STEM 전공 대학생의 진로동기, 진로탐색행동에 대한 인식 차이와 영향요인 (Differences in Career Motivation and Career Exploration Behavior Among STEM Students and Their Affecting Factors)

  • In recent times, STEM graduates are confronting a decline in employment rates influenced by economic, social, cultural, and policy-related factors. Career decisions are closely linked to education, college experiences, and university settings. To comprehend the reasons behind the decline in STEM employment, it is essential to explore the relationships among these factors. This study aims to comprehensively examine differences in career motivation and career exploration behavior among 2,393 STEM undergraduates in Korea. Additionally, factors affecting career motivation and career exploration behavior were investigated. The findings indicate significant differences in perceived career motivation and career exploration behavior based on individual backgrounds and university characteristics. And analyzing the data, 37.8% of career motivation is explained by contextual supports, career barriers, individual backgrounds (grade, GPA), university characteristics (major fields, location), field to enter after graduation, and timing of job preparation. For career exploration behavior, 30.1% is explained by contextual supports, career barriers, individual backgrounds (gender, grade, GPA), university characteristics (major field, location), field to enter after graduation, and timing of job preparation. Practical implications underscore the need for tailored educational and policy support, considering individual backgrounds and university characteristics, to effectively address challenges faced by STEM graduates in the evolving employment landscape.

Solving Survival Gridworld Problem Using Hybrid Policy Modified Q-Based Reinforcement

  • This paper explores a model-free value-based approach for solving survival gridworld problem. Survival gridworld problem opens up a challenge involving taking risks to gain better rewards. Classic value-based approach in model-free reinforcement learning assumes minimal risk decisions. The proposed method involves a hybrid on-policy and off-policy updates to experience roll-outs using a modified Q-based update equation that introduces a parametric linear rectifier and motivational discount. The significance of this approach is it allows model-free training of agents that take into account risk factors and motivated exploration to gain better path decisions. Experimentations suggest that the proposed method achieved better exploration and path selection resulting to higher episode scores than classic off-policy and on-policy Q-based updates.

해저 열수광상 및 망간각 자원 개발을 위한 국제적 논의에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Considerations Relating to the Regulations for Prospecting and Exploration for Hydrothermal Polymetallic Sulphides and Cobalt-rich Ferromanganese Crusts in the Area)

  • In August 1998, during the resumed fourth session of the Authority, the delegation of the Russian Federation reminded the Assembly that, in addition to polymetallic nodules, other mineral resources existed in the Area, including polymetallic sulphides and cobalt crusts, and requested the Authority to adopt rules, regulations and procedures for exploration for such resources. Pursuant to article 162, para. 2(o)(ii), of the 1982 UNCLOS, such rules, regulations and procedures are to be adopted within three years of the date of such a request. This article reviewed the 'Draft Rules and Regulations for the Exploration and Exploitation of Sea-Floor Massive Sulphides and Cobat-rich Ferromanganese Crusts in the Area' by ISA in 2001, and the 'Madang Guideline for Offshore Mineral Policy' written in 1999 in respect of the international trends of polymetallic sulphides and cobalt crusts. Issues for size of mining area and relinquishment, application of the site-banking system, procedure for dealing with overlapping claims and precautionary approach etc. for the establishment of the norm of polymetallic sulphides and cobalt crusts are reviewed as consideration factors.

과학기술외교 관점에서 바라본 유럽의 우주탐사와 우리나라 우주탐사전략 (Europe's Space Exploration and Korea's Space Exploration Strategy from the Perspective of Science and Technology Diplomacy)

  • 우주탐사는 지구관측, 통신, 항법 등 어떠한 우주활동보다 국제공조가 활발히 일어나는 분야이다. 이는 지구 근처에서의 우주활동보다 심우주 탐사를 위해 갖추어야 하는 발사체, 관제, 통신, 유인 우주거주시설 등의 인프라를 한 나라가 온전히 갖추기 위해서는 막대한 예산을 필요로 하며, 지속가능하지 않기 때문이다. 우리나라는 2021년 아르테미스 약정에 서명하고, 2022년 다누리 달 궤도선을 발사함으로써 인류의 심우주 탐사 대장정에 본격적으로 동참하려는 의지를 표명하였다. 심우주 탐사의 시작은 우리나라의 우주활동이 이제 기술개발에만 매진하는 단계를 지나 다른 나라와 동행하기 위해 필요한 규범을 정하고 노출되는 문제해결을 위해 외교적으로 공조해야 하는 단계로 확장되었음을 의미한다. 본 논문은 가장 활발히 아르테미스 프로그램에 참여하고 있으며, 우주 분야에서 외교력을 십분 발휘하고 있는 유럽의 우주정책과 우주탐사를 과학기술외교 관점에서 분석하였다. 유럽의 우주정책, 우주탐사전략, 우주탐사 프로그램으로 연계되는 상위 정책과 하위 프로젝트 단위에 이르는 우주활동에서 국제협력 전략의 전개를 살펴봄으로써 과학기술외교 관점에서 우리나라 우주탐사전략에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

