The aim of this study was to determine firstly the characteristics of esthetic lips in Korean females and secondly to measure the changes of the lips before and after anterior segmental osteotomy in bimaxillary protruded patients. Methods: Samples consisted of 30 models and 26 nonmodels, and 10 patients who had received anterior segmental osteotomy. Twelve linear measurements, 5 angular measurements, and the lip perimeter and area were measured. These results were compared for each group using unpaired and paired t-tests. Results: Full face width, nose to chin, upper vermilion height and angle, lateral heights at the point of the tips of Cupid's bow, central bow angle, and the lower lip to chin lengths were significantly greater in nonmodels than in models. However, overall lip width, lower vermilion height and angle, tip-to-tip of Cupid's bow lip perimeter, and lower vermilion area were greater in models than in nonmodels. Comparison of before and after anterior segmental osteotomy revealed that the values for the upper vermilion and lateral heights, the angle to Cupid's bow tip lengths, and upper vermilion area of post-operative patients had become similar to those of Korean female models. Our findings demonstrated that Korean female models have a fuller lower vermilion & thinner upper vermilion compared with nonmodel controls, as determined by the vermilion heights, angles, and areas. Conclusions: It will be helpful for clinicians to use these measurements as guidelines for improving patients' facial esthetics.

The information indicating device plays an important part in the information times. Recently, the classical CRT (Cathod Ray Tube) display is getting transferred to the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) one which is a kind of the FPDs (Flat Panel Displays). The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) display of the FPDs has many advantages for the low power consumption, the luminescence in itself, the light weight, the thin thickness, the wide view angle, the fast response and so on as compared with the LCD one. The OLED has lately attracted considerable attention as the next generation device for the information indicators. And also it has already been applied for the outside panel of a mobile phone, and its demand will be gradually increased in the various fields. It is manufactured by the vapor deposition method in the vacuum state, and the uniformity of thin film on the substrate depends on the temperature distribution in the point-cell source. This paper describes the basic concepts that are obtained to design the point-cell source using the computational temperature analysis. The grids are generated using the module of AUTOHEXA in the ICEM CFD program and the temperature distributions are numerically obtained using the STAR-CD program. The temperature profiles are calculated for four cases, i.e., the charge rate for the source in the crucible, the ratio of diameter to height of the crucible, the ratio of interval to height of the heating bands, and the geometry modification for the basic crucible. As a result, the blowout phenomenon can be shown when the charge rate for the source increases. The temperature variation in the radial direction is decreased as the ratio of diameter to height is decreased and it is suggested that the thin film thickness can be uniformed. In case of using one heating band, the blowout can be shown as the higher temperature distribution in the center part of the source, and the clogging can appear in the top end of the crucible in the lower temperature. The phenomena of both the blowout and the clogging in the modified crucible with the nozzle-diffuser can be prevented because the temperature in the upper part of the crucible is higher than that of other parts and the temperature variation in the radial direction becomes small.

In the preceding tests using the KSR-III Sub.(I) engines, it was observed that the heat resistant capability of the engines was not enough for the mission. So Sub.(I) Mod. engines were designed and tested. The Sub.(I) Mod. engines have three major design parameters - the arrangement of main injectors, the impinging angle of main injectors and thermal barrier coating. More than twenty experiments were carried on to evaluate engine performance and heat resistance capability with respect to design parameters. In this study, the test results are introduced. Analysing the result of Sub.(I) engine tests, it is found that decreasing the impinging angle, adopting the H-type arrangement(rather than radial type arrangement) and adopting the thermal barrier coating can increase heat resistance capacity substantially. Also, engine performance evaluation is conducted using specific impulse and characteristic velocity parameter. The results show that the performance variation is small(about 5%) and the performance is better in the case of radial arrangement. It is suspected that these phenomena are caused by the change of flame structure atomization mixing characteristic of sprays and the distortion of recirculation zone. Also from the low frequency instability point of view, it is observed that reducing the impinging angle and adopting the H type arrangement can increase the instability characteristics.
