A new polymer replication technology using ultrasonic vibration is proposed and demonstrated. A commercial ultrasonic welder has been used in this experiment. Two different types of nickel molds have been fabricated: pillar type and pore type microstructures. Polymethyl methacrlylate (PMMA) has been used as the replication material and the optimal molding time was 2 sec and 2.5 sec for pillar-type and pore-type micromolds, respectively. Compared with the conventional polymer micromolding techniques, the proposed ultrasonic micromolding technique has the shortest processing time. In addition, only contact area between micromold and polymer substrate is melted so that the thermal shrinkage can be minimized. The fabricated PMMA microstructures have been very accurately replicated without vacuum. The proposed ultrasonic molding technique is a good alternative for high volume production.

Li-air batteries have a promising future for because of their high energy density, which could theoretically be equal to that of gasoline. However, substantial Li-air cell performance limitations exist, which are related to the air cathode. The cell discharge products are deposited on the surfaces of the porous carbon materials in the air electrode, which blocks oxygen from diffusing to the reaction sites. Hence, the real capacity of a Li-air battery is determined by the carbon air electrode, especially by the pore volume available for the deposition of the discharged products. In this study, a simple and fast method is reported for the large-scale synthesis of carbon nanoballs (CNBs) consisting of a highly mesoporous structure for Li-air battery cathodes. The CNBs were synthesized by the solution plasma process from benzene solution, without the need for a graphite electrode for carbon growth. The CNBs so formed were then annealed to improve their electrical conductivity. Structural characterization revealed that the CNBs exhibited both an pore structure and high conductivity.
The microstructure of vitreous bonded abrasives, which are used as the essential materials in the precise grinding, was investigated theoretically using two particle model. In this paper, a general equation applicable for a case in which there is a gap between abrasive grits is suggested. As a result, it was known that both the volume ratio of grit to glassy bond(V\ulcorner/V\ulcorner) and porosity(V\ulcorner) are the function of $\alpha$(the ratio of distance between grit to diameter of grit) and $\theta$(the angle from the center of pore to that of grit). Because the value $\alpha$ and $\theta$ can be get easily by using these suggested equations, the microstructure could be explained quantitatively. Also the raised error with the increasing amount of bond was modified by the simple assumption. As a result, in that case, both V\ulcorner/V\ulcorner and V\ulcorner were known to be the function of $\alpha$ and $\theta$(the ratio diameter of pore to that of grit).

A strategy for the synthesis of more stable and large periodic mesoporous organo-silica materials has been developed for the 2D hexagonal mesoporous organosilica by the core-shell approach using nonionic PEO-PLGA-PEO triblock copolymer templates. The BET surface area of the solvent-extracted hexagonal mesoporous organosilica is estimated to be 1,016 ㎡/g and the pore volume, pore diameter, and wall thickness are 1.447 ㎤/g, 65 Å, and 43 Å, respectively. More hydrophobic PLGA block than the PPO block used for templates of mesoporous silica proves to be quite effective in confining the organosilicates within the PEO phase. Reaction temperature and acid concentration of an initial solution as well as the chemical nature of the bloc k copolymer templates also demonstrate to be important experimental parameters for ordered organosilica mesophase. Moreover, the mesoporous organosilicas prepared with the PEO-PLGA-PEO block templates maintain their structural integrity for up to 25 days in boiling water at 100℃. The mesoporous materials with large pores and high hydrothermal stability prepared in this study has a potential for many applications.
To convert sewage sludge to energy, drying-gasification characteristics during microwave heating were studied. During the gasification of carbon dioxide, the main products were gas, followed by char, and tar in terms of the amount. The main components of the producer gas were carbon monoxide and hydrogen including a small amount of methane and light hydrocarbons. They showed a sufficient heating value as a fuel. The generated tar is gravimetric tar, which is total tar. As light tars, benzene (light aromatic tar) was a major light tar. Naphthalene, anthracene, and pyrene (light polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon tars) were also generated, but in relatively small amounts. Ammonia and hydrogen cyanide (precursor for NOx) were generated from thermal decomposition of tar containing protein and nitrogen in sewage sludge. In the case of sludge char, its average pore diameter was small, but specific area, pore volume, and adsorption amounts were relatively large, resulting in superior adsorption characteristics.
Porous low reflective coating films of SiO2.ZrO2 system were prepared from the mixed alkoxide solutions of Zr(O-nC3H7)4 and partially prehydrolyzed TEOS by the sol-gel method using the dip-coating technique. In the case of 90SiO2.10ZrO2 porous coating films with HCl and H2O content was 0.3 mole and 4 mole, 378 m2/g of the specific surface area, 0.254 cm3/g of total pore volume, 30-50$\AA$ of average pore diameter. The transmittance of 90SiO2.10ZrO2 porous coated films was 95.38% at the wavelength of 550 nm, compared with the parent glass, the transmittance was increased with 4.38%.

