  • This paper presents the two modes for maximum power point tracking of the photovoltaic system. The method combines the merits of the two methods consisting of the open circuit method and the three point weight comparison method. The maximum point found by this method is exactly than by the open circuit method. By the simulation results, the actual maximum point can be found that is better than the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method or the three point weight method only one method, especially, in the case of non regular pattern of Power-Voltage (P-V) curve.

  • The decomposition of incident and reflected wave on the two-dimensional experimental flume is very important to elucidate the phenomena between waves and coastal structure such as submerged breakwater or rubble-mound breakwater. In generally, two or three point methods are widely used to decompose waves. Even though three point method gives more accurate result, it requires more wave gauge to install than two point method. Sometimes, this causes economic or measurement problems. In this study, therefore, the applicability of two point method was investigated by using Eigenfunction expansion method.

  • We describe how to control a piezoelectric actuator using the open-loop method for point-to-point positioning. Since piezoelectric actuators have nonlinear characteristics due to hysteresis and creep between the input voltage and the resulting displacement, a special method is required to eliminate this nonlinearity for an open-loop drive. We have introduced open-loop driving methods for piezoelectric actuators in the past, which required a large input voltage and an initializing motion sequence to reset the state of the actuator before each movement. In this paper, we propose a new driving method that uses the initializing state. This method also utilizes the overshoot from both the upward and downward stepwise drives. Applying this method., we obtained precise point-to-point positioning without the influence of hysteresis and creep.

  • This paper proposes a new Interior Point Method algorithm to improve the computation speed and solution stability, which have been challenging problems for employing the nonlinear Optimal Power Flow. The proposed algorithm is different from the tradition Interior Point Methods in that it adopts the Predictor-Corrector Method. It also accommodates the five minute dispatch, which is highly recommenced in modern electricity market. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated with a case study.

  • A new reference point location method using the cosine component is proposed, where an edge map is defined and used to find the reference point. Because all processes used in the proposed method are performed at the block level, less processing time is required. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect the reference point with higher speed and accuracy for all types of fingerprints.

  • The Primal-Dual Interior-Point (PDIP) method is currently one of the fastest emerging topics in optimization. This method has become an effective solution algorithm for large scale nonlinear optimization problems. such as the electric Optimal Power Flow (OPF) and natural gas and electricity OPF. This study describes major theoretical developments of the PDIP method as well as practical issues related to implementation of the method. • This paper investigates the optimal locations of internal point supports in a symmetric crossply laminated rectangular plate for maximum fundamental frequency of vibration. The method used for solving this optimization problem involves the Rayleigh-Ritz method for the vibration analysis and the simplex method of Nelder and Mead for the iterative search of the optimum support locations. Being a continuum method, the Rayleigh-Ritz method allows easy handling of the changing point support locations during the optimization search. Rectangular plates of various boundary conditions, aspect ratios, composed of different numbers of layers, and with one, two and three internal point supports are analysed. The interesting results on the optimal locations of the point supports showed that (a) there are multiple solutions; (b) the locations are dependent on both the plate aspect ratios and the number of layers (c) the fundamental frequency may be raised significantly with appropriate positioning of the point supports.

  • In order to design effectively the grounding system, it is very important to determine the optimum soil resistivity at the desired location of the connection to earth. This paper deals with the reasonable methods of measuring the soil resistivity where grounding electrodes are buried. The soil resistivity at three test sites with different resistivity of soil were measured as functions of the spacing between the test probes in the Wenner's four-point method and the length of test ground rod in the three-point method. In the case of the three-point method, the length of test ground rod of 2-10[m] in length was appropriate in two-layered soil structure. In the length range of 2-10[m], the results measured by the three-point method using the test ground rod with the length corresponding to the spacing between the test probes of the Wenner's four-point method are in good agreement with the data obtained from the Wenner's four-point method.

  • This paper proposes a method for counting function point using goal and scenario based requirements. Function Point is a software sizing method and widely used as a basis to estimate software development cost. Requirements elicitation and analysis should be performed before function point analysis but function point analysis method doesn't deal with requirements elicitation and analysis. For that reason, Function point extraction method from existing requirements method is needed and if the requirements method has advantage for traceability and elicitation, it is suitable for managing cost. Goal and scenario method is widely used as requirements elicitation and analysis. It has also good traceability. Therefore, this paper discusses a method for extracting function point from requirements text gathered using the goal and scenario based requirements elicitation technique. The proposed method aims to establish and maintain traceability between function point and requirements text. Text based function point extraction guidance rules have been developed. The proposed methodology has been applied to Order Processing System development.
