  • The structure and properties of HSLA steel obtained by Osprey forming process were investigated. The porosities were generated at the bottom of specimen due to the quenching effect of cold substrate during forming. The steel had a bainitic structure. The grain size were different among positions due to the cooling rates. The elements such as Mn, S, Si, Cr, Mo and etc. were contained in inclusions. They were formed at grain boundries. The size of them was $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ and has nothing to do with the chemical composition. MnS and NbC were precipitated during rolling and aging.

  • Chemically functionalized plant oils such as acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) and maleinized acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (MAESO) were used as new bio-based binders for $TiO_2$ electrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). More porous networks and larger porosities were fabricated on the $TiO_2$ films using plant oil binders due to the larger number of functionalities, in comparison with the film using polyethylene glycol (PEG). The charge-transfer resistance in the $TiO_2$ films was considerably shrunk due to the reduced impurity states. The short circuit photocurrent (Isc) and the open circuit photovoltage (Voc) of the cell using plant oil binders increased and the conversion efficiency improved significantly.

  • This paper studies nonlinear stability behavior of a nanocrystalline silicon curved nanoshell considering strain gradient size-dependency. Nanocrystallines are composite materials with an interface phase and randomly distributed nano-size grains and pores. Imperfectness of the curved nanoshell has been defined based on an initial deflection. The formulation of nanocrystalline nanoshell has been established by thin shell theory and an analytical approach has been used in order to solve the buckling problem. For accurately describing the size effects related to nano-grains or nano-pores, their surface energies have been included. Nonlinear stability curves of the nanoshell are affected by the size of nano-grain, curvature radius and nano-pore volume fraction. It is found that increasing the nano-pore volume fraction results in lower buckling loads.

  • This paper presents three-dimensional finite element method analyses of the distribution of equivalents stress of Von Mises. Induced around a cavity located in the bone cement polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The presences and effect of its position in the cement was demonstrated, thus on the stress level and distribution. The porosity interaction depending on their positions, and their orientations on the interdistances their mechanical behaviour of bone cement effects were analysed. The obtained results show that micro-porosity located in the proximal and distal zone of the prosthesis is subject to higher stress field. We show that the breaking strain of the cement is largely taken when the cement, containing the porosities very close adjacent to each other.

  • A set of constitutive equations is formulated to predict elastic-plastic strain hardening response of sintered porous iron under combined tension and torsion. The proposed constitutive equations were capable of predicting characteristic behaviors of porous metals. Agreement between theoretical curves and experimental data for elastic-plastic response of sintered porous iron was very good for various initial porosities.

An evaluation of arc sprayed layer on the erosion property (Arc Sprayed부의 Erosion 특성평가)

  • The characteristics of arc sprayed layer were studied with hardness test and microstructural observation. The erosion resistance of arc sprayed layer was also evaluated using a method of steel ball blasting test which was proposed in this study as a test method for measuring the erosion properties in the impact wear condition. By an impact of the molten droplets on the redeposited substrate, lamella structure was formed which contains laminated oxide layers, fissures, and porosities. As a result of mechanical tests, it was shown that the sprayed specimen showed higher hardness than the substrate, but it resulted in higher erosion rate than the substrate. The poor erosion property obtained with a sprayed coating was considered to be attributable to easy flaking off the the layers laminated with brittle oxide layers.

Manufacture of Thin Polymer Matrix for PAFC (인산형 연료전지용 고분자 박막 매트릭스 제조)

  • Porous matrices for PAFC were prepared with chemically synthesized polyaniline powders. Phosphoric acid doped polyaniline showed decreasing electric conductivities as the temperature increased. Above $100^{\circ}C$, it showed negligible conductivities. It was stable in phosphoric acid up to $250^{\circ}C$. SiC powders or SiC whiskers were added to polyaniline to decrease the thermal expansion of polyaniline. 10% of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) was also added as a binder. The bubble pressures and wettabilities of matrices were investigated and compared with the porosities measured by porosimeter. Based on these data, the optimum manufacturing condition was determined. The bubble pressure of the matrix made by adding 25w/o SiC whiskers was 345mmHg, the wettability was 235w/o, and the porosity was 83%. In the unit cell operation, the performances of polyaniline matrices were as good as those of SiC matrices. This result suggested that polyaniline can be a possible candidate for the matrix material of PAFC.

  • New porous BaTiO$_3$ thermistors were fabricated using graphite powders (0 to 10 wt. %) and their porosities were in the range of 9.1% to 16.2%. As results of impedance analysis, it was confirmed that the pores affected the grain-boundary resistance and the bulk (grain interior) resistance was constant as about 25 $\Omega$ at room temperature. The magnitude of PTCR effect $(p_{max}/p)$ markedly increased from 3 orders to 7 orders without addition of any acceptor dopant such as Mn or Cr.

  • Heat transfer on packed bed is considered to be important for the effective designs of chemical reaction equipment, air conditioning system, and storage type heat exchanger, etc. Currently studies are being carried out quite actively in this field in order to increase the heat transfer efficiency. The effect of heat transfer is closely relater to materials, shapes, porosities and packing states of packed bed as well as mutual dimensional relations between particles and the container. Investigation shows that heat transfer results appear to be influenced by such parameters as fluid velocity through packed bed, mass flow, and thermal properties. It is noted that viscosity is also considered to be an important factor in this problem. In this study, effective thermal conductivities on packed bed, effects of thermal conductivity (Ke) and friction factor (Fk) according to change of porosity(.epsilon.) and Reynolds number(Reh(, and pressure loss of the fluid, are experimentally investigated. Results show that the effective thermal conductivity increases and the friction factor decreased, as against the increase of Reynolds number. But as the increase of porosity increase them both.

Ground water in the four major basins in Korea (사대강유역의 지하수)

  • Ground water stored in the alluvium and the rocks provides the vase flow of the streams and can be withdraw from wells and infiltration galleries. And it is also recharge naturallyby precipitation. The amount of ground water in the four major basins it is estimated to be about 137,000 million cubiv meters(Table1), while nationwide ground water storage to be about 232,000 million cubic meters. The estimation of storage volume has been made on the basis of assumed thickness of the saturated zone of the different rocks and assumed porosities of those rocks. The values of the porosity of alluvium and saprolite were assumed to be 25% and 40% respectivvely which are based on tests made of similar materials in Georgia, U.S. The volume of water in storage is believed to be a conservative estimate. Detailed geologic and hydrologic investigation should be made where and when water resources are needed.
