The occurrence and abundance of protozoa at advanced wastewater treatment plant were compared with operating parameters and effluent quality using statistical procedures. In correlation analysis between the distribution of protozoa and operating parameters, the distribution of protozoa was showed the operating condition of plant. Regression analysis between the distribution of protozoa and effluent quality up to 7 days, showed the R-square values of most regression equation were more than 0.6 and constant was higher than slope and could indicate effluent quality from sampling day to 7 days. Once enough data concerning protozoa, operating parameters and effluent has been gathered, the operator has a valuable tool for predicting plant performance and near-future effluent quality based on microscopic examination. Plant operator manipulates operating conditions if he knows near-future data of effluent is deteriorating. Perhaps more importantly it can be used to actually control the plant to adjust the operating conditions to obtain the protozoal populations that have been shown to provide the best effluent quality.
Palynological characters such as pollen grain polar axis length (PL), pollen equatorial diameter (ED), colpus length, colpus width, and P/E ratio of six species of Quercus subgenus Lepidobalanus Endl. from Korea were studied. A significant interspecific variation, unequal distances between the species, and various degree of intraspecific variations were found. The taxonomic value of the pollen morphology parameters measured was found to vary according to species. These results suggest a possible relationship between parameters measured and ploidy level of the Quercus species studied.
Plant cell culture provides a viable alternative over whole plant cultivation for the production of secondary metabolites. In order to successfully cultivate the plant cells at large scale, several engineering parameters such as, cell aggregation, mixing, aeration, and shear sensitivity are taken into account for selection of a suitable bioreactor. The media ingredients, their concentrations and the environmental factors are optimized for maximal synthesis of a desired metabolite. Increased productivity in a bioreactor can be achieved by selection of a proper cultivation strategy (batch, fed-batch, two-stage etc.), feeding of metabolic precursors and extraction of intracellular metabolites. Proper understanding and rigorous analysis of these parameters would pave the way towards the successful commercialization of plant cell bioprocesses.
Statistical analysis technique was applied to operating parameters and removal efficiency data sets obtained from advanced wastewater treatment plant during 1 year. Through factor analysis three factors derived varimax rotation were selected each plant. Three components explained 96%, 87% of the total variance of the process, respectively. The components on $A_2O$ Plant were identified in the following order : 1) Shortening the SRT during high-flow period, 2) Keeping biomass high on winter 3) factor was related to DO. On DNR plant, we defined them as follows: factor 1, Prolonged the SRT during high-flow period; factor 2 was related to sludge return; factor 3, Influent BOD during low-DO period. This technique was believed to assist operators in identifying priorities to improve operation efficiency.
In vitro true digestibility of cup-plant (Silphium perfoliatum L.) is higher than other alternative forages and comparative to alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) even at the high neutral detergent fiber (NDF) concentration. This study was conducted to determine whether the digestion kinetic parameters of cup-plant could explain high in vitro true digestibility of cup-plant at the several NDF levels. Cup-plant and alfalfa were both collected in Arlington and Lancaster, Wisconsin to meet the NDF content within 40 to 50% range. The collected samples were incubated with rumen juice to investigate the digestion kinetics at 3, 6, 9, 14, 20, 28, 36, 48, and 72 h. Kinetics was estimated by the model $R=D_0\;e-k(t-L)+U$ where R is residue remaining at time t, and $D_0$ is digestible fraction, k is digestion rate constant, L is discrete lag time, and U is indigestible fraction. Parameters of the model were estimated by the direct nonlinear least squares (DNLS) method. Digestion rate and potential extent of digestion were not statistically different in either forage. However, alfalfa had shorter lag time (p<0.05). The indigestible fraction increased with maturation in alfalfa and in cup-plant (p<0.05). The ratio of indigestible fraction to acid detergent lignin (ADL) was higher in cup-plant than in alfalfa (p<0.05). From the results, alfalfa is probably digested more rapidly than cup-plant, however, cup-plant maintains higher digestibility with maturation due to a relatively slower increase of indigestible fraction in NDF.
