  • The culture and society environment plays major role in the development of Fashion and now in the 21st century, interest in Fashion is getting increased along with the rapid progress of advanced media development and information surge. Now it s the time to extend visual efficiency not only transmitting fashion image but also develop a creative product that satisfy the demander s needs. Currently it is very hard to express our subjective Korean "nationalism" in the Fashion since the various expression skill using western fashion illustration are dominant in our society. I have classified two components, fashion illustration and Korean painting in the theoretical circumstance. In fashion illustration circumstance, I examined the concept, usage, expression skill and history referring to historical documents. In Korean painting section, I considered coloring portrait concept, pattern, history, concept, and feature of the four gentlemanly plants. including the basic material of Korean-paper, Writing- Brush, Ink-Stone, Traditional-ink and also the history of itself. I have designed 8 products applying the concept of plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums and bamboos that represent the most important part of the four gentlemanly plants, and also the expression skill of Korean coloring portrait.rait.

  • This study examines, based on the database of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics(ITKC), the garden plants and their symbolism, and the landscape culture recorded in 'Jipkyungjaeyoungsi(the Series of Poems on Gardens Poetry)' in relevance to traditional houses. First, Jipkyungjaeyoungsi had been continuously written since mid-Goryeo dynasty, when it was first brought in, until the late Joseon dynasty. It was mainly enjoyed by the upper class who chose the path of civil servants. 33 pieces of Jaeyoungsi(題詠詩) in 25 books out of a total of 165 books are related to residential gardens. The first person who wrote a poem in relation to this is believed to be Lee GyuBo(1168~1241) in the late Goryeo dynasty. He is believed to be the first person to contribute to the expansion of natural materials and the variation of entertainment in landscape culture with such books as 'Toesikjaepalyoung(退食齋八詠)', 'Gabeunjeungyukyoung(家盆中六詠)'and 'Gapoyukyoung(家圃六詠)'. Second, most of the poems used the names of the guesthouses. Out of the 33 sections, 19(57.5%) used 8 yeong(詠), then it was in the sequence of 4 yeong(詠), 6 yeong, 10 yeong, 14 yeong, 15 yeong, 16 yeong, 36 yeong(詠) and so on. In the poem writing, it appears to break the patterns of Sosangpalkyung(瀟湘八景) type of writings and is differentiated by (1) focusing on the independent title of the scenery, (2) combining the names of the place and landscape, (3) focusing on the name of the landscape. Third, the subtitles were derived from (1) mostly natural landscape focused on nature and garden plants(22 sections, 66.7%), (2) cultural landscape focused on landscape facilities such as guesthouses, ponds and pavilions(3 sections), (3) complex cultural scenery focused on the activities of people in nature(8 sections). Residents enjoy not only their aesthetic preferences and actual view, but the ideation of the scenery. Especially, they display attachment to and preference for vegetables and herbs, which had been neglected. Fourth, the percentage of deciduous tree population(17 species) rated higher(80.9%) compared to the evergreens(4 species). These aspects are similar results with the listed rate in 'Imwonkyungjaeji(林園經濟志)' by Seo YuGu [evergreen 18 species(21.2%) and deciduous trees 67 species(78.8%)] and precedent researches [Byun WooHyuk(1976), Jung DongOh(1977), Lee Sun(2006)]. Fifth, the frequency of the occurrence of garden plants were plum blossoms(14 times), bamboos(14 times), pine trees(11 times), lotus(11 times), chrysanthemum(10 times), willows(5 times), pomegranates(4 times), maple trees(14 times), royal foxglove trees, common crapemyrtle, chestnut trees, peony, plantains, reeds and a cockscombs(2 times). Thus, the frequency were higher with symbolic plants in relations to (1) Confucian norms(pine trees, oriental arbor vitae, plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, bamboos and lotus), (2) living philosophy of sustain-ability(chrysanthemum, willow), (3) the ideology of seclusion and seeking peace of mind(royal foxglove ree, bamboo). Sixth, it was possible to trace plants in the courtyard and outer garden, vegetable and herb garden. Many symbolic plants were introduced in the courtyard, and it became cultural landscape beyond aesthetic taste. In the vegetable and herb garden, vegetables, fruits and medicinal plants are apparently introduced for epigenetic use. The plants that were displayed to be observed and enjoyed were the sweet flag, pomegranate, daphne odora, chrysanthemum, bamboo, lotus and plum blossom. Seventh, it was possible to understand garden culture related to landscaping materials through poetic words such as pavilions, ponds, stream, flower pot, oddly shaped stones, backyard, orchard, herb garden, flower bed, chrysanthemum fence, boating, fishing, passing the glass around, feet bathing, flower blossom, forest of apricot trees, peach blossoms, stroking the pine tree, plum flower blossoming through the snow and frosted chrysanthemum.

