지원이 필요함을 제시하였다.

한국항만도시의 입지, 인구성장과 화물집중도연구 (A Study on the Location, Population Growth, and Cargo Concentration of Korean Port-Cities)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the location, population growth. and cargo concentration of Korean port-cities. In the location theory, Sommer (1976) and McGee (1967) models are newly introduced, as are the Rimmer (1967), Bird (1965), Hoyle (1981) models. which were already introduced in previous studies from Korea. Analysis of population growth in the Korean port-cities is conducted using data from 1966 to 1998. Rimmer and Hoyle's concentration models are used to measure cargo concentration from 1966 to 2000. The main results of this paper are as follows: First, Korean ports are concentrated on the East Sea, the Southern Sea, and the West Sea. Their locations are closely related with the hinterland. the inland city, and growth of port-cities. In considering the foreign countrys' cases, Korean port-cities are similar to the models of Bird and Hoyle. Second, the populations of Ulsan and Pohang grew at the fastest rate in 1966-1998, while the port cities in the Honam and Jeiu region grew at much lower ratios. Most port cities are located near large industrial complexes. Third the growth rates of Gwangyang, Daesan, Pohang, Pyungtaeg, and Samchunpo increased, while those of Busan. Mukho, Masan, Mogpo, Yeosu, and Sokcho declined. Of particular note, the growth rate of Busan remained negative after the late 1980s. Fourth. empirical results using the Rimmer (1967) model indicate that Gwangyang, Daesan, Pyungtag, and Pohang have shown the concentration. But the deconcentration was shown from the Busan, Mukho, Janghang, Gunsan, Mogpo, Yeosu, Masan, Sokcho. and Jeju. Fifth, the concentration of ports located in West coast region has shown the mixed results between concentration and deconcentration except the concentration of early 1970s and 1990s. The concentration of ports located in East coast region has shown the concentration before the middle of 1980s. And deconcentration after the middle of 1980s have appeared. The Southern coast region has shown the continuous deconcentration except the partial concentration of early 1986. and 1991. Planners of Korean ports should find out the factors of concentration and deconcentration of each ports and should determine factors such as investment priority level. size and scope in order to ensure the balanced development of regional ports and port-cities.

새만금 신항의 항만경쟁력 결정요인 분석과 발전전략에 관한 연구 (Determinants of Port Competitiveness and Development Strategy of Saemangeum New Port)

  • 새만금 신항의 항만경쟁력 결정요인을 분석한 결과에 의하면, 유럽항로의 해상거리가 포함된 Model I의 경우 유럽항로 해상거리, 취항 선사 수, 수심 11m 선석 수 및 경제성장률 등이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 북미항로의 해상거리가 포함된 Model II의 경우, 북미항로 해상거리, 취항 선사 수, 수심 11m 이상의 선석 수 및 경제성장률 등이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 유럽항로와 북미항로의 해상거리가 포함되지 않은 Model III의 경우는 취항 선사 수, 수심 11m 이상의 선석 수 및 경제성장률 등이 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석에 따른 새만금 신항의 합리적인 발전전략으로는 첫째, 중국 경제의 지속적인 섬장으로 중국 화물이 증가하고 있는 상황에서 중국과 근거리에 위치한 새만금 신항이 이들 화물을 유치하기 위해 조기에 착공되어야 한다. 아울러 수심 15m 이상의 선석 수를 늘리는 것이 필요하다. 그리고 취항 선사 수를 증가시키기 위해 둘째, 중국의 특정지역으로 화물을 운송하는 취항 선사유치전략이 필요하다. 또한 새만금 신항의 경우는 인천항과의 차별화를 위해 중국 요녕성과 하북성의 화물보다 강소성과 산등성, 안휘성 및 철강성 지역의 화물을 유치하기 위해 새만금 군산 경제자유구역청의 선사유치전략이 필요하다. 셋째, 서해안권 항만, 즉 인천항 평택항 군산항 및 장항항 등에서 취급하는 화물이 전환되고 있으므로 새만금 신항에서 취급할 화물을 고려하여 투자유치전략을 수립하여야 한다. 넷째, 새만금 신항은 인접 기존 항만과의 화물유치를 위한 대립적 경쟁보다 상호 win-win할수 있는 Hub and Spoke 기항전략과 같은 연계 프로그램을 구축하여야 한다.