The purpose of this study was compare to the patient setup deviation of two different type thermoplastic immobilization masks for glottis cancer in the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). A total of 16 glottis cancer cases were divided into two groups based on applied mask type: standard or alternative group. The mean error (M), three-dimensional setup displacement error (3D-error), systematic error (${\Sigma}$), random error (${\sigma}$) were calculated for each group, and also analyzed setup margin (mm). The 3D-errors were $5.2{\pm}1.3mm$ and $5.9{\pm}0.7mm$ for the standard and alternative groups, respectively; the alternative group was 13.6% higher than the standard group. The systematic errors in the roll angle and the x, y, z directions were $0.8^{\circ}$, 1.7 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm in the alternative group and $0.8^{\circ}$, 1.1 mm, 1.8 mm, and 2.0 mm in the alternative group. The random errors in the x, y, z directions were 10.9%, 1.7%, and 23.1% lower in the alternative group than in the standard group. However, absolute rotational angle (i.e., roll) in the alternative group was 12.4% higher than in the standard group. For calculated setup margin, the alternative group in x direction was 31.8% lower than in standard group. In contrast, the y and z direction were 52.6% and 21.6% higher than in the standard group. Although using a modified thermoplastic immobilization mask could be affect patient setup deviation in terms of numerical results, various point of view for an immobilization masks has need to research in terms of clinic issue.
The analysis of wide-angle seismic reflection and refraction data plays an important role in lithospheric-scale crustal structure study. However, it is extremely difficult to develop an appropriate velocity structure model directly from the observed data, and we have to improve the structure model step by step, because the crustal structure analysis is an intrinsically non-linear problem. There are several subjective processes in wide-angle crustal structure modelling, such as phase identification and trial-and-error forward modelling. Because these subjective processes in wide-angle data analysis reduce the uniqueness and credibility of the resultant models, it is important to reduce subjectivity in the analysis procedure. From this point of view, we describe two software tools, PASTEUP and MODELING, to be used for developing crustal structure models. PASTEUP is an interactive application that facilitates the plotting of record sections, analysis of wide-angle seismic data, and picking of phases. PASTEUP is equipped with various filters and analysis functions to enhance signal-to-noise ratio and to help phase identification. MODELING is an interactive application for editing velocity models, and ray-tracing. Synthetic traveltimes computed by the MODELING application can be directly compared with the observed waveforms in the PASTEUP application. This reduces subjectivity in crustal structure modelling because traveltime picking, which is one of the most subjective process in the crustal structure analysis, is not required. MODELING can convert an editable layered structure model into two-way traveltimes which can be compared with time-sections of Multi Channel Seismic (MCS) reflection data. Direct comparison between the structure model of wide-angle data with the reflection data will give the model more credibility. In addition, both PASTEUP and MODELING are efficient tools for handling a large dataset. These software tools help us develop more plausible lithospheric-scale structure models using wide-angle seismic data.
Due to higher strength-to-weight ratio of composite laminates, they find uses in many weight-sensitive applications like aerospace, automobile and marine structures. From a reliability point of view, accurate prediction of failure of these structures is important. Due to the complexities in the manufacturing processes of composite laminates, there is a variation in the material properties and geometric parameters. Hence stochastic aspects are important while designing the composite laminates. Many existing works of composite laminate failure analysis are based on the deterministic approach but it is important to consider the randomness in the material properties, geometry and loading to predict accurate failure loads. In this paper the statistics of the ultimate failure load of the [0/θ]s laminated composite plate (LCP) containing the edge crack and voids subjected to the tensile loading are presented in terms of the mean and coefficient of variance (COV). The objective is to better the efficacy of laminate failure by predicting the statistics of the ultimate failure load of LCP with random material, geometric and loading parameters. The stochastic analysis is done by using the extended finite element method (XFEM) combined with the second-order perturbation technique (SOPT). The ultimate failure load of the LCP is obtained by ply-by-ply failure analysis using the ply discount method combined with the Tsai-Wu failure criterion. The aim is to know the effect of the stacking sequence, crack length, crack angle, location of voids and number of voids on the mean and corresponding COV of the ultimate failure load of LCP is investigated. The results of the ultimate failure load obtained by the present method are in good agreement with the existing experimental and numerical results. It is observed that [0/θ]s LCPs are very sensitive to the randomness in the crack length, applied load, transverse tensile strength of the laminate and modulus of elasticity of the material, so precise control of these parameters is important. The novelty of the present study is, the stochastic implementation in XFEM for the failure prediction of LCPs containing crack and voids.
