  • Roe Deer has been preserved for 25 years by the local government and the residents in Jejudo. However, the damage and harm of crops of the residents by Roe Deer are increasing as well. So, some experts worry about the unstability of ecosystem in Mt. Halla where Roe Deer live. This paper discuss the suitable number of Roe Deer population in Jejudo to protect the ecosystem in Mt. Halla and minimize the damage of residents in Jejudo. With system dynamics modeling and simulation, the population of Roe Deer at present is estimated about 2,300. However, the population of Roe Deer stays 'unstable balance'. So, a little change such as poaching and the increase of wild dogs may make the balance of ecosystem broken. According to the result of policy test simulation, we should keep on watching the poaching and maintain the number of wild dogs at about 100, so that the ecosystem in Jejudo can be stable. To reduce the moving of Roe Deer to low region, moreover, we should protect the Mt. Halla which is Roe Deer's habitat. If we are indifferent about these efforts, the ecosystem of Roe Deer in Mt. Halla will be ruined.

  • This research primarily aims at analyzing major crises originating from marginalizing population, especially in counties. In addition, based on the system dynamics approaches, it pays attention to divulging causal loop structure which has been rather strengthened by diverse interactions among key variables. Judging from simulation works, even though Korea is exposed to unprecedented aging trends over decades, its counter response seems inadequate and insufficient, mostly dismissing a series of impact embedded in the aging dynamics. This research statistically confirms that demographic marginalization trends have already begun in the villages within Eup and Myon counties. Furthermore, this research pinpoints out the fact that it would be almost impossible for majority of villages within Eup and Myon counties to escape from going out of existence in the course of time, as they tend to be entrapped vicious cycle of marginalization or extinction.

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide a careful and accessible exposition of diffusive logistic equations with indefinite weights which model population dynamics in environments with strong spatial heterogeneity. We prove that the most favorable situations will occur if there is a relatively large favorable region (with good resources and without crowding effects) located some distance away from the boundary of the environment. Moreover we prove that a population will grow exponentially until limited by lack of available resources if the diffusion rate is below some critical value; this idea is generally credited to Thomas Malthus. On the other hand, if the diffusion rate is above this critical value, then the model obeys the logistic equation introduced by P. F. Verhulst .

  • A model combining multi-dimensional discretized population balance equations with a computational fluid dynamics simulation (CFD-DPBE model) was developed and applied to simulate turbulent flocculation and sedimentation processes in sediment retention basins. Computation fluid dynamics and the discretized population balance equations were solved to generate steady state flow field data and simulate flocculation and sedimentation processes in a sequential manner. Up-to-date numerical algorithms, such as operator splitting and LeVeque flux-corrected upwind schemes, were applied to cope with the computational demands caused by complexity and nonlinearity of the population balance equations and the instability caused by advection-dominated transport. In a modeling and simulation study with a two-dimensional simplified pond system, applicability of the CFD-DPBE model was demonstrated by tracking mass balances and floc size evolutions and by examining particle/floc size and solid concentration distributions. Thus, the CFD-DPBE model may be used as a valuable simulation tool for natural and engineered flocculation and sedimentation systems as well as for flocculant-aided sediment retention ponds.

  • Since the mid-1990s, Korea has recorded low population growth rate. Based on the figures provided by the Statistical Korea, Korea may be even confronted with decreasing trends in the total population at the end of 2010s. In addition, Korea may experience the hyper-aged society in the mid-2020s. In the depopulation era, we have to devise alternative urban management policies reflecting low and reversed trends in the urban population. It is almost certain that urban policy-makers have to deal with a new series of urban problems, even jeopardizing the continuity of urban territories. In order to minimize the negative impact derived from depopulated phenomena, they have to develop sound and sustainable urban policy alternatives. This research adopts system dynamics approaches, revealing key factors exerting significant impact on the existing urban management policies. In specific, it pays attention to major causal loops, reinforcing or balancing behavioral.

  • This paper studies parameter estimation for a first-order hyperbolic integro-differential equation modelling one-sex population dynamics. A second-order finite difference scheme is used to estimate parameters such as the age-specific death-rate and the age-specific fertility from fully discrete observations on the population. The function space parameter estimation convergence of this scheme is proved. Also, numerical simulations are performed.

