Various manufacturing technologies, including over-molding and insert-injection molding, are used to produce hybrid plastics and metals. However, there are disadvantages to these technologies, as they require several steps in manufacturing and are limited to what can be reasonably achieved within the complexities of part geometry. This study aims to determine a practical approach for producing metal/plastic hybrid components by combining plastic injection molding and metal die casting to create a new hybrid metal/plastic molding process. The integrated metal/plastic hybrid injection molding process developed in this study uses the proven method of multi-component technology as a basis to combine plastic injection molding with metal die casting into one integrated process. In this study, the electrical conductivity and ampacity were verified to qualify the new process for the production of parts used in electronic devices. The electrical conductivity was measured, contacting both sides of the test sample with constant pressure, and the resistivity was measured using a micro ohmmeter. Also, the specific conductivity was subsequently calculated from the resistivity and contact surface of the conductor path. The ampacity defines the maximum amount of current a conductive path can carry before sustaining immediate or progressive deterioration. The manufactured hybrid multi-components were loaded with increasing currents, while the temperature was recorded with an infrared camera. To compare the measured infrared images, an electro-thermal simulation was conducted using commercial CAE software to predict the maximum temperature of the power loaded parts. Overall, during the injection molding process, it was demonstrated that multifunctional parts can be produced for electric and electronic applications.
Injection Molding is the most effective process for mass production of plastic parts. The injection molding process is composed with several steps such as Filling, Packing, Holding, Cooling, Ejecting. Among them, filling and packing process should be considered carefully to improve accuracy of dimension, surface quality of plastic parts. Usually the quality above-mentioned is managed with weight of part after molding on the field. In this paper, a series of experiment for molding automotive front bumper was conducted with cavitity temperature sensor to optimize switch-over time(V-P switching), hot runner vale gate sequence time during filling and packing step for the purpose of uniform quality, weight at every molding. As a result, it was found that it is effective method to use temperature sensor in injection molding for quality control of plastic molding.
Recently, mobile-phone with camera module has an absolute majority in the released mobile-phones. For this trend, High precision of the plastic subminiature barrel which is the core part is needed significantly because the camera module of mobile-phone must have high performance. Therefore, Structural stability of the injection mold for plastic subminiature barrel has to be guaranteed. In this paper, structural analysis of injection mold for plastic subminiature barrel is performed. Finally, the deformation trend and stability of injection mold core are analyzed.
On this study, injection molding product of rectangular tray structure with thickness 0.25mm and aspect ratio(length/thickness) approximately 150 conducted. Technical aspects were reviewed on mold-die design and injection molding conditions. To have a thin-membraned plastic part, short-shot, shrinkage, twist, whitening and flash problems were considered and resolved. After measuring products, validity of this study and future improvement were discussed.
Injection molding process is one of the most important methods to produce plastic parts with high efficiency and low cost. The objective of this study is to implement the best plastic injection molding process for LED TV speaker frame. Moldflow analysis and simulation of plastic injection molding process were carried out in order to predict optimal modeling operation conditions and then injection molded part was produced various type of resin temperature, filling time and injection pressure variation. the result was that the best injection molding condition is set as 60bar pressure, 2sec filling time and $310^{\circ}C$ degree. The study result would be useful to variety of plastic injection molding process.
The analysis of injection molding process by CAE is widely used in development of plastic products. That comes from the fact that CAE analysis can reduce trial and error based on optimized design. On this study, by use of MOLDFLOW, the causes of product defects were found and solved by trade-off study. CAE analysis includes Flow-Cool-Warpage Analyses and finally a new mold-die design with better product quality was suggested. On injection molding of round-shaped plastic fan, new mold-die system with 4-tunnel gates located on the edge of a fan disc shows better quality rather than pin-point gate located on the center of a disc. That was effective in terms of flow mark removal and flatness improvement of the product.
The water has been the suitable for the cooling medium until now. But the water as cooling medium seem to have the limit for high speed injection. The steam plastic molding injection use the steam as the medium when raise the mold temperature. The weld line has been the major quality problems in a plastic injection parts to be difficult to be solved. These problems in injection-molded plastic parts are difficult to find the reason because these issues are usually in tradeoff realtions with each other. The purpose of this paper is to obtain the optimum injection moulding condition for improving the quality of plastic injection parts and to inquire the productivity improvement with the measured cycle time by steam plastic moluding injection. Based on these numerical results, the guidelines of mould design and injection processing condition were established. As a result, the improvement of quality and the reduction of cycle time was achieved.
The paper presents the development of a cooling circuit design system that automatically creates 3D cooling circuit on a given section plane conforming to design specifications, generates 3D solid model of cooling line segments defined on a 2D sketch plane, and verifies interference of 3D cooling channel with the molding die surface. The system was developed mainly for designing plastic injection molding die of vehicular lamp, which helps the mold designer to rapidly construct cooling circuits but also reduce designer's unintended mistakes by conforming to the dimensional design specifications. It is used by an injection molding die manufacturing company in Korea, and reported approximately 20% reduction of cooling channel design time.
Injection molding is representative process of plastic production. Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the various conditions. In this study, moldflow software was used to analyze the cooling analysis. The results of cooling analysis and testing catapult were compared for plastic products.
Plastic pulleys used for the purpose of power transmission have to very high roundness characteristics. The roundness of plastic pulleys is influenced by many factors. In this study, the effect of molding conditions on the roundness of pulleys was analyzed using a numerical analysis program. To improve the roundness, molding conditions that minimize the amount of deformation of the pulley were studied through an experimental design method. Among the experimental design methods, the Taguchi method was used, and the main molding conditions affecting the deformation of the pulley were the resin temperature and the holding pressure. It was found that the amount of deformation is reduced by about 2.86% when molding with the optimum molding conditions compared to when the optimum molding conditions are not applied.
