Extensible 3D(X3D) is a software standard for defining interactive web and broadcast-based 3D content integrated with multimedia. The data size of Web3D representation based on polygon meshes is so large that transferring practical data fast is a hard problem. This paper proposes 3D object structure, a new framework for compact 3D representation with high quality surface shape. By utilizing a free form surface technique, qualified surface are transferred with limited amount of data size and rendered. 3D graphic structure can be regarded ad both polygon meshes and free form surfaces. Therefore, it can be easily integrated to existing Web3D data formats, for example VRML & XML. 3D object structure also enables modeling free form surface shapes intuitively with polygon modeling like operations.

In the modeling processes of 3D computer animation, methods to build optimal work conditions to realize real forms for more efficient works have been advanced. Digital sculpting software, published in 1999, ZBrush has been positioned as an essential factor in character model work requiring of realistic descriptions through different manufacturing methods from previous modeling work processes and easy shape realization. Their functional areas are expanding. So, in this production case paper, as a method to product more optimized animation character models, the efficiency of production method linking digital sculpting software (Z-Brush) and animation production software (Maya) was deliberated and its consequences and implications are suggested. To this end, first the technical features of polygon modeling and Retopology were reviewed. Second, based on it, the efficiency of animation character modeling work processes through step linking ZBrush and Maya suggested in this paper was analyzed. Third, based on the features drawn before, in order to prove the hypothesis on modeling optimization method suggested in this paper, the production process of character Dumvee from a short animation film, 'Cula & Mina' was analyzed as an example. Through this study, it was found that technical approach easiness and high level of completion could be realized through two software linked work processes. This study is considered to be a reference for optimizing production process of related industries or modeling-related classes by deliberating different modeling process linked systems.
This study examined the applicability of digital technologies based on three-dimensional(3D) scanning, modeling, and printing to the restoration of damaged artifacts. First, 3D close-range scanning was utilized to make a high-resolution polygon mesh model of a roof-end tile with a missing part, and a 3D virtual restoration of the missing part was conducted using a haptic interface. Furthermore, the virtual restoration model was printed out with a 3D printer using the material extrusion method and a PLA filament. Then, the additive structure of the printed output with a scanning electron microscope was observed and its shape accuracy was analyzed through 3D deviation analysis. It was discovered that the 3D printing output of the missing part has high dimensional accuracy and layer thickness, thus fitting extremely well with the fracture surface of the original roof-end tile. The convergence of digital virtual restoration based on 3D scanning and 3D printing technology has helped in minimizing contact with the artifact and broadening the choice of restoration materials significantly. In the future, if the efficiency of the virtual restoration modeling process is improved and the material stability of the printed output for the purpose of restoration is sufficiently verified, the usability of 3D digital technologies in cultural heritage restoration will increase.

An approach has been developed to generate parametric models with Boolean operations. The approach combines Boolean operations and graph manipulation on the constraints imposed on primitives. A Boolean operation is first performed on two primitives and new geometric elements such as vertices and edges are computed. Then to generate the constraint graph of the polygon the each constraints graph of two primitives are merged by adding the new geometric elements with its corresponding constraints. In the merging process, some of the geometric elements belonging to the primitives may be eliminated based on its contribution to the polygon. A computer implementation in a 2D space is described to illustrate the approach with examples.
This paper presents a method for point-based 3D building reconstruction using LiDAR data and digital map. The proposed method consists of three processes: extraction of building roof points, identification of roof types, and 3D building reconstruction. After extracting points inside the polygon of building, the ground surface, wall and tree points among the extracted points are removed through the filtering process. The filtered points are then fitted into the flat plane using ODR(Orthogonal Distance Regression). If the fitting error is within the predefined threshold, the surface is classified as a flat roof. Otherwise, the surface is fitted and classified into a gable or arch roof through RMSE analysis. Based on the roof types identified in automated fashion, the 3D building reconstruction is performed. Experimental results showed that the proposed method classified successfully three different types of roof and that the fusion of LiDAR data and digital map could be a feasible method of modelling 3D building reconstruction.

In this paper, we propose a new method for the design and implementation of Cloth Simulation System for 3D fashion shopping mall based on Web. Web 3D shopping mall is implemented by using a Web3D authoring tool, ISB, which provides easy mouse operation. 3D human models and cloth item model are designed by low polygon modeling method of 3D MAX. The designed 3D human models and cloth item model are exported to XML file. Finally, 3D human models and cloth item model are displayed and animated on the Web by using ActiveX control based on DirectX. We also implemented textile palette and mapped it to clothes model by using alpha blending during simulation.

In these days, a vehicle simulator has been developed with a VR(Virtual Reality) system. A VR system must provide a vehicle simulator with natural interaction, sufficient immersion and realistic images. In addition, a VR system must present a driver with the realistic driving situation. To achieve these, it is important to obtain a fast and uniform rendering performance regardless of the complexity of virtual worlds. In this paper, the factors to improve the reality for the VR based vehicle simulator have been investigated. For the purpose, the modeling and the rendering methods which offer an improved performance for complex VR applications as the 3D road model have been implemented and verified. Then, we experiment on the influence of graphic and sound factors to the driver, and analyze each result for improving the reality such as the driver's viewport, the form of texture, the lateral distance of the side object, and the sound effect. These factors are evaluated on the driving system which is constructed for qualitative analysis. The research results could be used for improving the reality of the VR based vehicle simulator.

The most commonly used 3D modeling file formats are OBJ (Wavefront file format specification) and STL (STereoLithography). Although they have a common point of view in 3D on the screen, detailed functions are different according to purpose of development. OBJ is the most commonly used 3D file format and STL is mainly used as 3D file format for 3D printing. However, in the field of Scientific Visualization, precise analysis is required. There is a difference in accuracy depending on the type of 3D file format. OBJ and STL are not suitable for delicate surface description because they form meshes in the form of triangular polygons. And if you increase the number of triangle polygons, it will be smoother, but the file size also increases exponentially and causes excessive CPU usage. In contrast, VTK provides a variety of polygon structures, including triangular polygons as well as rectangular polygons and cube polygons. Thus, delicate surface depiction is possible. Delicate surface rendering is possible and file size is not large. This paper describes the concept and structure of VTK. We also compared the load times and file sizes between VTK, STL, and OBJ in the Chrome browser. In addition, the difference in surface rendering ability between VTK, STL, and OBJ is intuitively viewed based on the screen in which each 3D file format is implemented under the same conditions. This study is expected to be helpful for efficient 3D file format for precise implementation of Web - based Scientific Visualization.
