The pulsed plasma wire-plate reactor was analyzed on the basis of experiment, EMTP simulation and modelling method. Though the reactor has a non-linear impedance characteristics, we demonstrate that the reactor impedance can be approximately analyzed with the measured initial capacitance and average resistive component of flat zone. Using this modelling method, the influence of the reactor capacitance on the impedance matching between pulse generator and reactor can be investigated. From this, we found that the energy of 95% was delivered form pulse generator to reactor at the ratio of $C_r/C_p\cong 0.3,\; where\; C_p\; is\; pulse\; generator\; capacitance, C_r$ is reactor capacitance.
Tokamak reactor system analysis code was developed at KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) and is used here for the conceptual development of a DEMO reactor. In the system analysis code, prospects of the development of plasma physics and the relevant technology are included in a simple mathematical model, i.e., the overall plant power balance equation and the plasma power balance equation. This system analysis code provides satisfactory results for developing the concept of a DEMO reactor and for identifying the necessary R&D areas, both in the physics and technology areas for the realization of the concept. With this system analysis code, the performance of a DEMO reactor with a limited extension of the plasma physics and technology adopted in the ITER design. The main requirements for the DEMO reactor were selected as: 1) demonstrate tritium self-sufficiency, 2) generate net electricity, and 3) achieve a steady-state operation. It was shown that to access an operational region for higher performance, the main restrictions are presented by the divertor heat load and the steady-state operation requirements.

In this paper, the $CF_4$ decomposition rate and by-product were investigated for a simulated two plasma reactors which are metal particle reactor and spiral wire reactor as function of mixed gases. The $CF_4$ decomposition rate by plasma reactor with metal particle electrode had a gain of 20~25[%] over that by plasma reactor with spiral wire electrode. The $CF_4$ decomposition efficiency increases with increasing applied voltage up to the critical voltage for spark formation. The $CF_4$ decomposition efficiency of metal particle reactor was about 80[%] at AC 24[kV]. The $CF_4$ decomposition rate used $Ar-N_2$ as base gas was the highest among three base gases of $N_2$, $Ar-N_2$, air. The by-products of the $N_2$, $Ar-N_2$ base as were similar, but in case of air base they were different.

In this paper, the effect of magnetic field was measured on NOx(NO+NO2) removal and consumption power for wire-plate plasma reactor with magnetic field applied to electric field vertically. NOx of the simulated diesel engine flue gas were removed by the corona discharge generated by DC, AC and Pulsed voltages in wire-plate reactor. Consumption power increased with discharge voltage. However, when magnetic field was applied to electric field vertically, consumption power slightly decreased. NOx removal rate and arc transition voltage for plasma reactor with magnetic field were higher than those for plasma reactor without magnetic field. Consumption power decreased, however NOx removal significantly increased, when water vapour bubbled by dry air was put into simulated flue gas.

A point plate type nonthermal plasma reactor, with a grounded cylindrical third electrode which closely- encompasses the needle point, have been investigated with an emphasis on the role of the third electrode. It was found that the point plate airgap, with the grounded third electrode, had a switching characteristic on its I V characteristics for negative and positive discharges, which is very different from that of a conventional point plate airgap without a third electrode. The corona discharge and ozone generation characteristics of the plasma reactor with the grounded cylindrical third electrode, such as the corona onset voltage. the breakdown voltage. the corona current. and the amount of output ozone, were influenced significantly by the height of the third electrode. and these characteristics can be controlled by adjusting the height of the third electrode.

A combined process of non-thermal plasma and catalytic technique has been investigated to treat $CH_3$CN gas in the atmosphere. A planar type dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor has been used to generate the non-thermal plasma that produces various chemically active species, such as O, N, OH, $O_3$, ion, electrons, etc. Several different types of the beads. which are Molecular Sieve (MS) 5A, MS 13X, Pt/alumina beads, are packed into the DBD reactor, and have been tested to characterize the effects of adsorption and catalytic process on treating the $CH_3$CN gas in the DBD reactor. The test results showed that the operating power consumption and the amounts of the by-products of the non-thermal plasma process can be reduced by the assistance of the adsorption and catalytic process.

The aim in this study is to develop the combined EGR system with a non-thermal plasma reactor for reducing exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy in turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engines. In this study, the characteristics of soot, CO and $CO_2$ emissions under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with a combined plasma exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The EGR and non-thermal plasma reactor system are used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions, and the non-thermal plasma reactor and turbo intercooler system are used to reduce soot and THC emissions. The plasma system is a flat-to-flat type reactor operated by a plasma power supply. The fuel is sprayed by pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that soot emissions with increasing EGR rate are increased, but are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load. Results also show that CO and $CO_2$ emissions are increased as EGR rate is elevated, and CO emissions are increased, but $CO_2$ emissions are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load.

The aim in this study is to develop the combined EGR system with a non-thermal plasma reactor for reducing exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy in turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engines. At the first step, in this paper, the characteristics of performance and $NO_x{\cdot}THC$ emissions under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with a combined plasma exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The EGR system is used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions, and the non-thermal plasma reactor and turbo intercooler system are used to reduce THC emissions. The plasma system is a flat-to-flat type reactor operated by a plasma power supply. The fuel is sprayed by pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate with EGR is increased, but the fuel economy is better than that of mechanical injection type diesel engine as compared with the same output. Results show that $NO_x$ emissions are decreased, but THC emissions are increased, as the EGR rate is elevated. $NO_x$ and THC emissions are also slightly decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated. Thus one can conclude that the influence of EGR in $NO_x$ and THC emissions is larger than that of the non-thermal plasma reactor, but THC emissions are greatly influenced by the non-thermal plasma reactor as the EGR rate is elevated.
For the field application of dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor, a multi-plasma reactor was investigated for the inactivation of microorganisms in sewage. We also considered the possibility of degradation of non-biodegradable matter ($UV_{254}$) and total organic carbon (TOC) in sewage. The multi-plasma reactor in this study was divided into high voltage neon transformers, gas supply unit and three plasma modules (consist of discharge, ground electrode and quartz dielectric tube). The experimental results showed that the inactivation of microorganisms with treated water type ranked in the following order: distilled water > synthetic sewage effluent >> real sewage effluent. The dissolved various components in the real sewage effluent highly influenced the performance of the inactivation of microorganisms. After continuous plasma treatment for 10 min at 180 V, residual microorganisms appeared below 2 log and $UV_{254}$ absorbance (showing a non-biodegradable substance in water) and TOC removal rate were 27.5% and 8.5%, respectively. Therefore, when the sewage effluent is treated with plasma, it can be expected the inactivation of microorganisms and additional improvement of water quality. It was observed that the $NH_4{^+}$-N and $PO{_4}^{3-}$-P concentrations of sewage was kept at the constant plasma discharging for 30 min. On the other hand, $NO_3{^-}$-N concentration was increased with proceeding of the plasma discharge.