  • The present study investigated the anti-atopic effects of mixed extracts from date plum, persimmon, and mulberry leaves (DPME) on atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions in hairless mice. The in vivo results demonstrated that DPME treatment significantly reduced the dermatitis clinical score and epidermal thickness in AD-like skin lesions. Histological analyses showed that DPME treatment strongly inhibited dermal infiltration of inflammatory cells and activity of mast cells in AD-like skin lesions. DPME treatment inhibited production of serum IgE and interluekin (IL)-4 in hairless mice with AD. Moreover, DPME treatment significantly suppressed production of tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ and IL-6 cytokines in phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate plus calcium ionophore A23187-stimulated HMC-1 human mast cells. In addition, DPME treatment reduced production of pro-inflammatory mediators (nitric oxide, prostaglandin E2, $TNF-{\alpha}$, and IL-6) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that the anti-atopic and anti-inflammatory effects of DPME may be involved in the regulation of inflammatory responses, suggesting that DPME may be used as an anti-atopic dermatitis material and natural anti-inflammatory ingredient.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity, total phenolics, flavonoids, and vitamin C contents in peels of 11 commercial fruits commonly consumed in the Republic of Korea. The antioxidant activities were evaluated by ABTS, DPPH radical scavenging methods and reducing power. The peels of plum (Prunus spp.) and golden kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis) exhibited the highest values of antioxidant activity and total phenolics, while the highest level of ascorbic acid was recorded in the peel of citrus fruit (p<0.05). There were positive correlations between the antioxidant activity assessed by both reducing power and ABTS methods and total polyphenol content ($R^2$=0.6356), suggesting that phenolic compounds are the major contributors to these activities. The results indicate that plum and golden kiwifruit peels can be used as natural antioxidant ingredients and in production of functional foods in the Korean diet.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the usage and perception jochung Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 445 living residents in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. When purchasing jochung, respondents answered that they considered both health and taste. Recognition rate scores for jochung were in the order of 'brown rice', 'balloon flower', 'plum', and 'corn'. On the other hand, recognition rate scores for 'purple radish', 'sword bean', and 'sasa quelpaertensis' were very low. Preference and intake levels of jochung were in the order of 'plum', 'corn', 'sorghum', 'strawberry' and 'balloon flower'. On the other hand, preferences for 'purple radish', 'sword bean', and 'Hovenia dulcis' were very low. Reasons for eating jochung as a sweetener were identified as due to 'family, friend, or neighbor' (40.1%) and 'for health' (39.2%), and 54.6% ate it once or twice per week. Consumers showed low preference for different jochung used as sweeteners, and did not exactly recognize the characteristics of various jochung. Furthermore, 70.8% replied "increasing" prospects for jochung consumption. To increase consumption of jochung, there is a need for greater hygiene and safety with regards to jochung products as well as variations and improvements in quality.

  • Stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) are economically important pests of fruit trees in Korea. The aim of the present study was to survey the relative abundance of stink bugs on four stone fruits, maesil (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc), cherry (Prunus avium L.), plum (Prunus salicina Lindl), and peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch), from 2017 to 2019 in the field. Four stink bug species were observed, including Carbula putoni (Jakovlev), Dolycoris baccarum (L.), Halyomorpha halys (Stål), Plautia stali Scott. H. halys was the most abundant (65%), followed by P. stali (26%), C. putoni (7%), and D. baccarum (2%). H. halys was the dominant species in maesil, cherry, and peach fruits, whereas P. stali was the dominant species in plum fruits. Most (81%) of the stink bugs observed were adults, with nymphs accounting for only 19% of the observed specimens. More stink bugs were observed during the late season than during the early season. These finding suggest that control strategies should be developed for the management of H. halys and P. stali at harvest in stone fruit tree orchards in Korea.

  • 'Akihime' plums picked at mature stage (50-70% red coloration of the fruit skin) were stored at $1^{\circ}C$ under air or controlled atmosphere (CA) storage regime as following 3% $O_2$ + 1, 3, 5, and 7% $CO_2$ for 50 days for the purpose of assessing the effect of CA storage on the maintenance of fruit quality and the reduction of chilling injury. Fruits stored under CA storage regime showed reduced respiration as well as ethylene production rates compared to the fruits stored in air. Quality attributes including weight loss, Hunter 'a' values, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, and firmness showed smallest changes in fruits stored under CA conditions except for 3% $O_2$ + 7% $CO_2$. High incidence of physiological disorders including chilling injury, flesh browning, and decay were found in fruits stored under both air and CA of 3% $O_2$ + 7% $CO_2$. In our study, the CA storage regime of 3% $O_2$ + 5% $CO_2$ was found the most effective for maintaining overall fruit qualities of 'Akihime' plums produced in Korea, also delayed the development of chilling injury including lack of juiciness and flesh browning. From the results, storage at 3% $O_2$ + 5% $CO_2$ was selected as an optimal condition of 'Akihime' plum for extending storage life up to 50 days at $1^{\circ}C$.

  • As the elderly population increases, it is becoming important to prevent and treat muscle loss caused by aging or disease. Steroidal androgen in the protein assimilation steroid (AAS) system is mainly used to induce muscle improvement, but it is well known that long-term or excessive doses of AAS result in various side effects, although they are prescribed for various muscle and weight loss treatments. Research is therefore underway to explore natural substances that promote muscle renewal with relatively few side effects. However, despite many studies on the improvement of skeletal muscle and the reduction of muscle disease using natural products, there is still a lack of significant clinical results and mechanism studies. The promotion of muscle regeneration through treatment with natural substances typically involves three mechanisms: positive control of the muscle modulating factor (MRF), activation of the protein synthesis mechanism, and inhibition of the protein breakdown mechanism. A study of plant extracts that are known to have muscle neoplasmic stimulation effects, such as black ginseng, plum, and nutmeg, as well as single substances derived from natural products, such as creatine, catechin, and several fatty acids, is therefore described. We also summarize the mechanisms that have been identified so far through which each of these extracts or single materials facilitates muscle regeneration and the signaling pathways that they mediate.
