This study investigated the high temperature oxidation behavior of Ni-22.4%Fe-22%Cr-6%Al (wt.%) porous metal. Two types of open porous metals with different pore sizes of 30 PPI and 40 PPI (pore per inch) were used. A 24-hour TGA test was conducted at three different temperatures of $900^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$. The results of the BET analysis revealed that the specific surface area increased as the pore size decreased from 30 PPI to 40 PPI. The oxidation resistance of porous metal decreased with decreasing pore size. As the temperature increased, the oxidation weight gain of the porous metal also increased. Porous metals mainly created oxides such as $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, $NiAl_2O_4$, and $NiCr_2O_4$. In the 40 PPI porous metal with small pore size and larger specific surface area, the depletion of stabilizing elements such as Al and Cr occurred more quickly during oxidation compared to the 30 PPI porous metal. Ni-Fe-Cr-Al porous metal's high-temperature oxidation micro-mechanism was also discussed.
Porous concrete is used of various parts by advantage of porous. Example of growing of plant is possible, and dwelling of creature, and filter functions of various contaminant, and decrease of noise, and so on. This research is for porous concretes that were used by four aggregate rubble, refreshing aggregate, expanded clay, orchid stone. This research estimate that physical and mechanical characteristics of fresh concrete and hardened concrete. The purpose of this research is to make environment-friendly porous concrete. This research's conclusion is as following : 1. Porous Concrete's slump was measured 12~14cm with rubble, 12~16cm with refreshing aggregate, 11~13cm with expanded clay, 11~13cm with orchid stone. Weight of aggregate was bigger, slump price appeared by bigger thing. Because placed Porous Concrete is low viscosity and small resistance between aggregate, it estimated that have high workability. 2. Porous Concrete's unit weight was measured 1.71~1.75t/$\textrm{m}^3$ with rubble, 1.58~1.62t/$\textrm{m}^3$ with refreshing aggregate, 1.19~1.20t/$\textrm{m}^3$ with expanded clay, 0.98~1.06t/$\textrm{m}^3$ with orchid stone. Showed aspect such as weight of aggregate. 3. Porous Concrete's compressive strength was measured 76~102kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with rubble, 51~60kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with refreshing aggregate, 30~40kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with expanded clay, 13~16kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with orchid stone. 4. Tendency of tensile strength and bending strength showed generally similarly with compressive strength, but showed low value fewer than 15kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ Therefore, wire mesh, reinforcing rod, such as establishment of frame is considered to need in reinforcement about tensility or flexures in case receive tensility or produce product of thin absence form. It concludes by speculating on the consequences of extrapolating the results of study to remodelling the office building being already existence.
Macroperforations improve the sound absorption performance of porous materials in acoustic cavities and in waveguides. In an acoustic cavity, enhanced noise reduction is achieved using porous materials having macroperforations. Double porosity materials are obtained by filling these macroperforations with different poroelastic materials having distinct physical properties. The locations of macroperforations in porous layers can be chosen based on cavity mode shapes. In this paper, the effect of variation of macroporosity and double porosity in porous materials on noise reduction in an acoustic cavity is presented. This analysis is done keeping each perforation size constant. Macroporosity of a porous material is the fraction of area covered by macro holes over the entire porous layer. The number of macroperforations decides macroporosity value. The system under investigation is an acoustic cavity having a layer of poroelastic material rigidly attached on one side and excited by an internal point source. The overall sound pressure level (SPL) inside the cavity coupled with porous layer is calculated using mixed displacement-pressure finite element formulation based on Biot-Allard theory. A 32 node, cubic polynomial brick element is used for discretization of both the cavity and the porous layer. The overall SPL in the cavity lined with porous layer is calculated for various macroporosities ranging from 0.05 to 0.4. The results show that variation in macroporosity of the porous layer affects the overall SPL inside the cavity. This variation in macroporosity is based on the cavity mode shapes. The optimum range of macroporosities in poroelastic layer is determined from this analysis. Next, SPL is calculated considering periodic and nodal line based optimum macroporosity. The corresponding results show that locations of macroperforations based on mode shapes of the acoustic cavity yield better noise reduction compared to those based on nodal lines or periodic macroperforations in poroelastic material layer. Finally, the effectiveness of double porosity materials in terms of overall sound pressure level, compared to equivolume double layer poroelastic materials is investigated; for this the double porosity material is obtained by filling the macroperforations based on mode shapes of the acoustic cavity.
