  • This paper summarizes the work on the development of a simulation program for modelling the process of machining quasi-three dimensional shape with the excimer laser beam on a constantly moving polymers. Relatively simple masks of rectangle, triangle and half circle shape are considered. The etching depth is calculated by considering the number of laser pulses irradiated on the specimen surface. It was found that similar shapes as experimental results can be obtained by choosing suitable parameters of moving velocity, moving distance and mask sizes.

  • Recently, in addition to greening of roof and artificial soil, Rootproofing to prevent damage to the waterproof layer and structures by roots is recognized as an important task. Therefore, various related products and construction methods have been developed and applied in the field. However, in the case of synthetic polymer-based sheets most commonly used in domestic construction sites, Most are produced using 100% new materials that are not suitable for green trends such as resource conservation and environmental protection. Therefore, in this study, we developed TPO sheet using recycled material, which is a technology that can secure eco-friendliness by utilizing recycled resources. As a result of the evaluation of tensile performance of the TPO sheet according to the recycled material content, The tensile strength of the specimens with the recycled content of 50 ~ 70% was the highest, The elongation rate of the specimen with the recycled content of 30 ~ 40% was the best.

  • This paper experimentally investigates the seismic performance of RC columns retrofitted with Super Reinforcement with Flexibility (SRF), which is a polyester fiber reinforced polymer. A total of three specimens with a scale factor of 1/2 were constructed and tested in order to assess the structural behavior of the retrofitted RC columns. One specimen was a non-seismically designed column without any retrofit, while others were retrofitted with either one or two layers of the polyester belt with urethane as the adhesive. Static cyclic testing with a constant axial load was conducted to assess the seismic performance of the retrofitted RC columns. It is concluded that the SRF retrofitting method increases the strength and ductility of the RC columns and can also impact on the failure mode of the columns.

  • In this study, in order to improve the problem that dielectric breakdown strength decrease remarkably at high temperature, simultaneous interpenetrating polymer networks method was Introduced so that epoxy insulating material could have stable temperature characteristics and stable dielectric breakdown characteristics at whole temperature range. So network structure of epoxy/$SiO_2$ composite material was changed by adding MA and MA/PU into epoxy resin. DC voltage is applied into the specimen fabricated by this method, and then the result was compared and investigated.

  • The bond characteristics of GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) rods with various surface deformation produced by RTM(resin transfer molding) process were analyzes experimentally. Two types of GFRP rods with different surface deformation manufactured by RTM process in domestic area and two types of GFRP rebars imported were considered in this study. All testing procedures including specimens preparation, set-up of test equipments and measuring devices were made according to the CSA S806-02 recommendations. From the test results, it was found that deformed-type GFRP rod manufactured by RTM process showed the highest bond strength among test specimen. But, wave-type GFRP rod made by RTM process show the lowest value due to the splitting failure of concrete caused by the wedge action of waved surfaces on GFRP rods.

  • The friction/wear testing has been carried out for investigating the tribological characteristics between a conventional screw and tribotreated one. The tribotreated screw is manufactured by blasting a fine polymer power to the heat-treated surface of the conventional screw. The injection molding pressure that is developed between the screw and the cylinder has been applied to the rubbing surface on the specimen in a pin-on-disk wear tester. The measured results show that the friction coefficient and wear rate of a tribotreated screw are relatively low compared with the conventional one. This means that the tribotreated screw may be recommended for using an injection mold machine.

  • This paper presents the structural behavior of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) strengthened CFT (concrete-filled steel tubes) columns under axial loads. Circular and square specimens were selected to investigate the retrofitting effects of CFRP sheet on CFT columns. Test parameters are cross section of CFT, D/t (B/t) ratios, and the number of CFRP layers. The load and ductility capacities were evaluated for each specimen. Structural behavior comparisons of circular and rectangular section will be represented in the experimental result discussion section. Finally, ultimate load formula of CFRP strengthened CFT will be proposed to calculate the ultimate strength of CFRP strengthened circular CFT. The prediction values are in good agreement with the test results obtained in this study and in the literature.

  • Structural deterioration arises due to aging, environmental effects, deficiencies during design and construction phase, and overloading. Experimental and numerical investigations are carried out in this study to evaluate the performance of control and flexural deficient reinforced concrete (RC) beams under monotonic loading. Three levels of flexural deficiency are considered in this study. After confirming load carrying capacities of control and flexural deficient beams, the flexural deficient RC beams are strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) fabric. CFRP strengthened RC beams are tested under monotonic loading and compared with the performance of control specimen. Further, non-linear finite element analyses are also carried out to evaluate the flexural performance of control, deficient and CFRP strengthened flexural deficient RC beams. There is good correlation between results of experimental and numerical investigations. Numerical approach presented in this study can be adopted for assessing the adequacy of CFRP retrofit measure.

  • Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) is an essential tool for observing surface details of specimens in a high vacuum. A series of specimen procedures precludes the observations of living organisms, resulting in artifacts. To overcome these problems, Takahiko Hariyama and his colleagues proposed the concept of the "nanosuit" later referred to as "NanoSuit", describing a thin polymer layer placed on organisms to protect them in a high vacuum in 2013. The NanoSuit is formed rapidly by (i) electron beam irradiation, (ii) plasma irradiation, (iii) Tween 20 solution immersion, and (iv) surface shield enhancer (SSE) solution immersion. Without chemical fixation and metal coating, the NanoSuit-formed specimens allowed structural preservation and accurate element detection of insulating, wet specimens at high spatial resolution. NanoSuit-formed larvae were able to resume normal growth following FESEM observation. The method has been employed to observe unfixed and uncoated bacteria, multicellular organisms, and paraffin sections. These results suggest that the NanoSuit can be applied to prolong life in vacuo and overcome the limit of dead imaging of electron microscopy.

  • The mixtures of ultra-high molecular weight polythylene (UHMWPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), process oil (mineral oil) and potassium hexatitanate whisker were melted and mixed at $150^{\circ}C$ for 30min, and prepared by compression molding to the specimen of separator of about $200{\mu}m$ thickness at the same temperature and 5000 psi. Thereafter the pores were formed by extracting process oil with organic solvents. In this study, the range of PR (the ratio polymer to process oil) was varied from 0.1 to 0.5 because the specimen turned into rubbery phase at which PR was below 0.1 whereas it changed into gel phase at which PR was above 0.5. When the specimen was treated with nonpolar organic solvents, process oil was extracted nearly 98%. Tensile strength was $31kg/cm^2$ at PR = 0.426, and resistance of specimen was $37m{\Omega}/cm^2$ at PR = 0.186, and $53m{\Omega}/cm^2$ at PR = 0.426. The $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherm showed a hysteresis representing regions of capillary condensation, and the surface area at PR = 0.186 was relatively large as $130cm^2/g$. Potassium hexatitanate whisker was randomly dispersed in between PE layers. It might be that the whisker is intercalated through the PE thin layers oriented by compression.
