Recently, high voltage outdoor ploymer insulators have been widely used commercially owing to their excellent electrical and mechanical properties, superior comtamination flashover performance, light weight, easy installation or handing, no maintenance during service, competitive price and so on. compared to porcelaain and glass insulators. For instance, silicone rubber(SR) for polymeric insulators specially has much superior insulating and anti-pollution performance due to its specific hydrophobicity even in severe contaminated environments. We have investigated surface discharge current characteristics of silicone rubbers(SR) for HV outdoor composite insulation specimen under accelerated aging codition using a computer measuring system. The relations of average leakage current and surface discharge current repetition rates and discharge current amplitude, the distribution of discharge current amplitude were studied to investigate electrical conduction of silicone rubber surface with the salt fog condition.
This paper investigates the effect of linear and non-linear distribution of carbon nanotube volume fraction in the FG-CNTRC beams on the critical buckling by using higher-order shear deformation theories. Here, the material properties of the CNTRC beams are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a new exponential power law distribution in terms of the carbon nanotube volume fractions. The single-walled carbon nanotube is aligned and distributed in the polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement; the material properties of the CNTRC beams are described by using the rule of mixture. The governing equations are derived through using Hamilton's principle. The Navier solution method is used under the specified boundary conditions for simply supported CNTRC beams. The mathematical models provided in this work are numerically validated by comparison with some available results. New results of critical buckling with the non-linear distribution of CNT volume fraction in different patterns are presented and discussed in detail, and compared with the linear distribution. Several aspects of beam types, CNT volume fraction, exponent degree (n), aspect ratio, etc., are taken into this investigation. It is revealed that the influences of non-linearity distribution in the beam play an important role to improve the mechanical properties, especially in buckling behavior. The results show that the X-Beam configuration is the strongest among all different types of CNTRC beams in supporting the buckling loads.
Fracture analysis of coating cracking on a substrate system described in a companion paper was applied and verified by four-point bending tests. The multiple cracking of coating was predicted using a fracture mechanics approach. The strain energy release rate (G) due to the formation of a new crack in a coating was obtained. A crack density vs. strain data of metallic and polymeric substrate was used to get the in-situ fracture toughness of coating with respect to various baking time and temperature. The $G_c$ was decreased as the baking temperature and time was increased. This paper gave insight about usefulness of four-point bending test for fracture toughness evaluation of coating and it gave a new method for in-situ coating toughness.
In the present study, impact tests were carried out to investigate the crashworthy behaviour of the expanded polypropylene under the constant incident energy (100 J and 200 J) with five different combinations of striker mass and velocity. Also, preliminary quasi-static test was performed to obtain basic characteristics of the expanded polypropylene. MTS 858 and Instron dynatup 9250 HV were used for the quasi-static test and impact tests, respectively. In consequence, it was found that the impact energy absorption characteristics of the expanded polypropylene was more influenced by the striker mass instead of the velocity of the striker.

The Charpy and Izod impact tests are the most prevalent techniques used to characterize the effects of high impulse loads on ploymeric materials. An analysis method for rubber toughened PVC is suggested to evaluate critical dynamic strain energy release rates(G$\_$c/) from the Charpy impact energy measurements. An instrumented Charpy impact tester was used to extract ancillary information concerning fracture parameters in addition to total fracture energies and maximum critical loads. The dynamic stress intensity factor Kid was computed for varying amounts of rubber contents from the obtained maximum critical loads and also toughening effects were investigated as well.

In this study, nonlocal nonlinear buckling analysis of embedded polymeric temperature-dependent microplates resting on an elastic matrix as orthotropic temperature-dependent elastomeric medium is investigated. The microplate is reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in which the equivalent material properties nanocomposite are estimated based on the rule of mixture. For the carbon-nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) plate, both cases of uniform distribution (UD) and functionally graded (FG) distribution patterns of SWCNT reinforcements are considered. The small size effects of microplate are considered based on Eringen's nonlocal theory. Based on orthotropic Mindlin plate theory along with von K$\acute{a}$rm$\acute{a}$n geometric nonlinearity and Hamilton's principle, the governing equations are derived. Generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is applied for obtaining the buckling load of system. The effects of different parameters such as nonlocal parameters, volume fractions of SWCNTs, distribution type of SWCNTs in polymer, elastomeric medium, aspect ratio, boundary condition, orientation of foundation orthtotropy direction and temperature are considered on the nonlinear buckling of the microplate. Results indicate that CNT distribution close to top and bottom are more efficient than those distributed nearby the mid-plane for increasing the buckling load.

