Along with the fast development of electronics, the demands of portable electronics and wireless sensors are growing rapidly. The need for self-powering materials capable of powering the electrical devices attached to them is increasing, The piezoelectric effect of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) can be used for this purpose. PVDF has a special crystal structure consisting of a ${\beta}$-phase that can produce piezoelectricity. In this paper, multilayer PVDF films were fabricated to increase the ${\beta}$-phase content. A solution of 10% concentration N;N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) in PVDF (PVDF/DMAc) was used to fabricate the films via spin coating technique with the following optimum process parameters: a spin rate of 850 rpm, spin time of 60 s, drying temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, and drying time of 30 min, Compared with single-layer PVDF films, the multilayer films exhibited higher ${\beta}$-phase content. The ${\beta}$-phase content of the films increased gradually with increasing number of layers until 4, Maximum ratio of ${\beta}$-phase content was 7.72.
For application to several MHz photoacoustic imaging systems, a needle hydrophone was designed and fabricated by using PMN-PZT piezoelectric single crystal, and its characteristics were evaluated through comparison with a commercial PVDF(Polybinylidene Fluoride) hydrophone of which receiving sensitivity is known. The simulation using the KLM model results show that the peak receiving impulse response for $50{\Omega}$ terminating impedance of the fabricated hydrophone is -261.6 dB re $1V/{\mu}Pa$ and the frequency response is relatively flat over 2 ~ 12 MHz with fluctuation less than 5 dB. The measurement results using tone burst signals also show that it has higher (ave. 10.9 dB) sensitivity than the commercial hydrophone in 2 ~ 8 MHz, and the receiving sensitivity of $-255.8{\pm}2.8$ dB re $1V/{\mu}Pa$ was measured for the fabricated hydrophone. In addition, it is known that the photoacoustic signals and the image of a hair obtained by a mechanical scanned photoacoustic imaging system with the fabricated hydrophone were bigger and better than those obtained with the commercial hydrophone.

This article explains the experimental results of ferroelectric polarization switching (FPS) of potassium nitrate ($KNO_3$) with different polymers such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) using simple melt-press techniques. To analyze the ferroelectric polarization switching in potassium nitrate ($KNO_3$) composite films at room temperature, we applied the Ishibashi and Takagi theory (based on Avrami model) to the switching current transient. To investigate the dimensionality of domain growth, the ferroelectric polarization switching current (FPS current) was observed from the square - wave bipolar signals across a resistance of $0.1k{\Omega}$ in series with the composite films. The existence of a switching current transient pulse confirmed the ferroelectricity and indicated the stability of the ferroelectric phase (phase III) of $KNO_3$ at room temperature. Polarization hysteresis (P-E) characteristics supported the prominent features of ferroelectric polarization switching in the composite films at room temperature.

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) / polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric composite films for nanogenerator devices were fabricated by spray coating method. When the CNT/PVDF mixture solution passes through the spray nozzle with small diameter by the compressed nitrogen gas, electric charges are generated in the liquid by a triboelectric effect. Then randomly distributed ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film could be re-oriented by the electric field resulting from the accumulated electrical charges, and might be resulted in extremely one-directionally aligned ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film without additional electric field for poling. X-ray diffraction patterns were used to investigate crystal structure of the CNT/PVDF composite films. It was confirmed that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF crystalline in the film. Therefore we could obtain the poled CNT/PVDF piezoelectric composite films by the spray coating method without additional poling process. Charge accumulation and resulting electric field generation mechanism by spray coating method were shown in Fig. 1. The capacitance of the CNT/PVDF films increased by adding CNTs into the PVDF matrix, and finally saturated. However, the I-V curves didn't show any saturation effect in the CNT concentration range of 0~4 wt%. Therefore we can control the performance of the devices fabricated from the CNT/PVDF composite film by adjusting the current level resulted from the CNT concentration with the uniform capacitance value.
Mechanical energy can be harvested by triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) from biological and environmental systems. In wearable electronics, TENG has a lot of significance as biomechanical energy can be harvested from the motion of humans, which is applied in vibrational sensors. Wearable TENG is prone to moisture and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an excellent hydrophobic material used in these applications. The presence of highly electronegative fluorine atoms leads to very low surface energy. At the same time, the performance of the device increases due to the efficient capture of the electrons on the microporous membrane surface. This similar behavior occurs with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) due to the presence of fluoride atoms, which is relatively less as compared to PTFE.

