Surface Structure and Electrical Properties of Polyurethane LB Monolayers (폴리우레탄 LB단분자막의 표면구조 이미지와 전기적 특성)

  • We attempted to fabricate polyurethane derivatives (PU-CN, PU-DCM) LB films by using LB method. Also, we investigated the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface by surface pressure-area ($\pi$-A) isotherms. And, the surface morphologies and the physicochemical properties of LB films were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and UV-vis spectroscopy, respectively. Also, the electrical properties of polyurethane derivatives LB films were investigated by using the conductivity and the dielectric constant. In the AFM images, we conclude that surface morphology of PU-DCM LB films is smooth and homogeneous and has optimal hydrophobicity and good stability, whereas PU-CN LB films give rougher surfaces with more excess material. In the I-V characteristics, the conductivity is different as to the polyurethane derivatives, it is considered that this phenomena could be described by the difference of lumophore pendant which was adhered at PU main chain.

Controlled Release of Drugs from Reservoir Type Devices Coated with Porous Polyurethane Membranes (다공성 폴리우레탄으로 피막된 Reservoir형 약물 조절 방출 시스템)

  • Reservoir type devices were designed for long-term implantable drug delivery system. The reservoir type device was prepared with the polymethacrylic acid gel coated with polyurethane membrane. Release controlling agent (RCA) were employed to control drug release from devices via generation of micropores in the membranes. The polyurethane membrane functioned as a rate controlling barrier. The drug release pattern of hydrogel demonstrated zero order kinetics. The release rate of drugs could be regulated by varying hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity and content of the RCA, as well as the thickness of the polyurethane membrane. The release of drugs from this system was governed by pore mechanism via simple diffusion and osmotic pressure.

Preparation and Properties Measurement of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate / Water-dispersed polyurethane composites

  • In this study, 2-hedroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) was graft synthesized on water-dispersed polyurethane using polytetramethylene ether glycoll (PTMG), and then the film of resin was prepared and the physical properties of polyurethane resin were measured. The mechanical properties of the synthesized polyurethane resin were measured by using FT-IR, UTM, adhesion performance measuring instrument. As a result of tensile strength measurement, the tensile strength of HPUD4 with high 2-HEMA content was increased to $5.05kgf/mm^2$, the elongation was measured as 285% of the HPUD1 sample not containing 2-HEMA and adhesive strength of HPUD4 sample was measured at 9.1 sec to 635 psi.

Study on properties of geopolymer-polyurethane sponge composite

  • A newly conceived geopolymer composite was fabricated by a combination of the geopolymer and polyurethane sponge. The density and porosity of hardened geopolymer composite, corresponded to different pore sizes of polyurethane sponge, exhibited no significant differences from each other. However, the mechanical behavior, the compressive strength and flexural strength, showed slight differences accordingly. Fracture of the geopolymer composite exposed to high compressive load was not observed from all specimens containing polyurethane sponge. The toughness enhancement of the geopolymer composite, due to spontaneous elasticity of polyurethane sponge, crack spread, and crack diffraction, was identified through the stress-strain curve and microstructure of fracture surface. The newly designed geopolymer composite having a 3-dimensional sponge skeleton showed relatively higher flexural strength of 8.0 MPa than other conventional geopolymer composites.

  • In this study, polyurethane-silica composite foams were synthesized to analyze thermal insulation characteristics and mechanical properties. In order to synthesize polyurethane-silica composite foams, polyester-silica composite polyols were first synthesized via a polymerization reaction with silica sol, dicarboxylic acid and glycol in monomer state. Physical properties of polyurethane-silica composite foams synthesized using the composite polyols were analyzed. From the thermal conductivity analysis, no significant differences among HPUF0, HPUF1, HPUF3 and HPUF5 were found. The compressive strength of polyurethane-silica composite foams increased as the silica content increased. The mechanical property of HPUF5 was also about 25% higher than that of HPUF0.