This study aims to investigate numerically the static stiffness characteristics of porous air bearing and to estimate appropriate permeability values of porous medium. In particular, a new roughness model is proposed and implemented into the commercial CFD code (FLUENT Ver. 6.2) by using C language based user subroutine. The predicted results are extensively compared with experimental data. The roughness model is also validated through comparison with the results from open literature. It is found that the predictions for static stiffness are in good agreement with experimental data. Therefore, the suggested model based on the roughness Reynolds number can be used in studying the stiffness characteristics of porous air bearing effectively. In addition, numerical simulations of various diameter size and conditions are conducted. According the results, it is expected that the static stiffness of porous air bearing has the non-linear characteristics.
In this study, wave characteristics coming with oblique incident angle to permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed are calculated by using boundary element method. This numerical analysis, based on the wave pressure function, is analyzing the continuity in the analytical region including fluid and structure. From the comparison of the reflection coefficients and damping coefficient, the results of this study are in good agreement with the existing results. The peak values of reflection coefficient obtained by permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed are smaller than those of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the non-porous seabed. The velocity vector in front of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed is smaller than that in front of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the non-porous seabed with out the energy loss.
This paper describes the formation of porous 3C-SiC by anodization. 3C-SiC thin films were deposited on p-type Si(100) substrates by APCVD using HMDS (Hexamethyildisilane: $Si_2(CH_3)_6$). UV-LED(380 nm) was used as a light source. The surface morphology was observed by SEM and the pore size was increased with increase of current density. Pore diameter of 70 ~ 90 nm was achieved at 7.1 $mA/cm^2$ current density and 90 sec anodization time. FT-IR was conducted for chemical bonding of thin film and porous 3C-SiC. The Si-H bonding was observed in porous 3C-SiC around wavenumber 2100 $cm^{-1}$. PL shows the band gap enegry of thin film (2.5 eV) and porous 3C-SiC (2.7 eV).
Porous materials play a significant role in energy storage and conversion applications such as catalyst support for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell. In particular, hierarchical porous materials with both micropores (poresize, ${\delta}$ < 2 nm) and regularly arranged mesopores (2 nm < ${\delta}$ < 50 nm) are known to greatly enhance the efficiency of catalytic reactions by providing enormous surface area as well as fast mass transport channels for both reactants and products from/to active sites. Although it is generally agreed that the microscopic structure of the porous materials directly affects the performance of these catalytic reactions, neither detailed mechanisms nor fundamental understanding are available at hand. In this study, we propose an atomistic model of hierarchical nanostructured porous carbons (HNPCs) in molecular dynamics simulations. By performing a systematic study, we found that structural features of the HNPC can be independently altered by tuning specific synthesis parameters, while remaining other structures unchanged. In addition, we show some structure-property relations including mechanical and gas transport properties.
An analytical model of liquid sloshing is developed to consider the energy-loss effect through a partially submerged porous baffle in a horizontally oscillating rectangular tank. The nonlinear boundary condition at the porous baffle is derived to accurately capture both the added inertia effects and the energy-loss effects from an equivalent non-linear drag law. Using the eigenfunction expansion method, the horizontal hydrodynamic force (added mass, damping coefficient) on both the wall and baffle induced by the fluid motion is assessed for various combinations of porosity, submergence depth, and the tank's motion amplitude. It is found that a negative value for the added mass and a sharp peak in the damping curve occur near the resonant frequencies. In particular, the hydrodynamic force and free surface amplitude can be largely reduced by installing the proper porous baffle in a tank. The optimal porosity of a porous baffle is near P=0.1.
Outlet of gas has been a big problem in deforming rubber or plastic in pressing mold. Air vent has been used to solve the problem, but it has weak points such as the increased cost, the increased number of process, and vent marks on the surface of a produce. In this study, the sintering method is used for making porous metal mold. Porous metal mold has many open pores, which are very small. When Porous metal mold is used for pressing mold, all process would be made short, produce cost would be down, and it would not leave vent marks on the surface of a produce. Porosity varies from sintering and pressing conditions, which are the pressure of compacting powder, the length of sintering time, sintering temperature and sintering atmosphere etc. This study will find optimized sintering temperature condition for the Porous metal mold.
Manufacturing process of porous glass by the filler method was studied. Commercial soda-lime-silicate glass powder was mixed with inorganic salt as the filler such as KCl, K2SO4, Na2SO4. Sintering shrinkages of mixed powders with the variation of sintering temperature were compared, and the effects of the fillers to shrinkages of mixed powder were increased in the order of Na2SO4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of pore diameter were manufactured when the filler sizes 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The open pore volume of porous glass is determined by the quantity of filler and porous glasses having open pore volume between 30 and 70 vol% are available. Available sintering temperature range for preparation of porous glass is from the softening temperature of the glass powder to eutectic melting temperature of DTA curve of mixed powder.