A method of light pre-irradiation, one of methods modifying hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic surface in a membrane, was proposed to overcome the drawback of previous methods such as blending, chemical treatment and post-irradiation, Process of membrane preparation in the study was comprised of 4 parts as follows: firstly process of precursor preparation to introduce hydrophilic nature under atmosphere and aqueous vapor by irradiating electron beam (EB), secondly process of dope solution preparation to cast on non-woven fabrics, thirdly process of casting to prepare membrane and finally process of coagulation in non-solvent to form porous structure. The merit of this method might show simple process as well as homogenous modification compared to previous methods. To carry it out, precursor was prepared by irradiating EB to powder PVDF at 75~125 K Gray dose. Precursor prepared was analyzed by FTIR, EDS and DSC to confirm the introduction of hydrophilic function and its mechanism. From their results, it was inferred I conformed that hydrophilic function was hydroxy1 and it was introduced by dehydrozenation. Hydrophilicity of membranes prepared was evaluated by contact angle (pristine PVDF : $62^{\circ}$, 125 K Gray-PVDF$13^{\circ}$). Porosity was evaluated by mercury intrusion method, simultaneously morpholoy and surface pore size were observed by SEM phothographs. The result showed the trend that more dose of EB led to smaller pore size and to lower porosity (pristine PVDF : 82%, 125 K Gray-PVDF : 63%). Trend of water permeability was similar to result above (pristine PVDF : 892 LMH, 125 K Gray-PVDF : 355 LMH).
In this study, we used thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) to produce water treatment membrane and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), silica with excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance to evaluate characterization of the membrane. The diluents used for the characterization were dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). We observed the crystallization temperature, cloud point and SEM images to see the manufacture conditions according to the ratio of PVDF and silica. The crystallization temperature and cloud point increased with the contents of silica. Through the phase diagram drawn from these results, the conditions for the preparation of the membrane confirmed.
PVDF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride) thin films were prepared by using a physical vapor deposition system. Thin films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The melting point$(T_m)$ of PVDF thin films increases with increasing substrate temperature. It is found that the degree of crystallinity of PVDF thin films increases from 49.8 to 67% with increasing substrate temperature from 30 to $80^{\circ}C$.
Charge decay, thermally stimulated current(TSC), charging and discharging currents(I) are measured for negatively corona-charged polymers. In this study, we will make an experiment in charge decay on polymer surface, TSC, polarity effect and the others in order to analysis it's mechanism. Especially polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) film is the best functional material which has been so far. Therefore, It's worthy of notice to investigate it's characteristic. And then some other functional polymers will be focused on. An experimental result was missed out for the shortage of setting. So, this thesis will be explained on the theory and direction of reseach hereafter.
Chemically stable Polyvinylidene fluoride-hexa-fluoropropane (PVDF-HFP) copolymer asymmetric membranes were prepared by the conventional phase inversion process, using Dimethyacetamide (DMAc) as a solvent and water as a non-solvent. To control the pore size and porosity of the PVDF-HFP membranes, tetra-ethoxysilane (TEOS) was used as a pore-forming agent. The prepared membranes were characterized, using several analytical methods such as Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FESEM). TEOS turned out to increase porosity and make homogeneous pores on the membranes. Depending on the composition of the dope solutions, the pore size was ranged from 0.1 to 1.0 ${\mu}m$. The flux of the PVDF-HFP membranes prepared by using TEOS as a pore forming agent was increased substantially without much decrease in the rejection. When 15 wt% PVDF-HFP solution was blended with 13 wt% TEOS solution at composition ratio of 70/30 in wt%, the water flux at 2 bars was about 2 $m^3/m^2day$.
