The deformation and dynamic behavior mechanism of submerged shell-like lattice structures with membranes are in principle of a non-conservative nature as circulatory system under hydrostatic pressure and disturbance forces of various types, existing in a marine environment. This paper deals with a characteristic analysis on quasi-periodic and chaotic behavior of a circular arch under follower forces with small disturbances. The stability region chart of the disturbed equilibrium in an excitation field was calculated numerically. Then, the periodic and chaotic behaviors of a circular arch were investigated by executing the time histories of motion, power spectrum, phase plane portraits and the Poincare section. According to the results of these studies, the state of a dynamic aspect scenario of a circular arch could be shifted from one of quasi-oscillatory motion to one of chaotic motion. Moreover, the correlation dimension of fractal dynamics was calculated corresponding to stochastic behaviors of a circular arch. This research indicates the possibility of making use of the correlation dimension as a stability index.
Effective mixing is an important problem in microfluidics for chemical and biomechanical applications. In this study, the influences of the Reynolds number and the oscillating frequency on mixing characteristics of micro-stirrer are studied in a microchannel with single stirrer. The influence of fluid inertial effects in an active mixer is first discussed. It is found that the stirring effects by stirrer oscillation are promptly attenuated at low Reynolds number, which makes greatly difficult the rapid mixing. As the inertial effects are increased, the chaotic advection is generated and then developed. The mixing phase is finally developed some mushroom shaped structure. And the mixing efficiency is also studied as a function of the oscillating frequency. We found that the mixing efficiency does not always increase with higher oscillating frequency of stirrer. Consequently, we found the functional relation between the optimal frequency of a stirrer and the Reynolds number.

Numerical study on the chaotic stirring of viscous flow in an alternately driven cavity has been performed. Even under the Stokes-flow assumption, the inherent singularity at the corners made the problem not so easily accessible. With some special treatments to the region near the corners, the biharmonic equation was solved numerically by using the fully implicit method. The velocity field was then used in obtaining the trajectories of passive particles for studying the stirring effect. The three tools developed in the field of the nonlinear dynamics and chaos, that are the Poincare sections, the unstable manifolds, and the Lyapunov exponents, were used in analysing the stirring effect. It was shown that the unstable manifolds obtained in this study well fit the experimental results given by the previous investigators. It is predicted that the best stirring can be obtained when the aspect ratio a is near 0.8 and the dimensionless period T is in the range 4.3 - 4.7.

The pitch motion of a generic gravity gradient satellite is investigated in terms of chaos. The Melnikov method is used for detecting the onset of chaotic behavior of the pitch motion of a gravity gradient satellite. The Melnikov method determines the distance between stable and unstable manifolds of a perturbed system. When stable and unstable manifolds transverse on the Poincare section, the resulting motion can be chaotic. The Melnikov analysis indicates that the pitch dynamics of a generic gravity gradient satellite can be chaotic when the orbit eccentricity is small.

In this paper, the fluid flow and stirring in a rectangular tank focussing on the effect of the plate length is studied numerically and experimentally. the flow model and the method of analysis are the same as those reported previously. The stirring effect changes considerably when the plate length is varied. When the plate is short, the friction at the bottom wall reduces the strength of the vortical flow resulting in a lower stirring effect. When the plate is long, the stirring effect is decreased due to the growth of the regular regions near the lower corners. The stirring effect is the best when the plate length is roughly half the width of the container.
In this paper, an integrated chaos analysis system for EEG (ICASE) is designed for the analysis of brain functions based on the chaos theory. Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of EEG such as 3-D attractor, Poincare section, correlation dimension, Lyapunov exponents and power spectrum are extracted by this system. The results show that chaotic attractors which indicate the presence of deterministic, dynamics of complex nature could be identified from a routine EEG recording for normal and pathological activity. This proves that the chaotic analysis of EEG may be an appropriate tool in the classification of brain activity and thus a possible diagnostic tool.

Dynamic characteristics are investigated when a nonlinear system showing periodic and chaotic responses under harmonic excitation is exposed to random perturbation. About two well potential problem, probability of homoclinic bifurcation is estimated using stochastic generalized Meinikov process and quantitive characteristics are investigated by calculation of Lyapunov exponent. Critical excitaion is calculated by various assumptions about Gaussian Melnikov process. To verify the phenomenon graphically Fokker-Planck equation is solved numerically and the original nonlinear equation is numerically simulated. Numerical solution of Fokker-Planck equation is calculated on Poincare section and noise induced chaos is studied by solving the eigenvalue problem of discretized probability density function.
Based on a non-linear model taking into account flexural-torsional couplings, analytical solutions are derived for lateral buckling of simply supported I beams under some representative load cases. A closed form is established for lateral buckling moments. It accounts for bending distribution, load height application and pre-buckling deflections. Coefficients $C_1$ and $C_2$ affected to these parameters are then derived. Regard to well known linear stability solutions, these coefficients are not constant but depend on another coefficient $k_1$ that represents the pre-buckling deflection effects. In numerical simulations, shell elements are used in mesh process. The buckling loads are achieved from solutions of eigenvalue problem and by bifurcations observed on non linear equilibrium paths. It is proved that both the buckling loads derived from linear stability and eigenvalue problem lead to poor results, especially for I sections with large flanges for which the behaviour is predominated by pre-buckling deflection and the coefficient $k_1$ is large. The proposed solutions are in good agreement with numerical bifurcations observed on non linear equilibrium paths.