The use of short implants has been accepted risky from biomechanical point of view. However, short implants appear to be a long term viable solution according to recent clinical reports. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different diameter and length of implant size to the different type of bone on the load distribution pattern. Stress analysis was performed using 3-dimensional finite element analysis(3D-FEA). A three-dimensional linear elastic model was generated. All implants modeled were of the various diameter(${\phi}4.0$, 4.5, 5.0 and 6.0 mm) and varied in length, at 7.0, 8.5 and 10.0 mm. Each implant was modeled with a titanium abutment screw and abutment. The implants were seated in a supporting D2 and D4 bone structure consisting of cortical and cancellous bone. An amount of 100 N occlusal load of vertical and $30^{\circ}$ angle to axis of implant and to buccolingual plane were applied. As a result, the maximum equivalent stress of D2 and D4 bones has been concentrated upper region of cortical bone. As the width of implant is increased, the equivalent stress is decreased in cancellous bone and stress was more homogeneously distributed along the implants in all types of bone. The short implant of diameter 5.0mm, 6.0mm showed effective stress distribution in D2 and D4 bone. The oblique force of 100N generated more concentrated stress on the D2 cortical bone. Within the limitations of this study, the use of short implant may offer a predictable treatment method in the vertically restricted sites.
Purpose: There are various methods proposed for the evaluation of the hindfoot alignment. However, due to structural calcaneus variances between patients, it is hard to assess this alignment definitively. Thus, this study proposes a new method for evaluating of the hindfoot alignment and its comparisons to the existing current methods. Materials and Methods: This study includes simple weight bearing hindfoot coronal view radiographs of 120 patients, taken between the time period of March 2008 to November 2009. Among the 120 patients, there was a 1:1 ratio of male to female with an average age of 40. The newly proposed method for evaluating this alignment is to draw a moment arm from the point where the sustentaculum tali meets the medial calcaneus border to the most prominent aspect of the lateral process of the calcaneal tuberosity. The angle produced via the intersection of this moment arm to the mid-longitudinal axis of the tibia is found and used to evaluate the hindfoot alignment. The inter and intra-observer reliability was evaluated using the coefficient of intraclass correlation. This study also investigates the comparisons between the newly proposed method to the traditionally used Saltzman et al hindfoot alignment evaluating technique. Results: The newly proposed method has higher inter and intra-observer reliability than the existing traditional Saltzman et al technique. Conclusion: This new method is recommended over the traditionally used Saltzman et al technique as it has a stronger confidence level and is appropriate for assessing hindfoot alignment in simple radiographs.
In this rarer, we introduce a new Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNNs)-like structure whose neuron is based on the Fuzzy Set-based Fuzzy Inference System (FS-FIS) and is different from that of FPNNs based on the Fuzzy relation-based Fuzzy Inference System (FR-FIS) and discuss the ability of the new FPNNs-like structurenamed Fuzzy Set-based Polynomial Neural Networks (FSPNN). The premise parts of their fuzzy rules are not identical, while the consequent parts of the both Networks (such as FPNN and FSPNN) are identical. This difference results from the angle of a viewpoint of partition of input space of system. In other word, from a point of view of FS-FIS, the input variables are mutually independent under input space of system, while from a viewpoint of FR-FIS they are related each other. In considering the structures of FPNN-like networks such as FPNN and FSPNN, they are almost similar. Therefore they have the same shortcomings as well as the same virtues on structural side. The proposed design procedure for networks' architecture involves the selection of appropriate nodes with specific local characteristics such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial that is constant, linear, quadratic, or modified quadratic functions being viewed as the consequent part of fuzzy rules, and a collection of the specific subset of input variables. On the parameter optimization phase, we adopt Information Granulation (IG) based on HCM clustering algorithm and a standard least square method-based learning. Through the consecutive process of such structural and parametric optimization, an optimized and flexible fuzzy neural network is generated in a dynamic fashion. To evaluate the performance of the genetically optimized FSPNN (gFSPNN), the model is experimented with using gas furnace process dataset.
