  • In this study, pre-postprocessing toolbox is developed to perform elasto-plastic analyze of underground structures with transient ground water flow. This toolbox is composed of three modules. The first is the data input processor for the structural analysis. The preprocessing Is using GUI (Graphic User Interface), which is consist of dialog box, pull down, and short-cut icon, etc. The second is the structural analysis module. The analysis is based on the elasto-plastic finite element method involving additional options such as ground excavation effect, transient ground water flow, and rock bolts behavior. The last is the postprocessing module. The postprocessing is able to verify the result of the structural analysis by the graphical simulation which visualizes the element mesh, the node displacements, the element stress states, the stress contour, the ground water surface, and the rock bolt stresses. Since various options are considered separately in this toolbox, it is easy to modify the module of each processing, and to update other functional modules for the given analysis conditions.

비대칭형 플라스틱 팬 제품 개발 (Development of Asymmetric Plastic Fan Product)

  • The analysis of injection molding process by CAE is widely used in development of plastic products. That comes from the fact that CAE analysis can reduce trial and error based on optimized design. On this study, by use of MOLDFLOW, the causes of product defects were found and solved by trade-off study. CAE analysis includes Flow-Cool-Warpage Analyses and finally a new mold-die design with better product quality was suggested. On injection molding of round-shaped plastic fan, new mold-die system with 4-tunnel gates located on the edge of a fan disc shows better quality rather than pin-point gate located on the center of a disc. That was effective in terms of flow mark removal and flatness improvement of the product.

  • The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a new joining method that was developed at The Welding Institute (TWI) in England in 1991. It applied heating by the rotational friction and material plastic flow. It was developed as a new joining method to solve the problems of epochally in the welding of Al alloys. In the study, 6000series of Alloy composed of Al-Mg-Si, one of the Al alloys that are utilized for shipbuilding and construction, is selected as a specimen and the numerical is executed against the welded zone of FSW. The material used in this study had the unique properties of strength and anti-corrosion, but since the welded joint of this material is easily softened by the welding heat, FSW is executed and the numerical analysis is carried out around the joint. To examine the mechanical behaviors and properties, F.E.M analysis is executed and the developed thermal-elastic-plastic finite analysis are used.

  • Four simulation models of plastic plate heat exchangers are designed and simulated. The flat plate type heat exchanger is designed as the reference model in order to evaluate how much thermal performance increases. The turbulence promoter type heat exchanger is fabricated with cylindrical-type vortex generators and rib-type turbulence promoters. The corrugate type is obtained from the conventional stainless steel compact heat exchangers, which are called the herringbone-type compact heat exchangers. The dimple type heat exchanger has a number of dimples on its surface. In this study, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the plastic plate heat exchanger are investigated using numerical simulation and compared with experimental results. The flows are assumed as a three-dimensional, incompressible and turbulent model. The standard k-$\varepsilon$ model is used as the turbulent flow modeling, the SIMPLE algorithm is used to treat the coupling between pressure and velocity, and first order upwind scheme is used for discretization of momentum, turbulent and energy. The computational analysis and experimental results both show that the friction coefficient and Nu number is highest in the corrugate type.

열전도성 플라스틱을 이용한 21 W급 LED Light Engine의 방열설계 (Thermal Design of 21 W LED Light Engine Using Thermal Conductive Plastic)

  • This study will design the structural optimization of 21 W LED heat sink using the thermal conductive plastic materials. The thermal conductive plastic heat sink is inferior to aluminum heat sinks in thermal properties. This study will solve this problem using formability of thermal conductive plastic heat sink. A heat sink was optimized in terms of the number, and the thickness of fins and the base thickness of the heat sink, using the Heatsinkdesigner software. Also by using SolidWorks Flow simulation and thermal analysis software, the thermal characteristics of the heat sink were analyzed. As the result, the optimized heat sink has 17 fins, which are 1.5 mm thick and a 3.7 mm-thick base. The highest and the lowest temperature were $51.65^{\circ}C$ and $46.24^{\circ}C$ respectively. Based on these results, The thermal conductive plastic heat sink is considered possible to overcome heating problem when designing in complex structure.

