This study presents a new beam-column model comprising material nonlinearity and joint flexibility to predict the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. The nonlinear behavior of connections has an outstanding role on the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. In presented research, the joint flexibility is considered applying a rotational spring at each end of the member. To derive the moment-rotation behavior of beam-column connections, the relative rotations produced by the relative slip of flexural reinforcement in the joint and the flexural cracking of the beam end are taken into consideration. Furthermore, the considered spread plasticity model, unlike the previous models that have been developed based on the linear moment distribution subjected to lateral loads includes both lateral and gravity load effects, simultaneously. To confirm the accuracy of the proposed methodology, a simply-supported test beam and three reinforced concrete frames are considered. Pushover and nonlinear dynamic analysis of three numerical examples are performed. In these examples the nonlinear behavior of connections and the material nonlinearity using the proposed methodology and also linear flexibility model with different number of elements for each member and fiber based distributed plasticity model with different number of integration points are simulated. Comparing the results of the proposed methodology with those of the aforementioned models describes that suggested model that only uses one element for each member can appropriately estimate the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures.
This paper presents a numerical study on structural behavior of hammer head pier cap beams, extended on verges and reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates. A 3-D finite element (FE) model along with a simplified analytical model are presented. Concrete damage plasticity (CDP) was adapted in the FE model and an analytical approach predicting the CFRP anchor strength was adapted in both FE and analytical model. Total five quarter-scaled pier cap beams with various CFRP reinforcing schemes were experimentally tested and analyzed with numerical approaches. Comparison between experimental results, FE results, analytical results and current ACI guideline predictions was presented. The FE results showed good agreement with experimental results in terms of failure mode, ultimate capacity, load-displacement response and strain distribution. In addition, the proposed strut-and-tie based analytical model provides the most accurate prediction of ultimate strength of extended cap beams among the three numerical approaches.

Concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer tubes are often used for marine structures with the benefit of good durability and high resistance against corrosion under severe chemical environment. Current research presents results of a comprehensive experimental investigation on the behavior of axially loaded circular concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer tubes. This paper is intended to examine several aspects related to the usage of glass fiber fabrics and filament wound layers used for outer shell of piles subjected to axial compression. The objectives of the study are as follows: (1) to evaluate the effectiveness of filament winding angle of glass fiber layers (2) to evaluate the effect of number of GFRP layers on the ultimate load and ductility of confined concrete (3) to evaluate the effect of loading condition of specimens on the effectiveness of confinement and failure characteristics as well, and (4) to propose a analytical model which describes the stress-strain behavior of the confined concrete. Three different types of glass fiber layers were chosen; fabric layer, ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ filament winding layer, and ${\pm}85^{\circ}$ filament winding layer. They were put together or used independently in the fabrication of tubes. Specimens that have various L:D ratios and different diameters have also been tested. Totally 27 GFRP tube specimens to investigate the tension capacity, and 66 concrete-filled GFRP tube specimens for compression test were prepared and tested. The behavior of the specimens in the axial and transverse directions, failure types were investigated. Analytical model and parameters were suggested to describe the stress-strain behavior of concrete under confinement.

The behavior of stocky concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) tubes was studied experimentally and analytically The behavior is focused on the confining action of GRFP tube against concrete. In the experimental work, extensive tensile tests for GFRP tubes which have various fiber lay-out were conducted. And, also short length concrete filled GFRP tubes which have various tube thickness, diameter, and length were tested. In the analytical work, equations to describe the compressive stresses and strains at failure, as well as the entire stress-strain curve of the GFRP tubes were developed. A comparison between the experimental results and those of analytical results indicate that the proposed model provides satisfactory predictions for the compressive strengths, strains at failure, and stress-strain responses.
In this paper aeroelastic behavior of 3-phase nano-composite beam-plate with double delaminations is investigated. It is tried to study the effect of carbon nano-tubes (CNTs) on critical flutter pressure of reinforced damaged nano-composite structures. In this case, the CNTs are appending to the polymer matrix uniformly. The Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka model is used to obtain the effective material properties of 3-phase nano-composite beam-plate. To investigate the aeroelastic behavior of delaminated beam-plate subjected to supersonic flow, it is assumed that the damaged segments are forced to vibrate together. The boundary conditions and auxiliary conditions at edges of delaminated segments are used to predict critical flutter pressure. The influence of CNTs and different delamination parameters such as delamination length, axial position and its position through thickness are investigated on critical flutter pressure.
In this work, thermoelastic dynamic behavior of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) cylinders subjected to mechanical pressure loads, uniform temperature environment or thermal gradient loads is investigated by a mesh-free method. The material properties and thermal stress wave propagation of the nanocomposite cylinders are derived after solving of the transient thermal equation and obtaining of the time history of temperature field of the cylinders. The nanocomposite cylinders are made of a polymer matrix and wavy single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are assumed variable along the radial direction of the axisymmetric cylinder. Also, material properties of the polymer and CNT are assumed temperature-dependent and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite are estimated by a micro mechanical model in volume fraction form. In the mesh-free analysis, moving least squares shape functions are used to approximate temperature and displacement fields in the weak form of motion equation and transient thermal equation, respectively. Also, transformation method is used to impose their essential boundary conditions. Effects of waviness, volume fraction and distribution pattern of CNT, temperature of environment and direction of thermal gradient loads are investigated on the thermoelastic dynamic behavior of FG-CNTRC cylinders.