  • The present study aims to analyze the biological aspects and population dynamics of Indian mackerel in Barru waters. Data was collected in Barru for 11 months, from June 2022 to April 2023. The observed parameters of biological aspects included gonadal maturation stages (GMSs), size at first gonadal maturation, and length-weight relationship. Meanwhile, the aspects of population dynamics encompass age group, growth, mortality rate, and exploitation rate. Data analysis consisted of morphological selection of general maturation stages, Spearman-Kärber method in estimating gonadal first maturation size, Bhattacharya method in identifying age group, von Bertalanffy function through FISAT II to measure growth (L and K), Pauly Model to estimate mortality rate, Beverton & Holt Model to estimate Y/R, and virtual population analysis (VPA) analysis to estimate stock and fish yield. The results demonstrated that GMS I was observed to be dominant, followed by stages II and III. The initial gonadal maturation was estimated to be 17.98-19.28 cm (FL) for females and 17.98-19.27 cm (FL) for males. The length-weight relationship in male and female Indian mackerels indicated a positive allometric growth. The mode grouping analysis results from the fork length measurement revealed three age groups. It was also identified that the asymptotic length (L) = 29.5 cm (fork length), growth rate coefficient (K) = 0.46 per year, and theoretical age at zero length (t0) = -0.3576 per year. Total mortality (Z) = 2.67 per year, natural mortality (M) = 1.10 per year, fishing mortality (F) = 1.57 per year, and exploitation rate (E) = 0.59, the actual Y/R = 0.083 gram/recruitment, and optimal Y/R 0.03 gram/recruitment. Fishing mortality is higher than the natural mortality rate, and a high exploitation value (E > 0.5) also reflects over-exploitation. VPA analysis on fish yields and stock estimation reported a highly exploited rate between the 11.5 cm and 14.5 cm length classes and an exceeding current yield of 467.07 tons/year with a recommended yield of 233.53 tons/year to ensure population sustainability.

  • A Korean endemic and evergreen small tree ' Dendropanax morbifera $L_{EV}$.(Araliaceae)' is a component of evergreen forest and mainly idstributein sourthern region and islands in Korea. A local population of D. morbifera which is located between evergreen and deciduous forest within 50m x 50m quadrate was investigated to ascertain the change of population structure, emergence and growth dynamics of seedlings and saplings, and pattern of spatial distribution by the temproal and spatial expansion of population . The result of analysis of population structure by Importnace Value(IV), evergreen forest showed a high species diversity of evergreen tree species such as Cinnamomum japonicum, Machilus japonica, Neolitsea serica, Daphniphyllum macropodum, Ligustrum japonicum, and etc, in middle and under story than in upper story where Camelia japonica and Quercus acuta were dominant. And in conterminous deciduous fores, the major component of evergreen forest in this region, Camellia japonica, Quercus acuta, evergreen tree of Lauraceae and etc. were abundant in only under story. IV of D. morbifera differed from among three story. In comparative analysis of emergence and growth dynamics of D. morbifera seedlings and saplings between evergreen and deciduous forest, emergece and density of seedlings were significantly greater in evergreen than in deciduous forest, and growth of height and basal diameter of seedlings and saplings were slightly larger in evergreen than in deciduous forest. The spatial distribution patterns by Moristia's index mapping of indivuduals using a lattice method of XY axis within this population showed that seedlings(age up to 2 years) and saplings (age>2 years and height<1m) both evergreen and deciduous forest were more or less aggregated apart from mature trees, and thougth intermediate trees(height>1m and dbh<10cm) had a aggregated distribution pattern, mature trees(dbh>10cm were uniform. In conclusion , the expansion of D. morbfera population from evergreen to deciduous forest accompanied with a mumber of evergreen woody species, and also, emergence and recruitment, and growth of seedlings were greatly influenced moisture and canopy by around community structure.

  • This study was designed to investigate population dynamics of cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne F.(Coleoptera, Anobiidae), at differential house types in Korea. In hot season, July 24 to August 24, cigarette beetle adults were captured by sex-pheromon-trap at all house types which were located in Wonjoo, Shintanjin and Suwon area. Cigarette beetle adults were captured only at apartments where located at same area by sex-pheromon-trap during overwintering period in Korea. No relation was detected between a limit of the distribution of cigarette beetle, L. serricorne F. and the distance from tobacco storage warehouses to houses in Korea.