해저열수광상 상업개발을 위한 국제동향분석과 국가대응전략 (Strategies for the Commercial Development of Seafloor Hydrothermal Deposits in Consideration of International Progress)

  • Hydrothermal deposits on deep-sea floors are expected to provide potential metal resources for future demands. Korea was recently granted a prospecting licence to undertake exploration for hydrothermal metal deposits in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Kingdom of Tonga in the Pacific Ocean. The Korean Deep Seabed Mining Group (KDSMG), which consists of four Korean companies involved in marine technologies, oil and gas shipping, and smelter industries, has conducted research to evaluate the region's resource potential in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) of Korea. Here we present and reflect on the exploration results of these companies and their strategic plans. We also evaluate Research and Development (R&D) progress for the commercial development of seafloor hydrothermal deposits. Our own strategies and prospects for the commercial development of this potential resource are also outlined. We do acknowledge that other potentially important information regarding the amount of ore body, the inside structure, and the metal yields have not yet been clarified sufficiently. As such it is necessary to address these problems through experimental R&D and surveys.

연속시간 선형시스템에 대한 탐색화된 정책반복법 (Explorized Policy Iteration For Continuous-Time Linear Systems)

  • This paper addresses the problem that policy iteration (PI) for continuous-time (CT) systems requires explorations of the state space which is known as persistency of excitation in adaptive control community, and as a result, proposes a PI scheme explorized by an additional probing signal to solve the addressed problem. The proposed PI method efficiently finds in online fashion the related CT linear quadratic (LQ) optimal control without knowing the system matrix A, and guarantees the stability and convergence to the LQ optimal control, which is proven in this paper in the presence of the probing signal. A design method for the probing signal is also presented to balance the exploration of the state space and the control performance. Finally, several simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed explorized PI method.

해저열수광상 개발동향과 우리나라의 대응방안 (Strategies for Development of Seafloor Polymetallic Sulphides in Consideration of International Progress)

  • 해저열수광상은 황화물 미네랄이 해저의 열수작용을 통해 형성된 광상을 의미하며 특히, 구리, 납, 아연, 금, 은 등의 금속이 다량 포함되어 있다. 현재 해저열수광상 개발분야의 선두주자는 노틸러스사이다. 노틸러스사는 파푸아뉴기니, 피지, 통가, 솔로몬제도, 뉴질랜드 등 남서태평양 도서국에 약 37만 $km^2$에 달하는 탐사권을 보유 또는 신청해 놓은 상태이다. 넵튠사 역시 뉴질랜드, 파푸아뉴기니, 마이크로네시아에서 27만 $km^2$가 넘는 면적의 탐사권을 취득하였다. 이들 두 광업회사는 2010년 세계 최초로 해저열수광상의 상업생산을 목표로 적극적인 활동을 전개하고 있다. 주변국가인 중국과 일본은 전략광물의 안정적 공급을 위하여 해저열수광상 탐사활동을 적극적으로 수행하고 있는 실정이다. 중국의 경우 중국대양협회를 통해 전 지구 대양을 대상으로 심해저자원개발을 위한 국가연구개발사업을 수행하고 있다. 일본의 경우 자국의 EEZ를 중심으로 해저열수광상 조사사업을 수행하고 있다. 이러한 국제적인 해저열수광상 개발동향을 고려하여 우리나라의 해저열수광상 개발을 위한 전략방향을 소관부처의 일원화와 법제도 정비, 사업추진주체 결정, 정부의 적극적 예산지원, 해저열수광상 개발을 위한 중장기 계획수립 등의 측면에서 제안하였다.