  • Weatherstrip coatings of urethane and silicon type which are fit to EPDM and thermoplastic materials are used in sealing systems for automotive applications for noise reduction and high slip characteristics for external applications, respectively. Polyurethane binder was successfully synthesized from poly(butyladiphate)diol (PBAD), poly(tetramethylene)glycol (PTMG) and isocyanate as starting materials. Then, polyurethane coating agents were prepared by using various additives. To investigate effects of segment types on the abrasion resistance of polyurethane coating agents, thin films based on polyurethane coating materials were fabricated. With increasing the amount of hard segment in the coating agent, abrasion resistance, modulus and tensile strength of the coating films were improved, but the elongation of the coating films was decreased.

Using Neural Networks to Predict the Sense of Touch of Polyurethane Coated Fabrics (신경망이론은 이용한 폴리우레탄 코팅포 촉감의 예측)

  • Neural networks are used to predict the sense of touch of polyurethane coated fabrics. In this study, we used the multi layer perceptron (MLP) neural networks in Neural Connection. The learning algorithm for neural networks is back-propagation algorithm. We used 29 polyurethane coated fabrics to train the neural networks and 4 samples to test the neural networks. Input variables are 17 mechanical properties measured with KES-FB system, and output variable is the sense of touch of polyurethane coated fabrics. The influence of MLF function, the number of hidden layers, and the number of hidden nodes on the prediction accuracy is investigated. The results were as follows: MLP function, the number of hidden layer and the number of hidden nodes have some influence on the prediction accuracy. In this work, tangent function, the architecture of the double hidden layers and the 24-12-hidden nodes has the best prediction accuracy with the lowest RMS error. Using the neural networks to predict the sense of touch of polyurethane coated fabrics has hotter prediction accuracy than regression approach used in our previous study.

Nonliear vibration analysis of polyurethane foam (폴리우레탄 폼의 비선형 진동특성 해석)

  • A dynamic modeling and prediction of polyurethane foam material, which is used as the seat in vehicles is very important for improving the ride quality of vehicle occupants. In this study, parameters to define the nonlinear stiffness and time-variant characteristics of the viscoelasticity of polyurethane foam were obtained using a static compression test. Polynomial functions and convolution integral were used to model the nonlinear and viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane foam mathematically. The dynamic behaviors excited by the seat floor displacement were analyzed using a numerical integration method for the nonlinear vibration model. As a result, the viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane foam was found to be an important parameter for improving the ride quality.

A study on synthesis and mechanical properties polyurethane-acrylic hybrid resin with milk casein (Milk casein을 이용한 수용성 polyurethane-acrylic hybrid resin의 합성 및 물성 영향에 관한 연구)

  • For this research, prepared water soluble milk casein resin and waterborne polyurethane-acrylic resin. Use these resin, this article has been analyzed about change of mechanical properties by increasing amount of casein resin in polyurethane-acrylic resin on coated leather. According to measure data for solvent resistance, WPA(waterborne polyurethane-acrylic resin) resin and WPA-C1, C2, C3(samples of polyurethane-acrylic resin with milk casein resin) had good property. As known in the results, increase of casein constant did not influence to big change of hybrid resin properties. As test of tensile strength, WPA had lowest tensile characteristic(1.598 $kg_f/mm^2$) and WPA-C3 had highest tensile characteristic(1.718 $kg_f/mm^2$). Also best properties of abrasion was WPA-C3(06.021 mg.loss). In elongation case, WPA had best properties(754 %) in this experiment.

Evaluation of validity of polyurethane model fabricated by intra-oral scanning method (구강 내 스캐닝 방법에 의해 제작된 폴리우레탄 모형의 정확도 평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was evaluate the validity of polyurethane model fabricated by intra oral scanning method. Methods: Ten sam cases of stone models were manufactured from master model, and polyurethane models were made with the intra oral scanning and CNC milling method. One examiner individually measured 6 distances(intercanine distance, intermolar distance, two dental arch lengths(right, left) and two diagonal of dental arch lengths(right, left) on the stone models and the polyurethane models. The Mann-Whitney U test(${\alpha}$=0.05) were used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean difference between measurements made directly on the stone models and those made on the polyurethane models was 0.31-0.38mm. No statistically differences between the two groups were founded 4 distances(p>0.05), but 2 distances were statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion: Stone models showed larger than polyurethane models fabricated by intra oral scanning method.
