  • Plant project is a complex project that consists of civil engineering, building, mechanical and electronic works. The schedule management is one of important factors in plant project because the construction duration of the project is very short comparing with the other construction projects. Specially, 4D CAD system needs to visualize construction schedule information in those complex projects. This study suggests methodologies for improving 4D CAD functions by considering those project characteristics. To develop a plant 4D CAD system, this study includes to develop new functions by analyzing actual schedule information from the plant construction sites.

  • The representative research institutes in North Korea are the Academy of Science and the laboratories of major universities. The National Academy of Science consists of headquarters, Academy of Medicinal Science, Academy of Forestry Science, and Academy of Agricultural Science. Under the authority of the National Academy of Science, Central Information Agency for Science and Technology (CIAST) has built up a database system integrating all the science technology data to provide scientific and technological information. The major universities of North Korea include Kim Il-sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Pyongyang Agricultural College, and Wonsan Agricultural College, and an agricultural college is situated in each province. Out of 3,860 plant species in North Korea, 158 species which amounts to approximately 4% of the total are rare and endangered, and deforestation is under a critical situation. The Oriental Medicine (Koryo Medicine) has been well developed using medicinal plants, and practical researches on biotic pesticide are largely conducted as an alternative to tackle the shortage of farming materials. Hereafter, a South-North joint research on the amount of plant resources and the methods of its conservation is needed and the North Korean research areas of biotic pesticide are worth adopting to the South Korean eco-friendly organic agriculture.

  • This paper is proposed non-contact plant growth measurement system using infrared sensor based on USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies. The proposed system has used noncontact sensors to reduce any potential damage when it measures the growth of the plant. In this system, plant growth parameters such as diameter, cross-sectional area and thickening form are measured in real-time non-contact method. The measured data are transmitted to remote server by using sensor network technologies, stored and analyzed at the server, and the analyzed data are finally provided for users. In this paper, the proposed plant growth measurement system has been designed and implemented using non-contact infrared sensor based measurement methods and devices, and its performances have been verified by actual measurement experiments at the fields.

  • There are so many kind of a control program that is applied in various process fields such as power generation plant, water treatment plant, incinerator plant, chemical plant, cement plant etc.. Because an engineer in field edits and changes and debugs and tests properly control programs using text-based control language, it is very hard for the him to apply to plant. Therefore, this research implemented a graphical tool for control program builder that is applicable to various plants and usable engineers having a little knowledge for control language. I wish to run more efficiently precision process control offering function that can see visual expression about flow of control signal and intermediate output values of control program displayed in screen using this implemented function block builder.

  • In this study, a study is conducted on a monitoring system that can control the environment of plants using sensors in conjunction with the LED light system and the plant growth control system. To verify the performance of the developed plant growth system, an experiment was conducted on the characteristics of energy efficiency, data transmission rate, and light volume control. The experiment resulted in a satisfactory result by controlling more than 80% energy efficiency, 1Mb/sec wireless communication speed, and 5 levels of optical control. The proposed system can be applied to LED plant facilities and will contribute to the automation of agriculture by organizing an automated system for production efficiency and labor cost reduction for future commercialization.

  • Plant disease is one of the most irritating problems for agriculture growers. Thus, timely detection of plant diseases is of high importance to practical value, and corresponding measures can be taken at the early stage of plant diseases. Therefore, numerous researchers have made unremitting efforts in plant disease identification. However, this problem was not solved effectively until the development of artificial intelligence and big data technologies, especially the wide application of deep learning models in different fields. Since the symptoms of plant diseases mainly appear visually on leaves, computer vision and machine learning technologies are effective and rapid methods for identifying various kinds of plant diseases. As one of the fruits with the highest nutritional value, apple production directly affects the quality of life, and it is important to prevent disease intrusion in advance for yield and taste. In this study, an improved deep residual network is proposed for apple leaf disease identification in a novel way, a global residual connection is added to the original residual network, and the local residual connection architecture is optimized. Including that 1,977 apple leaf disease images with three categories that are collected in this study, experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved 98.74% top-1 accuracy on the test set, outperforming the existing state-of-the-art models in apple leaf disease identification tasks, and proving the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Most of the plant models based on L-system or particle systems have focused on visual shape of plant. However, the interaction between the plant and its environment in virtual environment will make the plant more natural in diverse situations so that users will be immersed in system. To this end we structure the plant object organized in an ontology, introduce calculating method of plant growth rate based on juvenile energy.

  • Recent development of recombinant DNA techniques such as gene cloning and DNA sequencing has led to understanding of genetic information coded on plant genes and their application to crop improvements. Nuclear genes so far isolated and characterized at the molecular level from various plants are those involved mainly in photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation, seed development and defensive responses to environmental stresses. Most of plant genes contain intervening sequences (introns) flanked with GT and AG, as it typical of animal genes. The 5' flanking regions of plant gene revealed the presence of promoter elements such as TATAAA and CCAAT, which have been identified at animal genes to be involved in transcrip- tion initiation. The 3' untranslated regions include a sequence similar to AATAAA whcih functions as a polyadenylation signal in other eukaryotic genes. Furthermore, enhancer-type sequences were found at the 5' flanking regions of various plant genes. This indicates that the structure of plant genes is very similar to animal genes and mechanisms governing the synthesis and processing of mRNAs may be identical in higher eukaryotes. However, genes expression studies involving transformation revealed their differ ences within plants and between plant and animal systems.

  • VR (Virtual reality) technologies have given engineers the ability to design, test, and evaluate engineering systems in a virtual environment. The virtual plant is the highlight of the application of the VR technology to plant engineering. Plant design, maintenance, control, management, operation are integrated in the virtual plant. The VR monitoring system including the concept of the virtual plant is developed to replace a current control room that has number of gages and warning lamps in two-dimensional panels which shows the operating status of a plant. The operating status of the plant is displayed in the VR monitoring system through the realistic computer graphics. Sophisticated, realistic and prompt control becomes possible. The VR monitoring system consists of advanced visualization, walk-through simulation and navigation. In the virtual environment, a user can navigate and interact with each component of a plant. In addition, the user can access the information by just clicking interesting component. The VR monitoring system is operated with various modules, such as (1) virtual plant constructed with Graphic Management System (GMS), (2) Touch & Tell System, and (3) Equipment DB System of Part. In order to confirm the usefulness of the VR monitoring system, a pilot gas plant which is currently being used for plant operator training is taken as application. The end of the paper gives an outlook on the future work and a brief conclusion.
