  • A new low-cost energy-recovery circuit (ERC) for a plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. It has two auxiliary switches clamped on a half sustain voltage, and inductor currents are built up before the PDP is charged and -discharged. Therefore, it features a low cost, fully charged/discharged PDP, zero voltage switching (ZVS), low electromagnetic interference (EMI), low current stress, no severe voltage notch, and high energy-recovery capability.

  • A new low-cost asymmetric current-fed energy-recovery circuit (ERC) for a plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. LC resonant circuit biased by $V_s/2$ and composed of single switch is used as ERC on both sides of the PDP, slow discharging and fast charging times can be employed, and inductor currents are built up before the PDP is charged and discharged. Therefore, it features a low cost, fully charged/discharged PDP, zero voltage switching (ZVS), low electromagnetic interference (EMI), low current stress, no severe voltage notch, and high energy-recovery capability.

  • Numerical simulation is one of the most useful tools to study gas discharge phenomena that occur in alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP) cell. Most PDP cell simulations have been performed for two-dimensional cell, is cross-section along the address electrode. We developed a three-dimensional PDP simulator and applied it to a T-shaped electrode cell in order to show the effects of sustain electrode shape that cannot be included in two-dimensional simulation. The dependence of power consumption on electrode shape and area in the simulation showed the same trend as experiment.

  • In AC Plasma Display Panel(PDP), serious problems are low radiation brightness and very high discharge voltage. To solve these problems, it is necessary to obtain optimal frequency of drive waveform and optimal gas mixing ratio. This paper presents firing voltage and sustain voltage as frequency of waveform and gas mixing ratio, and proposes optimal frequency of drive waveform and optimal gas mixing ratio.

  • A new high efficiency active clamp forward converter suitable for the sustaining power module(SPM) of a plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. It has a wide zero voltage switching (ZVS) range without inserting additional resonant inductor. Also, it features simpler structure, lower cost, less mass, and no effective duty loss. Furthermore, voltages across all rectifier diodes are clamped on the output voltage, which results in a higher efficiency.

  • Comparative study on a low cost sustaining driver with single and dual path energy recovery circuits for plasma display panels (PDPs) is shown in this paper. The cost of PDPs has been still high and about half of the cost has been occupied by driving circuit. A simple sustaining driver is proposed to reduce the cost and size of driving circuit. The proposed driver has small number of devices and reactive components and there are two methods for charging and discharging PDPs such as single and dual path energy recovery circuits. A comparative research on two-types of energy recovery path is practiced to evaluate performance. As a result, the dual energy recovery path circuit has low power consumption, low surge current and high performance. To verify those results, experiment will be shown with 42-inch HD panel.

  • A novel current-fed energy-recovery sustaining driver (CFERSD) for a PDP is proposed in this paper. Its main idea is to recover the energy stored in the PDP or to inject the input source energy to the PDP by using the current source built-up in the energy recovery inductor. This method provides zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) of all main power switches, the reduction of EMI, and more improved operational voltage margins with the aid of the discharge current compensation. In addition, since the current flowing through the energy recovery inductor can compensate the plasma discharge current flowing through the conducting power switches, the current stress through all main power switches can be considerably reduced. Furthermore, it features a low conduction loss and fast transient time. Operations, features and design considerations are presented and verified experimentally on a 1020${\times}$l06mm sized PDP, 50kHz-switching frequency, and sustaining voltage 140V based prototype.

  • A high efficiency ZVS PWM asymmetrical half bridge converter for a plasma display panel (PDP) sustaining power modules is proposed in this paper. To achieve the ZVS of power switches for the wide load range, a small additional inductor L/sub 1kg/, which also acts as an output filter inductor, is serially inserted into the transformer's primary side. At that point, to solve the problem of ringing in the secondary rectifier caused by L/sub 1kg/, the proposed circuit employs a structure without the output filter inductor, which helps the voltages across rectifier diodes to be clamped at the output voltage. Therefore, no dissipative RC (resistor capacitor) snubber for rectifier diodes is needed and a high efficiency as well as low noise output voltage can be realized. In addition, since it has no large output inductor filter, the asymmetrical half bridge converter features a simpler structure, lower cost, less mass, and lighter weight. In addition, since all energy stored in L/sub 1kg/ is transferred to the output side, the circulating energy problem can be effectively solved. The operational principle, theoretical analysis, and design considerations are presented. To confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a 425W, 385Vdc/170Vdc prototype are presented.

  • In the last several centuries, humankind have been experienced the material abundance with a development of technical civilization and being industrialized quickly. During the process of this, environmental pollutant have occurred naturally so that humankind have more interests for environment pollutant. Air pollution caused by exhaust from a car is very harmful for human. Most of exhaust from a gasoline engine are $CO_x(CO+CO_2),\;NO_x(NO+NO_2)$, and THC(Total Hydrocarbon). The method to remove these kinds of noxious gases are so many thing such as the three catalysts, $NO_x$ catalysts, Filter and so on. However, although air pollution caused by exhaust from motorcycle have also occurred very much, there is no regulation for motorcycle. In this paper, we studied to remove $CO_x(CO+CO_2),\;NO_x(NO+NO_2)$, THC exhaust from a motorcycle using non-thermal plasma In the result, $NO_x(NO+NO_2)$ concentration was decreased approximately 70% and THC(Total Hydrocarbon) was removed about 40%.
