  • To achieve the socially optimum level of renewable generation, governments should design renewable policies to induce renewable technologies competitive with conventional generation technologies. And to do that, it is needed to understand how each policy has been effective in promoting renewables for power sector. In most of the literatures, there are two key limitations that they did not considered autocorrelation problem using the amount of generation from renewables as a dependent variable and technology innovation which needs to be preceded technology adoption. In this study, I try to overcome these two problems by using dynamic panel model and adding an additional variable for technology innovation. According to the result, FIT has been effective rather than RPS in promoting renewables for generation and I found the possibility that the counterintuitive results which commonly appeared in existing studies might be due to the two limitations mentioned above.

  • Gyeongnam province is well known for its high concentration on machinery manufacturing industry. However, this province is losing competitive advantage due to the lack of IT S/W industry. In this paper, we propose a way for adoption of u-Manufacturing technology to promote IT S/W industry in Gyeongnam. At first, we identified the needs of manufacturing companies and the capabilities of the IT S/W companies with survey. Based on the survey analysis, then we set up the u-Manufacturing concept and proposed Manufacturing IT middleware to support it. Finally, we proposed a strategy to promote smoothly the adoption of u-Manufacturing technology in this area.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how consumers perceive electric vehicles and factors that affect attitude, satisfaction, and intention to use electric vehicles and to explore policy issues regarding climate change and global environment. By classifying actual and potential users, this study developed the following research questions: i) factors including economic feasibility, sociality, environmental sustainability, inefficiency, inconvenience, convenience, and uncertainty affect attitude to electric vehicles; ii) attitude to electric vehicles affects actual consumers' satisfaction; and iii) attitude to electric vehicles affects potential users' intention to use. Research design, data and methodology: This study conducted an online survey and applied factor and regression analyses and ANOVA to test hypotheses. Results: The results of this study found that economic feasibility and convenience factors significantly affect attitude in both cases of actual and potential users. How actual users perceive efficiency of electric vehicles negatively and uncertain issues such as battery technology affect attitude to electric vehicles. Conclusions: This study provides policy implications that foster promotional policies for the adoption of electric vehicles for environment and regulate negative aspects. This study also provides managerial implications for manufacturers to develop better technology competences to enhance reliability on electric vehicles.

  • Convergence-based Smart Work in Korea started from 2010 with a purpose to improve work-life balance. Up to now the previous research on Smart Work has been studied in the context of the pre-adoption or the adoption stage, and shows some limitations not finding out the effort to manage change, the issues occurred in the process of adopting Smart Work, and the performance after adopting Smart Work. The period after adoption is when users continue to use ICT and intended objectives can be accomplished. Therefore, this study investigated the process that the organizations adopting Smart Work have overcome spatial and temporal constraints and the performance that they have achieved after adopting it. Though the framework integrating time-geography theory with technology acceptance stage, this research interviewed four managers of three organizations being responsible for adopting and operating Smart Work and provided its adopting process and performance of each organization.

  • Vendor Managed Inventory(VMI) is a distribution channel system where the inventory at the retailer is monitored and managed by the manufacturer or vendor. By pushing the decision making responsibility further up the supply chain and centralizing the replenishment decision, the vendor can help the entire supply chain be more competitive. The purpose of this research is to explore the factors influencing the adoption of VMI by Korean manufacturers. This research proposes the IT readiness, operating cost, and information sharing as antecedents of burden for VMI, and collected the survey responses from the small-to-medium manufacturers. The statistical results indicate that only the operating cost has a significant impact on the adoption of VMI. However it has also been found that the IT readiness and information sharing have a significant effect on the operating cost. Thus indirectly influence the adoption of VMI. As a conclusion, the academic and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

  • Recently, LVDC(Low Voltage Direct Current) has been came into the newly spotlight with HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) and as increasing digital load, DC power supply and high quality of demand is also getting extended. In accordance with the report of EPRI(Electric Power Research Institute), they expect digital load will grow to 50% of whole load in 2020. Subsequently, the use of DC equipment will grow dramatically. Therefore, the careful adoption of LVDC standardization policy is urgently required for the safety of people, prevention of confusion and occupancy of the market.

  • In this paper, we report the public IT policy case results to restructure informatization level indices for small and medium sized enterprise(SME). The indices restructuring project was initiated by TIPA with the group of experts during 2011, and the newly amended indices was employed as the formal instrument to measure SME informatization level. The critical drivers to reform the indices include simplification for more accurate measurement of SME informatization level, reshaping key representative indices of smart IT to better publicize SME's interest toward advanced IT, and systematic reconfiguration of performance measures which reflect business performance enhancement effect through IT investment. Indeed, the IT performance indices are unified to incorporate the instrument for general SME informatization level survey and IT adoption subsidy's effectiveness appraisal. The procedures and details of logic illustrated in this paper provides useful insight for successful implementation of SME informatization as well as for the better policy deployment of IT subsidization for SMEs.

  • Nuclear energy sources are indispensable in cost effectively achieving carbon neutral economy, where public opinion is critical to adoption as the consequences of nuclear accident can be catastrophic. In this context, discussion on spent nuclear fuel is a prerequisite to expanding nuclear energy, as it leads to the issue of radioactive waste disposal. Given the dearth of study on spent nuclear fuel public acceptance, we use text mining and big data analysis on the news article and public comments data on Naver news portal to identify the Korean public opinion on spent nuclear fuel. We identify that the Korean public is more interested in the nuclear energy policy than spent nuclear fuel itself and that the alternative energy sources affect the position towards spent nuclear fuel. We recommend relating spent nuclear fuel issue with nuclear energy policy and environmental issues of alternative energy sources to further promote spent nuclear fuel.
