  • As the world's population grows and food needs diversify, the demand for horticultural crops for beneficial traits is increasing. In order to meet this demand, it is necessary to develop suitable cultivars and breeding methods accordingly. Breeding methods have changed over time. With the recent development of sequencing technology, the concept of genomic selection (GS) has emerged as large-scale genome information can be used. GS shows good predictive ability even for quantitative traits by using various markers, breaking away from the limitations of Marker Assisted Selection (MAS). Moreover, GS using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) has been studied recently. In this study, we aim to build a system that selects phenotype-related markers using the genomic information of the pepper population and trains a genomic selection model to select individuals from the validation population. We plan to establish an optimal genome wide association analysis model by comparing and analyzing five models. Validation of molecular markers by applying linkage markers discovered through genome wide association analysis to breeding populations. Finally, we plan to establish an optimal genome selection model by comparing and analyzing 12 genome selection models. Then We will use the genome selection model of the learning group in the breeding group to verify the prediction accuracy and discover a prediction model.

  • To investigate the SEDs of galaxies considering the dust extinction processes in the galactic disks, we present the population synthesis models for normal galaxies with dusty disks. We use PEGASE (Fioc & Rocca-Volmerange 1997) to model them with standard input parameters for stars and new dust parameters. We find that the model results are strongly dependent on the dust parameters as well as other parameters (e.g. star formation history). We compare the model results with the observations and discuss about the possible explanations. We find that the dust opacity functions derived from studies of asymptotic giant branch stars are useful for modeling a galaxy with a dusty disk.

  • Background: Rapid population aging in developed countries has resulted in the working-age population increasingly being tasked with the provision of informal care. Methods: An educational intervention was delivered to 21 carer-employees employed at a Canadian University. Work role function, job security, schedule control, work-family conflict, familywork conflict, and supervisor and coworker support were measured as part of an aggregated workplace experience score. This score was used to measure changes pre/post intervention and at a follow-up period approximately 12 months post intervention. Three random intercept models were created via linear mixed modeling to illustrate changes in participants' workplace experience across time. Results: All three models reported statistically significant random and fixed effects intercepts, with a positive coefficient of change. Conclusion: This suggests that the intervention demonstrated an improvement of the workplace experience score for participants over time, with the association particularly strong immediately after intervention.

  • This study proposes a new ERAM model with building population weighting. Previous studies of applying weightings on ERAM model on the scale of urban space were focused on the relationship between the street and the human behavior. However, this study focuses on the influences that buildings give to human behavior and develops a building population weighted ERAM model. This research starts by analyzing ERAM model to its basic compositions, which are adjacency matrix and row vector. It applies building population weighting to the row vector, while previous studies put weightings in the adjacency matrix. Building population weighted ERAM model calculates the building population weighting based on GIS data, which provides objective and massive data of buildings in the urban scale. For the verification of the model, Insa-dong and Myeong-dong were analyzed with both ERAM model and building population weighted ERAM model. The results were analyzed through the correlation test with actual pedestrian population data of the two districts. As a result, the explanation ability of building population weighted ERAM model for the pedestrian population turned out to be higher than the ERAM model. Since building population weighted ERAM model has the structure that can be combined with other weighted ERAM models, it is expected to develop a multi-weighted ERAM model with better explanation ability as a further study.

  • This paper proposes a modified version of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) called Information Diffusion PSO (ID-PSO). In PSO algorithms, premature convergence of particles could be prevented by defining proper population topology. In this paper, we propose a variant of PSO algorithm using a new population topology. We draw inspiration from the theory of information diffusion which models the transmission of information or a rumor as one-to-one interactions between people. In ID-PSO, a particle interacts with only one particle at each iteration and they share their personal best solutions and recognized best solutions. Each particle recognizes the best solution that it has experienced or has learned from another particle as the recognized best. Computational experiments on the benchmark functions show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared with the existing methods which use different population topologies.

  • This study deal with the traffic accident. The purpose of this study is to develop the accident density models reflecting the transportation and socioeconomic characteristics based on 230 zones of Korea. In this study, The models which are tested to be statistically significant are developed through multiple linear regression analysis. The main research results are as follows. First, in the transportation-based model, road length, avenue ratio, number of intersections and tunnels are analyzed to be positive to the model, however, school zone is analyzed to be negative to the model. Second, in the socioeconomic-based model, population density, transportation vulnerable ratio, children and truck ratio are analyzed to be positive to the model. Finally, in the integrated models, road ratio, population density, transportation vulnerable ratio, children ratio, truck ratio and number of companies are analyzed to be positive, however, school zone is analyzed to be negative to the model. This results could be expected to give good implications to accident-reduction policy-making.

  • We present a study of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) contribution to the total Ks band luminosity of star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) as a function of age. AGB stars, a representative intermediate-age population, are a strong source of NIR to MIR emission so that they are a critical component for understanding the near-to-mid infrared observation of galaxies. Current calibration of IR emission in evolutionary population synthesis (EPS) models for galaxies is mainly based on a small number of LMC star clusters. However, each LMC star cluster with intermediate age contains only a few AGB stars so that it suffers from a stochastic effect. Therefore a large number of them are needed for solid calibration of the EPS models. We study physical properties of a large number of LMC star clusters to estimate the Ks band luminosity fraction of AGB stars in star clusters as a function of age. We discuss the stochastic effect in calibrating models, and the importance of this calibration for studying the evolution of not only nearby galaxies but also of high-z galaxies.

  • This study provides an empirical analysis of location competition for demand maximization by central place theory among physicians in nonmetropolitan areas of Korea. The results show that the primary care physicians distribute themselves evenly from urban communities to rural communities. The subspecialists, however, cluster together in major cities rather than decentralize themselves in rural counties. This study establishes the three statistical models : Primary care physicians, subspecialist physicians, and total physicians. Two models of primary care physicians and total physicians have a strong significance in multiple regression analysis (p=-.0001). The primary care model explains approximately 45% of the variation and the total physicians model explains approximately 70% of the variation in physician/1,000 population ratios across national counties. The subspecialist physicians model analysze the tobit regreassion because of the left consored and truncated values(57 cases = 0). In all three models, analysis of the coefficiencts for physician centralization degrees in the 0- to 5- and 5- to 10-km rings around the core county reveals each a positive and negative association betwee these degrees and the physician/1,000 population ratios in the core county. Also, the results provide moderate evidence that the relationship between clinic physicians and community hospitals is competitive, and the relationship between clinic physicians and pharmaceutists is synergistic. This suggests that public policy makers and local self-governing bodies must take an active role to ensure procider availability and the regional health planning in all nonmetropolitan areas of Korea.

  • Pollution, climate change, and waste accumulation are only some of the new problems that have arisen because of the exponential population growth of the past few decades. As the global population expands, managing municipal solid trash becomes increasingly difficult. This is by far the most difficult obstacle for governments to overcome, especially in less developed nations. The improper open dumping of trash, which is causing mayhem across the country, has two immediate effects: it contaminates groundwater and surface water. Air pollution and the accumulation of greenhouse gases are both exacerbated by the release of methane and other harmful waste gases. Leachate from the landfill leaks underground and pollutes groundwater. In most cases, leachate moves into the groundwater zone and pollutes it after forming in association with precipitation that infiltrates via waste. This has far-reaching effects on people's health and disturbs the natural environment. This review article critically examines the current state of Solid Waste Management (SWM), addressing both the highlighted concerns and the government management solutions that have been put in place to address these issues. In addition, the constraints, and difficulties that India will face in the future in terms of solid waste management and the role of models for such a system are discussed.