An Empirical Study on the Determinants of the Debt Repayment Capability of Shipping Firms in Recession

  • In this study, an empirical analysis of 55 ship finance cases executed by a specific ship finance bank from 2009 to 2016 during the recession period was conducted. The purpose of this study was to find the factors affecting changes in the debt performance of Korean shipping companies. The main factors were the loan nature (investment purpose, loan-to-value (LTV), syndicated loans, loan terms, put-option, balloon, and spread), financial nature (total assets turnover, net profit-to-sales ratio, debt ratio, quick ratio, total borrowing, bonds payable to total assets, interest expenses-to-sales ratio, debt service coverage ratio (DSCR), and total assets), and the company nature (company age, chief executive officer's (CEO's) shares, and listing status). In this study, the factors affecting the debt repayment capability of domestic shipping companies (loan nature, financial nature, and company nature) were verified. The credit rating was used to measure the dependent variable, debt repayment ability. The variables of investment purpose, put-option, balloon, and spread in the loan nature, debt ratio in the financial nature, and the CEO's shares and company age in the company nature were found to be significant.

  • 오늘날 전반적인 산업분야에서 정보기술을 바탕으로 운영되고 이에 대한 기대와 투자가 증가되고 있다. 물류산업에서도 물류정보망의 중요성이 커지고, 효율적으로 운영하는데 정보화투자가 증가되고 있다. 하지만 대부분 고정자산에 대한 효율성 분석으로 이루어져, 정보화수준이 효율성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구는 미흡하다. 본 연구는 컨테이너 터미널 효율적 운영을 위하여 정보화수준평가의 중요성을 제시하고 DEA를 이용하여 정보화수준에 대한 상대적 효율성을 측정하였다.

Determinants of energy efficiency in Sub-Saharan Africa

  • Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) is receiving increased investments in the energy sector under the belt and road initiative (BRI) project since its inception in 2013. SSA has a worse energy efficiency ratio coupled with deficient electricity access, through analysis showed varied impacts on the SSA countries due to the BRI initiative. This study dilves into the influencing factors for Energy Efficiency (EE) in 38 SSA countries, applying the probit and logit approach for 2000-2018. The Multiple-regression model shows significant results of some variables such as foreign direct investment, gross domestic product, and port infrastructure quality being significant on EE under BRI initiative countries. However, the logit and probit models produce similar results and the marginal effect for the entire variable, except energy imports that do not likely impact EE. Furthermore, the interaction of quality of port infrastructure and foreign direct investment variables produces significant results, highlighting the increased investments SSA receives under the BRI initiative in the energy and transport sectors. The model Percent correctly predicted (PCP) value was about 84%, indicating it correctly classified the variables and about 16% not classified. The study recommends EE performance standards should be incorporated on energy projects in SSA to ensure that these projects are energy efficient and decouple SSA's energy demand from economic growth. The research proffers suggestions for policy regarding the BRI initiative in SSA and the implications on sustainable energy and building a community with a shared future.

A Study on the Productivity Measurement and Effect Factors of Management Evaluation in Public Firms with a Focus on the Port Authorities

  • In this study, we first measured the malmquist productivity index by DEA among the Korean public firms. Second, there are 12 public corporations whose productivity (MPI) has decreased compared to 2014. This is mainly because of a decrease in productivity, as well as a decrease in the technical efficiency change index (TECI), impacted by the internal environment, and the increase in productivity because of an increase in the technology change index (TCI) impacted by the external environment. Finally, the analysis of the impact on the management assessment scores showed that the productivity (MPI), scale efficiency (CRS), size of sales, operating profitability, and total capital investment efficiency are significantly related (+), except for the asset turnover, which is a static financial ratio. Meanwhile, the management evaluation scores between the high-productivity public corporations and low-performing public corporations were significantly discriminating. Thus, it is confirmed that the nation's state-run companies must manage their MPIs in a time series to score high in management evaluation.

Comparative Analysis of Container Terminals in Northern Vietnam, 2005-2014

  • Sea-ports in Northern Vietnam have experienced a rapid growth of container throughput in recent years. To accompany with such development, huge investment also has been performed to enhance not only local port capacity but also the regional logistics system. Container terminals in Northern Vietnam locate centrally along Cam river of Haiphong city, leaving 2 others in Quang Ninh province. Five out of totally 11 container terminals in the area are under the control of Vinalines - a national corporation in field of maritime industry. In this paper, those terminals are classified in terms of location and ownership. The volume of container throughput and facilities of all container terminals in Northern Vietnam from 2005 to 2014 are recorded in order to compare the performance of groups. A Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is then applied to evaluate the relative efficiency of such terminals. Before conclusion, number of suggestions will be contributed to related parties.