The polymer blends containing polypyrrole (PPy) and the sulphonic acids such as β-naphthalene sulfonic acid (NSA), camphor sulfonic acid (CSA), and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) were synthesized by in situ deposition technique in an aqueous media using ammonium per sulfate (APS) as an initiator. The obtained films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the thermal behavior of these polymer blends was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The temperature-dependent (DC) conductivity of the obtained films shows a semiconducting behavior with a negative temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). The conductivity data were also analyzed through Mott’s equation, which provides the variable range hopping model in three dimensions. The parameters such as density of states at the Fermi energy, hopping energy, and hopping distance were calculated for PPy, PPy-NSA, PPy-CSA, and PPy-DBSA films, and the data were compared.
Thermal cross-linking method of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) using poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was carried out on PVA/PAA hydrogels. The level of gelation was measured in the PVA/PAA hydrogels with various PAA contents. The swelling behavior at various pHs showed that the swelling kinetics and water contents of the PVA/PAA hydrogels reached equilibrium after 30 h, and the time to reach the equilibrium state decreased with increasing PAA content in the hydrogel. The water content increased with increasing pH of the buffer solution. The permeation and release of the drug were tested using indomethacin as a model drug. The permeated and released amounts of the drug increased with decreasing the PAA content because of the low free volume in the hydrogel due to the higher cross-linking density. The kinetic profile of drug release at various pHs showed that all samples reached the equilibrium state within the 5 h.
In order to directly apply seawater and sea sand in construction without desalination, a type of square concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) encased with prefabricated seawater sea-sand concrete filled Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)/Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) tube column was proposed. Twenty short columns were tested under uniaxial loads, and the test parameters included inner tube types, seawater sea-sand concrete replacement ratios, concrete strength, the wrapping area of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strips and the thickness of GFRP tube. The effects of the parameters on failure modes, loading capacity, ductility and strain responses were discussed. All the tested specimens failed with serious buckling of the steel tubes and fracture of the inner tubes. The specimens had good residual bearing capacity corresponding to 64% to 88.9% of the peak capacity. The inner GFRP tubes and PVC tubes wrapped by CFRP strips provided stronger confinement to the core concrete, and were good choices for the proposed columns. Moreover, an analytical model for the composite column with different inner tube types was proposed.

The present study is focused on instigation of the nonlinear mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete beams considering different types of FRP bars through nonlinear finite element simulations. To explore the impact of the FRP reinforcement type and geometry on the nonlinear mechanical behavior of reinforced beam, intensive parametric studies are carried out and discussed. Twenty models were carried out based on the finite element software (ABAQUS). The concrete damage plasticity model was considered. Four types of fiber polymer bars, CFRP, GFRP, AFRP and BFRP as longitudinal reinforcement for concrete beam were used. The validation of numerical results was confirmed by experimental as well as numerical results, then the parametric study was conducted to evaluate the effect of change in different parameters, such as bar diameter size, type of FRP bars and shear span length. All results were analyzed and discussed through, load-deflection diagram. The results showed that the use of FRP bars in rebar concrete beam improves the beam stiffness and enhance the ultimate load capacity. The load capacity enhanced in the range of (20.44-244.47%) when using different types of FRP bars. The load-carrying capacity of beams reinforced with CFRP is the highest one, beams reinforced with AFRP is higher than that reinforced with BFRP but beams reinforced with GFRP recorded the lowest load of capacity compered with other beams reinforced with FRP Bars.