A green biosynthesis method is described for the preparation of Polyaniline (PANI)-cerium dioxide ($CeO_2$) nanocomposites in different media via in-situ oxidative polymerization procedure. The effect of various media including use of HCl, Lemon Juice, Beverage, White Vinegar, Verjuice and Apple vinegar extracts on the particles size, morphology as well as the conductivity of $PANI-CeO_2$ nanocomposites was investigated. The electron-withdrawing feature of $CeO_2$ increases doping level of PANI and enhances electron delocalization. These cause a significantly blue shift of C = C stretching band of quinoid from $1570cm^{-1}$ to $1585cm^{-1}$. The optical properties of the pure material and polymeric nanocomposites as well as their interfacial interaction in nanocomposite structures analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopy. The DC electrical conductivity (${\sigma}$) of as-prepared HCl doped PANI and a $PANI-CeO_2$ nanocomposite measured by a four-probe method at room temperature was studied.

Drug delivery system(DDS) applied to various fields, such as medicine, cosmetics, agriculture and necessities of life. Among these application fields, DDS is often used as the method of drug dosage into the epidermic skin. We investigated characters of transdermal therapeutic system(TTS) and the skin permeability of that with applying DDS. Chitosan was selected as material of TTS. We investigated the permeation of chitosan ointment containing drug in rat skin using horizontal membrane cell model. Permeation properties of materials were investigated for water-soluble drug such as riboflavin in vitro. We used glycerin, PEG 600 and oleic acid as enhancers. Since dermis has more content water(hydration) than the stratum corneum, skin permeation rate at steady state was highly influenced when glycerin was used in water-soluble drug. The permeation rate of content enhancer and drug was found to be faster than that of content water-soluble drug only. These results showed that skin permeation rate of drug across the composite was manly dependent on the property of ointment base and drug. Proper selection of the polymeric materials which resemble and enhance properties of the delivering drug was found to be important in controlling the skin permeation rate.

Dispersion of the functionalized multiwalled nanotubes (MWNT) in the polyurethane (PU) matrix and DC conductivity of the MWNT/PU composites are investigated with the oxidation conditions, the kind of surfactants and their content. First, the most optimal surfactant type and its critical micelle concentration in the MWNT suspension are determined as a cationic surfactant, benzalkonium chloride (BKC) of 0.6 wt.% to the MWNT content from DEA and FESEM results. All the MWNT oxidized under several conditions are negatively charged and functionalized with carboxylic group, whereas the degree of damage is different from oxidation conditions. In addition, each MWNT/PU composite derived from several oxidation conditions shows different DC conductivity at a characteristic MWNT content. It is found that in order to enhance DC conductivity of the polymeric composites containing the oxidized MWNT the better dispersion of MWNT should be obtained by effective functionalities and surfactant adsorption with preserving the intrinsic geometry of pristine MWNT.

There has been many attempts to improve the membrane performance using pervaporation processes[l-3]. They are 1) blending polymer with the high flux and one with high selectivity, 2) an incorporation of functional groups interacting with permeants into a membrane through copolymerization or modification, 3) composite membrane or asymmetric membrane structure with a thin skin layer which acts as a selective layer. Among them, a polymeric membrane containing ion complex group receives an extensive attention recently because ionic complex is known to activate the water transport through ion-dipole interaction. It is especially advantageous in the separation of organic-water system. We applied the ideas of the activation of water transport through ion-dipole. We have reported on the in-sire complex membrane to separate water from aqueous aceiic acid and pyridme solution[4-5] based on the simple acid-base theory. Water transport was enhanced through in-situ complex between pyridine moiety in the membrane and the incoming acetic acid in the feed. In this case, catalytic transport mechanism was proposed. In the present study we used pyridine solution as a feed and the sulfonic acid group in the membrane.