A variation of pore structure of shotcrete matrix was experimented by Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry, and the relation with compressive strength was also examined. As a result of the Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry(MIP) test, RM-P1 Batch the macropore diameter of the RM-BFS2 and RM-BFS3 Batch than to have a relatively macropore can see a lot of long-term durability performance degradation. Also, K and N Batch the current is applied to the mine if the factors on shotcrete durability performance of the macropore volume of the entire appears to be a long-term durability performance in the fall.

Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) with high surface area and pore volume were modified with metal Ni impregnation and fluorination and investigated hydrogen storage properties by volumetric method. Micropore volume values of ACFs obtained from surface modification with Ni impregnation and fluorination were decreased 9 and 35 %, respectively. Hydrogen storage capacities of fluorinated ACFs were slightly changed, on the other hand, that of Ni impregnated ACF was considerably increased. It means that hydrogen was not only adsorbed on ACF surface, but also on Ni metal surface by means of dissociation. Although the microphone volume of ACF modified with fluorination was decreased, its hydrogen storage were found not to be changed compared with fresh ACF. These results indicated that the surface of ACF after fluorination modification may be strongly attracted hydrogen due to high electronegativity of fluorine. Therefore, it was proven that hydrogen storage capacity was related with micropore volume and surface property of carbon materials as well as specific surface area.
2-methylisoborneol (MIB) is a musty odor compound produced as a secondary metabolite by some cyanobacteria and actinomycetes. It is lead to distrust in tap water due to taste and odor. It is well known that activated carbon (AC) adsorption is the best available technology to remove 2-MIB and geosmin. In this study, physical characteristics of virgin AC and reactivated AC was compared. The effect of variation of NOM molecular weight on adsorption of 2-MIB in virgin AC and reactivated AC were also evaluated. BET surface area was decreased by 13 to 23% and total pore volume was decreased by 18 to 21% due to first and second reactivation compare to the virgin carbon. However, mesopore volume ($V_{meso}$) was increased about 14% after reactivation. It showed that micropore volume was decreased and move to mesopore or macropore after reactivation. Decreased adsorption capacity of 2-MIB was greatly related to below 3000Da. Adsorption capacity of 2-MIB was rather greater in virgin AC than in reactivated, which is strongly related to micropore volume.
The palladium and gold nanoparticles containing PAN-based active carbon fiber (ACF) with a high specific surface area were prepared. Using the BET, TEM, FE-SEM, and XPS, their specific surface area and pore volume, pore structure, and the change in surface oxygen groups with time were analyzed and $SO_2$ adsorption performances were investigated. Because of the impregnating process, the micropore volume was mostly decreased from 95.5% to 30.5~43.7% compared with the total pore volume. And the change in surface oxygen groups with time was higher for the metal salt than the nanoparticles. Also, $SO_2$ breakthrough time of PAN-ACFs impregnated with Au nanoparticles and metal salts did not change compared with that of the non-impregnated PAN-ACF. But the PAN-ACF impregnated with Pd nanoparticles (100 ppm) showed good $SO_2$ adsorption performance as the breakthrough time of 880 sec. These results indicated that the $SO_2$ adsorption performance depended on the change in surface oxygen groups with time and the moderate impregnation of Pd nanoparticles on the PAN-ACF caused the increase in the $SO_2$ adsorption performance by a catalytic action.