In this paper, an adaptive mechanism based on immune algorithm is designed and it is applied to the driving control of the autonomous guided vehicle(AGV). When the immune algorithm is applied to the PID controller, there exists the case that the plant is damaged by the abrupt change of PID parameters since the parameters are adjusted almost randomly. To solve this problem, a neural network used to model the plant and the parameter tuning of the model is performed by the immune algorithm. After the PID parameters are determined through this off-line manner, these parameters are then applied to the plant for the on-line control using immune adaptive algorithm. Moreover, even though the neural network model may not be accurate enough initially, the weighting parameters are adjusted more accurately through the on-line fine tuning. The experiment for the control of steering and speed of AGV is performed. The results show that the proposed controller provides better performances than other conventional controllers.

This study is to calibrate the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) water quality of SS (Suspended Solid), T-P (Total Phosphorus), and T-N (Total Nitrogen) by focusing on 2014~2015 drought periods and identify the important parameters. For Gongdo watershed ($366.5km^2$), the SWAT was calibrated for 2 cases of 2002~2006 normal year focusing calibration and 2014~2015 drought focusing calibration respectively. The parameters of N_UPDIS (Nitrogen uptake distribution parameter) and CMN (Rate factor for humus mineralization of active organic nutrients) played important roles for T-N calibration during drought periods. The SWAT SS, T-N, and T-P average $R^2$ (Coefficient of determination) results by focusing on 2014~2015 drought periods calibration showed 0.71, 0.65 and 0.62 while 2002~2006 normal year focusing calibration showed 0.63, 0.58 and 0.50 respectively. Also SWAT SS, T-N, and T-P model efficiency NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency) results by focusing on drought period (2014~2015) calibrated showed 0.76, 0.77, 0.87 respectively. Even though the SS, T-P parameters were unchanged during the calibration, the SS and T-P results were improved by the hydrological parameters (SCS-CN, SOL_K, SLSOIL) during the drought periods. The SWAT water quality calibration needs to be considered for the movement of SS and nutrients transport especially focusing on the drought characteristics.
An adaptive control algorithm for a plant with unmodelled dynamics is proposed. The upper bounds of the output due to the unmodelled dynamics and measurement noise is assumed to be known. Linear programming is used in estimating the bounds of plant parameters. Projection type algorithm is used in estimating the plant parameter with these bounds. This algorithm is nearly the same as those proposed by Kreisselmeier or Middleton except that the bounds are computed by linear programming. The stability of the proposed algorithm Can be proved in nearly the same way as that of Middleton. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm gives better parameter convergence and smaller overshoot in the plant output than the algorithm without computing the bounds of plant parameters by linear programming.
A lot of recent researches have shown that a Pseudo Random Binary Signal is a quite effective test signal to measure the impulse response of a plant. Generally speaking, however, such a response itself is not satisfactory to determine the appropriate control parameters or control inputs. Here, the author intends to estimate the unknown parameters of the First Order Plant with Dead Time by means of correlation method using M-sequence signal. The time constant T and the dead time L of the plant are eatimated with one tracking loop by automatically adjusting delay time .tau. of M-sequence signal according to variations of T and L. In this paper, a three level M-sequence signal is used as a test signal in order to avoid troublesome operations to calculate partial derivatives of a given performance index with respect to the parameters which are usually required in the Model Method. Several experiments with analogue computer using low pass filters as averaging circuits showed good results as expected.

An adaptive control problem for a plant with unmodelled dynamics is studied. The upper bounds of the output due to the unmodelled dynamics and measurement noise is assumed to be known. This problem was studied by Middleton et al. They used a modified form of the least square method in estimating the plant paramaters. In this paper, the bounds of the parameters are estimated by linear programming and the parameters are estimated by the projetion type algorithm incorporating the bounds of the parameters. The stability of the proposed adaptive control system can be proved in nearly the same way as the proof of Middleton. The performance of the proposed method is found to be much better than the method of Midlleton's with respect to the parameter convergence and plant output in computer simulations.
