The objective of this study is to investigate the suitable design for a domestic Circulating water pump(CWP), which is used in cooling-water intakes for the unit 3 and 4 of Yeonggwang nuclear power plant. All the simulations are performed, using CFD method with a commercial code STAR-CCM+ version 3.02. After modeling a present design of the pump, the flow around the rotating blade was calculated by using quasi-static method and sliding mesh method with the almost same condition as an actual state. Based on fundamental simulations with various depth of sea water, the reference pressure for the boundary condition of the present study was decided. To verify the reliability of the calculation results, the suction flow rate of the data was compared with that of the experimental data. As a result of this comparison, it is confirmed that two results are fairly consistent. For the improvement of the suction flow rate, computational analysis was done by changing a flow channel and blade shapes. It is shown that the suction flow rate of the new pump was improved.

Dimethyl ether (DME) is a new clean fuel as an environmentally-being energy resources. DME has similar characteristics to those of LPG and can be substituted Diesel fuel. KOGAS has investigated and developed new innovative DME synthesis process from synthesis gas with KOGAS's own technologies. KOGAS had finished the construction of 10ton/day DME demonstration plant in 2008, we have established the basic design of commercial plant which can produce 3,000ton/day DME. Specifically, an economic model for a commercial DME project will be presented. It accounts for all the major cost factors that are considered in a commercial scale project as the model input for performing cash flow analysis, after which key economic indicators are produced including the internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV). Sensitivity analysis is performed to identify dominant cost factors to the project economics and quantify their impact. The inputs to the economic analysis will be based on representative cost factors from the commercial-scale design of KOGAS' direct DME process supplemented by literature data. Case study results will be presented based on recent commercialization projects.

A detailed geometrical model of a Krško reactor core was developed using a Monte Carlo neutron transport code MCNP. The main goal of developing an MCNP core model is for it to be used in future research focused on ex-core calculations. A script called McCord was developed to generate MCNP input for an arbitrary fuel cycle configuration from the diffusion based core design package CORD-2, taking advantage of already available material and temperature data obtained in the nuclear core design process. The core model was used to calculate 3D power density profile inside the core. The applicability of the calculated power density distributions was tested by comparison to the CORD-2 calculations, which is regularly used for the nuclear core design calculation verification of the Krško core. For the hot zero power and hot full power states differences between MCNP and CORD-2 in the radial power density profile were <3%. When studying axial power density profiles the differences in axial offset were less than 2.3% for hot full power condition. To further confirm the applicability of the developed model, the measurements with in-core neutron detectors were compared to the calculations, where differences of 5% were observed.

A small hydro-power plant using the seawater used as the cooling (circulated) water and discharged is under construction. The bigger size of the small hydro-power plant, the better in order to maximize the efficiency and the electric power. The optimal size, however, should be determined in the constraints of the channel un-disturbed range. The water level change should be checked in detail based on the hydraulic behaviour. In this study, the FLOW3D model, three-dimensional flow model, is setup using the flow measurement data in the effluent discharge channel and the flow pattern changes due to the small hydro-power plant construction are predicted by the model. The plant construction makes the increasing of the water level, and the water level in the upstream of the channel weir is increased 65 cm from 4.32 m to 4.97 m, in the condition of the design discharge $156m^3/s$ and the movable weir height of the hydro-power plant 3.8 m.

The APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400MW) nuclear power plant is a large-scale national infrastructure facility with a total project cost of 8.6 trillion won and a project period of 10 years or more. The total project area is about 2.17 million square meters and consists of more than 20 buildings and structures. And the total number of drawings required for construction is about 65,000. In order to design such a large facility, it is important to establish a design standard that reflects the design intent and can increase conformity between documents (drawings). To this end, a design bases document (DBD) reflecting the design bases that extracted in regulatory requirements (e.g. 10CFR50, Korean Law, etc.) is created. However, although the design bases are important concepts that are a big framework for the whole design of the nuclear power plant, they are managed in 2-dimensional by the experts in each field fragmentarily. Therefore, in order to improve the usability of building information, we developed BIM(Building Information Model) based 3-dimensional design bases management system. For this purpose, the concept of design bases information layer (DBIL) was introduced. Through the simulation of developed system, design bases attribute and element data extraction for each DBIL was confirmed, and walls, floors, doors, and penetrations with DBIL were successfully extracted.

The purpose of this research is to examine the user experience design that effectively exhibits botanical information through a virtual habitat built with 3D modeling and scanning data for the conservatory at Seoul Botanic Park. Seoul Botanic Park's conservatory contains environmental and ecological information on the wide spectrum of diverse plants under twelve cities all over the world. However, the exhibition method, which focuses on maps and information boards, has limitations in delivering diverse plant and habitat information to visitors. Virtual and augmented reality can be used as an effective tool for educating and experiencing the contents of various plant species as it can convey the ecological and environmental conditions of the habitat and local culture at diverse levels. This study experimented with constructing virtual habitats using the Unreal Engine and effectively communicating various botanical information through the interaction. With the introduction of a virtual habitat, we intend to enhance the user experience of park visitors and ultimately explore the possibility of using virtual and augmented reality to convey multi-layered environmental and ecological information of landscape.
Process analysis with ASM3 (Activated Sludge Model3) was performed to offer basic data for the optimization of aerated biofilter (ABF) process design and operation. This study was focused on the simulation of the nitrification reaction in ABF which was a part of the advanced nutrient treatment process using bio-adsorption. The ABF process has been developed for the removal of suspended solids and nitrification reaction in sewage. A GPS-X (General Purpose Simualtor-X) was used for the sensitivity analysis and operation assessment. Sensitivity of ASM3 parameters on ABF was analysed and 4 major parameters ($Y_A$, $k_{sto}$, ${\mu}_A$, $K_{A,HN}$) were determined by dynamic simulation using 70 days data from pilot plant operation. The optimized values were 0.14 for $Y_A$, 3.5/d for $k_{sto}$, 2.7/d for ${\mu}_A$ and 1.1 mg/L for $K_{A,HN}$, respectively. Simulation with optimized parameter values were conducted and TN, $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ concentrations were estimated and compared with measured data at the range of 10 min to 4 hrs of hydraulic retention time (HRT). The simulated results showed that optimized parameter values could represent the characteristics of ABF process. Especially, the ABF showed relatively high nitrification rate (60%) under very short HRT of 10 min. As a consequence, the ABF was thought to be successfully used in the site which having high variation of influent loading rate.

The present paper considers the conceptual design of floating wave-offshore wind hybrid power generation system. The worldwide demand for ocean renewable energy is increasing rapidly. Wave and offshore wind energy have been attractive among the various ocean renewable energy sources, and the site to generate electricity from wave and offshore wind accords well together. This means that a hybrid power generation system, which uses wave and offshore wind energy simultaneously has many advantages and several systems have been already developed in Western Europe. A R&D project for a 10 MW class floating wave-offshore wind hybrid power generation system has been also launched in Korea. A semi-submersible platform, which has four vertical columns at each corner of the platform to be connected with horizontal pontoons, was designed for this system considering arrangements of multiple wind turbines and wave energy converters. A mooring system and power cable were also designed based on the metocean data of installation site. In the present paper, those results are presented, and the difficulties and design method in the design of hybrid power generation system are presented.