A Study on the Flow Field Characteristics of Air Induction System for Reducing the Signal-to-Noise in the MAFS Output

  • This study presents the flow visualization results, velocity and turbulence intensity measurements made within an air filter cover and entry region of a mass air flow sensor (MAFS) which is used in an induction system of 3.8L engine. Flow structure in two air filter cover assemblies were examined. The first was a clear plastic replica of the production cover while the second was a modified clear plastic cover with a geometry configured to reduce fluctuations. High speed flow visualization and laser doppler velocimetry (LDV) systems were used to reveal and analyze the flow field characteristics encountered in the sensor design process under steady flow conditions. A 40-watt copper vapor laser was used as a light source. Its beam is focused down to a sheet of light approximately 1.5mm thick. The light scattered off the particles was recorded by a 16mm high speed rotating prism camera at 5000 frames per second. A comparison of the flow patterns and LDV measurements in the original and modified air filter covers is presented to illustrate the controlling effect of the cover design on the turbulence structure formation near the bypass and on the sensor output signal. In both axial and radial planes of the main passage it was found that the turbulence flow pattern is remarkably influenced by the air filter cover and main passage configuration.

  • 본 논문에서는 터어빈과 콤프레셔 블레이드의 정밀예비현상 및 캠 부품의 제 조에 사용되는 원형소재로부터의 타원형재의 압출에 대한 일반적인 해석방법을 제안할 것이다. 해석결과는 실제 가공경화재인 알루미늄합금(Al2024)의 압출실험을 수행하 여 타당성을 검토하도록 할 것이며 기존의 해석 및 실험결과와도 비교 논의하도록 하 겠다.

  • The steady shear flow properties of six kinds of commercial toothpastes were measured using a concentric cylinder type rheometer. In this paper, the shear rate and temperature dependencies of their flow behavior were investigated and the validity of the Casson and Herschel-Bulkley models was examined. Further, the flow properties over a wide temperature range were quantitatively evaluated by calculating the various material parameters. Main results obtained from this study can be summarized as follows: (1) Toothpastes are plastic fluids with a yield stress and their flow behavior shows shear-thinning characteristics. (2) With increasing temperature, the degree of shear-thinning becomes weaker and the Newtonian flow behavior occurs at a lower shear rate range. (3) The Herschel-Bulkley model is more effective than the Casson model in predicting their flow behavior. (4) As the temperature increases, the yield stress, plastic viscosity and consistency index become smaller, on the contrary, the flow behavior index becomes larger.

다양한 연부조직 재건에서의 대망피판의 유용성 (Usefulness of Omental Flap for Various Soft Tissue Reconstruction)

  • Extensive and complicated defects on the body call for an omnipotent tool for a perfect reconstruction. Flaps derived from the omentum has many advantages over the conventional flaps. From 1999 to 2004, Omental flaps were applied for various soft tissue reconstructions. Among total 20 total 7 cases were for immediate reconstruction, 2 cases for chronic infection, 3 cases for simultaneous reconstruction of two defects, 4 cases for functional joint reconstruction and 4 cases were for flow- through revascularization. Among these cases, 3 cases were operated with minimal incision harvest technique. There were no complete flap failures, partial necrosis of the distal parts were noted on three cases. The omental flap is indicated on a large contaminated defect reconstruction due to its large size, well-vascularized, and malleable properties. The omental flap provides several additional advantages over other flaps, which are; the availability of the one staged simultaneous reconstruction of two defects with one flap, providing gliding function for the joint motion, and a flow-through characteristics with long vascular pedicle. But there are some serious shortcomings, including a long abdominal scar and intraabdominal problems. However, these are rare and can be minimized with our minimal incision technique. Due to its unique characteristics. the omentum is one of the ideal tissues for the reconstruction of the complicated soft tissue defects due to its unique characteristics.
